Saskatoon teen dancer chases dreams to Hollywood

WATCH: A Saskatoon teen is getting the opportunity of her dreams to pursue a dancing career on the biggest stages. A Saskatoon teen is getting the opportunity of her dreams to pursue a career dancing on the biggest stages. She's been invited to a two-week intensive camp to prepare her for the industry, but it's expensive, so she's raising money to pay for her trip. When Sky Ouellet posted a video dancing to a Tate McRae song on social media, she didn't think much of it. But it caught the eye of a respected choreographer and director based in Los Angeles. 'A couple of months after I posted it, this girl named Milena Fortunato commented on it,' said Ouellet. 'And then I just started following her. We started DMing each other, and then she invited me to join her program called the Business of Dance.' While she enjoys most genres of dance, Ouellet prefers hip hop. 'I kind of just fell in love with the style of hip hop,' Ouellet told CTV News. 'I trained in various other styles like ballet and contemporary. Hip hop is more loose in the body and also [includes] different types of styles like popping, locking, and breaking. Contemporary is more of a sad type of music; you flow more in your body and do more tricks. Hip hop is more of an upbeat music and more intense.' On top of her regular high school studies, Ouellet has been taking online courses to learn about the business side of dance in Hollywood. And her performance got noticed there too. 'She saw how good I was doing, and she gave me a $500 scholarship to the Hollywood Summer Tour,' she said. While in Los Angeles, Ouellet will be training with industry pros and studios, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the entertainment industry. 'I will have photo shoots, red carpet walks, music videos, and talent agency showcases,' she said. 'I'll be on TV; hopefully, it will take me far in my career.' Saskatoon teen dancer chases dreams to Hollywood (John Flatters/CTV News) In an industry with as many lows as it has highs, Sky's parents were hesitant at first. But they see her passion and the opportunity that the Hollywood Summer Tour offers their daughter. 'Something that we're really looking forward to is the agencies that are going to be there,' said Garett Ouellet. 'And she's going to be able to have seminars, information seminars with them. They're going to walk her through the ins and outs of the industry, and then she'll be able to showcase her talents in front of them.' While it's the opportunity of a lifetime, it's also an expensive trip in an already expensive sport. So, to help pay for the trip, her family is raising funds in a variety of ways. 'Our GoFundMe is our central fundraising place where you can go and donate,' said Ouellet. 'But we are working hard in other areas, like our bottle drives. It's been huge, so we've been going out most nights in our neighborhood. And it's been a small unit, just the five of us in a minivan.' Ouellet says SARCAN locations in Saskatoon will accept donations at the Drop and Go counter. 'The Drop and Go is huge; it's Sky's Hollywood Tour.' The family is also holding a Facebook auction, and Sky will be teaching a hip hop class in July to raise funds. She'll be bringing back something to raise money for the Children's Hospital too. 'We're having a supporter shirt done up,' said Ouellet. 'It's going to be autographed with all the artists and the special guests down there, and then it's going to be brought back and auctioned off for the Saskatoon Children's Hospital.' And while she has plans of performing at Madison Square Garden or the O2 Arena, Sky knows it's going to take a lot of effort. 'You don't just get famous overnight,' she said. 'You need to work hard for it, and you need to put in the time and effort and have the patience for it. Because if you don't have any of those three, then you will just not go anywhere, because there's no such thing as being famous overnight.' The Hollywood Summer Tour begins on July 22.

Lil Wayne Reaches A New Career Low With His Latest Album

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter VI debuts at No. 5 on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart but lands as ... More his lowest-peaking U.K. album on multiple other rankings. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 09: Lil Wayne performs onstage during the 2025 BET Awards at Peacock Theater on June 09, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo byfor BET) Lil Wayne remains one of the biggest names in hip-hop, even if he doesn't always hit it big with new projects. The rapper's latest album Tha Carter VI earns a lackluster debut on several charts in the United Kingdom this week. The collection wasn't preceded by any major singles, and it seems that Wayne's name alone wasn't enough to propel it toward a strong starting position on every tally. In fact, the sixth installment in his Tha Carter series now stands as the hip-hop superstar's lowest-charting title on a number of rosters. Tha Carter VI debuts on seven lists in the U.K. this week, and it ranks as Wayne's lowest-peaking effort on about half of them. The project lands its least impressive start on the Official Albums Streaming chart, where it settles in second-to-last place, at No. 99. Wayne has earned three placements on the streaming-only tally in the past, with Tha Carter V hitting No. 1 and Funeral spending one week at No. 43 back in 2020 when it was new – so his latest effort really pales in comparison. Tha Carter VI also marks Wayne's lowest peak on both the Official Albums chart — the main ranking of the most consumed projects in the country — and the Official Albums Sales list. It starts at No. 77 on the former, sadly falling short of the No. 61 high point that Funeral reached in February 2020. Wayne doubles his total number of appearances on the ranking of the bestselling releases in the U.K. as Tha Carter VI opens at No. 53. That's a far cry from the No. 25 peak that the fifth installment in the series managed in 2018. It's not all bad news for Wayne this week in the U.K., though. Tha Carter VI earns the rapper his first win on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, where it starts at No. 28. He also opens inside the top 10 on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart, scoring his seventh appearance inside that region as Tha Carter VI kicks off its time at No. 5.

Lil Wayne Earns His First Hit On One Chart As His New Album Debuts

Lil Wayne has been charting hit albums around the world for decades. He got his start as a teenager, becoming a superstar in the rap world at a very young age. The hip-hop powerhouse has continued to work for many years and remains hugely prolific, even if he has spaced out his past few releases by several years. After nearly half a decade, his new project Tha Carter VI arrives on a multitude of tallies across the Atlantic. In the United Kingdom, the title underperforms in some respects while also earning the Grammy winner his first placement on one important ranking. Tha Carter VI debuts at No. 28 on the latest edition of the Official Vinyl Albums chart. Amazingly, Wayne scores his first appearance ever on the list of the bestselling vinyl titles in the country. While he has released projects on wax in the past, it appears that none of them sold well enough in a single tracking period to make a home on this roster. The Official Vinyl Albums chart in the U.K. is packed this week with several exciting new releases. While Tha Carter VI starts at No. 28, Wayne earns the fifteenth loftiest debut at the moment. The top 10 is crowded with eight launches, including projects from Pulp, Addison Rae, Marina, and Turnstile, among others. Tha Carter VI earns Wayne one of his loftiest starts this week on the U.K. rankings on the Official Vinyl Albums list. The new project reaches a total of seven tallies, and it opens inside the top 40 on about half of them. The sixth installment in Wayne's Tha Carter series opens highest on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart. It manages a top 10 beginning on that tally, kicking off its time in fifth place. The arrival gives Wayne his seventh top 10. The full-length is also new to the Official Album Downloads chart, where it starts at No. 32. Tha Carter VI doesn't perform quite as well on several other rosters, including those dedicated to pure purchases, streaming activity, and the all-encompassing Official Albums chart. The title misses the top 40 on all of them and even brings Wayne to a new career low on a handful of those rankings.
