Gyokeres to Arsenal takes new twist and Man City chief could play decisive role
Viktor Gyokeres is doing all he can to push through a move to Arsenal despite interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United but it appears that Manchester City could also have a big say A leaked voice note from Manchester City chief Hugo Viana could finally push through Viktor Gyokeres ' 'dream' move to Arsenal. The Sporting Lisbon star is right at the top of the Gunners' transfer shopping list. Mikel Arteta 's side have already lodged a bid worth €55m (£47m) plus a potential further €10m (£8.5m) but that was rejected by Sporting. And since then, there has practically been silence from North London, with Arsenal's pursuit being put on ice amid interest in alternative forward Benjamin Sesko. The same cannot be said of Gyokeres' camp and Sporting Lisbon, however. The striker reportedly threatened to go on strike to force through an exit after believing that Sporting had changed the terms of his departure, while he also turned down clear-the-air talks with his current employers. But it now appears that Gyokers' agent would be willing to leak private talks with ex-Sporting and current Man City chief Hugo Viana to facilitate an exit. According to Portuguese outlet Record, Gyokores' agent Hasan Çetinkaya has evidence that backs up his side of the story. He reportedly has a voice note from Viana agreeing to sell the striker for €60m plus €10m in add-ons (£51m plus £8.5m), following a meeting that was held on September 19 last year. Sporting president Federico Varandas has already given his take on the talks between Viana, Gyokeres and Cetinkaya. Speaking earlier this month, he said: "The agent spoke to us to add some clauses. Hugo Viana, as he always did, and very well, managed the relationship with the agents. This relational space is established with the sports director. "One of the agent's biggest concerns was whether we would demand the termination clause. Hugo Viana negotiated with the agents over several meetings until the agent demanded the presence of the president. "At this meeting, which included the president, the agent and Viana, Gyokeres was not present. He wanted to guarantee certain things. And what was agreed? That Sporting would not demand a release clause now. For one reason: he was going to be 27 years old and no player leaves Portugal at 27 for 100 or 90 million euros. Where do you think Gyokeres will go? Share your thoughts in the comments below "In that same meeting, the agent wanted to anchor the exit to a value. I said this sentence: 'It's not worth us setting a value because I don't know what will happen in a year's time. I don't know if it will be 40, 60 or 80. What I can guarantee is that I will not demand 100 million euros. From then on, I never spoke to the agent again, I never spoke to the player about departures or values. "Now I see the agent in the press releasing information. I want to make one thing clear: Sporting has common sense and keeps its word. Gyokeres scored 63 goals and 10 assists. Fantastic performance. Certainly one of the best players to have ever stepped onto Portuguese turf. And Sporting will not demand the clause. "Now blackmail and insults, Sporting will not accept. One thing is certain: Sporting will not accept 60 million plus 10. As of today, Sporting has not received any proposal for Gyokeres." Record's report further details that Gyokeres is willing to wait for what is his 'dream' move to Arsenal. He currently remains on holiday as the transfer saga continues. Ruben Amorim breaks silence after axing Alejandro Garnacho on final day
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been asked about the future of Alejandro Garnacho after leaving the winger out of his squad to face Aston Villa in the Premier League Ruben Amorim has claimed Alejandro Garnacho has not appeared for Manchester United for the final time - despite missing out on the Red Devils clash against Aston Villa on the final day of the season. It has been suggested that the winger is on his way out of the club after a furious outburst following the Europa League final. Mirror Football understands that Amorim has told Garnacho that he does not feature in his plans for next season and has told players he will be in the hotseat for the outset of 2025/26. The Argentina international has three years left on his contract at Old Trafford but was linked with moves to Chelsea and Napoli earlier this season, and could offer a profitable player to offload as United make every player available for sale. Garnacho has struggled to cement his place in Amorim's plans since the head coach's arrival and was dropped along with Marcus Rashford for the Manchester derby in December. The winger fought his way back into contention but could not earn a place in the starting lineup against Tottenham in Bilbao. The fallout from that decision appears to have seen Amorim make his mind up over Garnacho's future. Though, ahead of Aston Villa, the United boss kept his cards close to his chest. Asked if Garnacho had already made his final outing for