Health authority interim CEO calls for further integration of AI into health care
Social Sharing Nova Scotia needs to merge artificial intelligence into the health-care system by way of a research centre, says the interim CEO of the Nova Scotia Health Authority. At a panel discussion on Friday at the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, Karen Oldfield said AI has been introduced to the health-care system in small amounts, but more needs to be done. "We have to lay this foundation," Oldfield said. "But to get to the predictive analytics, to wellness, to precision medicine, we have to have this." Oldfield says that the next logical step for the province is to develop a centre of excellence, meaning a hub dedicated to overseeing and researching AI. Oldfield expanded on this, saying AI would improve clinical efficiency and administration. Oldfield said AI could be used to determine a population or community with a higher likelihood of contracting diseases, like certain kinds of cancer. "If we can predict, then we can get ahead of it," said Oldfield. "That's really where most provinces and most countries want to get.... That's where we need to head." Oldfield says the development of such a centre would be dependent on people more than money. "We need the researchers that are able to use that data …to develop their algorithms that can lead us to predictive analytics and precision medicine," said Oldfield. The proposed AI centre for excellence is only in its early stages. Oldfield says she has had conversations about a centre with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and various members of the federal government.

Buildots secures $45m funding to enhance AI-driven platform
Buildots, an AI-powered construction management company, has completed a $45m funding round. The investment, led by Israeli venture capital fund Qumra Capital, included contributions from OG Venture Partners, TLV Partners, Poalim Equity, Future Energy Ventures, and Viola Growth, bringing Buildots' total funding to $166m. The company expects to expand its North American presence fourfold by the end of this year. The funding will support the expansion of Buildots' platform capabilities, which utilise advanced AI and computer vision technology to provide predictive analytics. These tools are stated to help construction teams reduce delays by up to 50% and unlock significant cost savings. Boaz Dinte, managing general partner at Qumra Capital, will join the Buildots board as part of the collaboration. This investment is expected to accelerate the expansion of the company's platform to cover more stages of the construction life cycle, with Buildots aiming to use historical data to benchmark and enhance project performance. Buildots CEO and co-founder Roy Danon said: "This investment is about transforming how construction is managed worldwide. "Achieving operational excellence will take time and require a major industry shift, but the potential impact is enormous. We're already seeing a shift from project-by-project tech adoption to long-term enterprise agreements, with multiple seven-figure deals signed so far this year. "As firms move from reactive to proactive management, the industry stands to unlock billions in cost savings and operational gains. That's the future we're building." Buildots stated that its client base includes general contractors and project owners such as The Turner Corporation, STO Building Group, JE Dunn Construction Group, Samet, Mortenson, Ledcor, and Pomerleau in North America. In the UK, the company claims to have established agreements with contractors such as Sir Robert McAlpine and has implemented with Wates, Kier, Multiplex, and IHP. Its European collaborations include VINCI Construction, NCC, Hochtief, GCC, and Bouygues Construction. The surge in construction of data centres, driven by advancements in AI, has also become a significant growth driver for Buildots. The company stated that Intel, a client and an investor, employs Buildots' technology to enhance operational efficiency in its global semiconductor fabrication programme. In December 2024, it was reported that The Novus, set to be the tallest residential building in North Carolina's Durham region, was also utilising Buildots' AI-driven construction technology through a partnership with Samet. "Buildots secures $45m funding to enhance AI-driven platform" was originally created and published by World Construction Network, a GlobalData owned brand.