the Red Devils, Amorim replied: "No, Garnacho is a Manchester United player who is not in the squad today. But he continues to be a Manchester United player." The United boss then confirmed that the 20-year-old will make the post-season trip to Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. Amorim will lead his side in fixtures against ASEAN All-Stars and Hong Kong in the next seven days. "Yes," the ex-Sporting coach said. "Everybody is going because we have to meet our fans and we have to give something to our fans on the other side of the world." Speaking after United's defeat to Tottenham, Garnacho made no secret of his frustration with the club's season and also his lack of involvment in the Europa League final. The youngster appeared to suggest his future could lie away from the club. 'It's hard for everyone," he said. 'The season was s***, both now losing the final tonight, and in the league, where we didn't beat anyone, that's the truth. "Up until the final, I've played every round, and today to play 20 minutes… I don't know. I'm going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens after.' Ruben Amorim threatened to quit job after TWO GAMES as Man Utd boss offers to walk away ‘without compensation'
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ruben Amorim offered to quit with no pay-off if the board and fans decide his time is up. Amorim, 40, made that sensational statement shortly after United's heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final, which ended the club's only hope of Champions League qualification. 2 Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim offered to quit twice 2 Amorim also previously offered to quit Sporting Lisbon and Casa Pia after two games Join SUN CLUB for the Man Utd Files every Thursday plus in-depth coverage and exclusives from Old Trafford According to transfer insider Guillem Balague, the Portuguese tactician offered to walk away TWICE during his brief six-month spell at Old Trafford if the club felt he wasn't the right man for the job. Balague insists this is not a "plea for attention" but instead a "genuine offer" as he "simply doesn't want to be in the way". Amorim did the same when he was in charge of two other teams during his seven-year managerial career. The first time took place way back in 2018 during his first ever coaching job at Casa Pia. The Man Utd head coach lost his first two matches in charge of the Portuguese outfit, who were then playing in the third tier, and promised he would quit if he lost the third with his pride hurt. But that was when Amorim first adopted his signature 3-4-2-1 formation and Casa Pia's fortunes immediately changed as he remained unbeaten at the club. The second time took place in his third year at Sporting Lisbon back in 2023 when he could only manage a fourth-place league finish. Amorim held showdown talks with then Sporting director Hugo Viana and told him he wanted to leave because he felt his project had failed and that people no longer believed in him. Patrice Evra begs Man Utd to avoid huge transfer 'mistake' this summer
Patrice Evra says Manchester United would be making a huge 'mistake' if they allowed Bruno Fernandes to leave for the riches of the Saudi Pro League this summer. Fernandes, 30, has once again been United's shining light in an otherwise miserable Premier League campaign, with the club set to finish the season on their lowest-ever points total under Ruben Amorim. Though United find themselves stranded down in 16th place, Fernandes has still managed to rack up eight goals and nine assists while wearing the captain's armband. The talismanic attacking midfielder has also been a revelation in the Europa League, registering seven goals and four assists to help book his side a place in this year's final against Tottenham. While Fernandes is tied into a contract at Old Trafford until 2027, widespread reports suggest the Portugal international is being targeted by Al-Hilal for a lucrative summer transfer move. The Saudi outfit are prepared to offer Fernandes eye-watering wages of £65million-a-year to wrap up a deal for the ex-Sporting man before next month's Club World Cup. However, Ruben Amorim has repeatedly pour cold water on the rumours, insisting he will be doing everything in his power to keep hold of 'one of the best players in the world'. According to Evra, Fernandes should be at the front and centre of Amorim's plans if United are serious about building a 'competitive' squad for the future. 'What he's looking for next season is to have a competitive team. We need more defenders, we need a proper striker, maybe some midfielders to support Bruno,' the former United left-back told Sky Sports. 'I heard in Saudi they offered a lot of money to get Bruno and I think it would be a mistake to let him go. 'People talk about his age, 30. No! He's the most important player in the team. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'I think if Bruno wasn't there, maybe we wouldn't be in the final of the Europa League.' When put to Evra that United may even have been relegated without Fernandes, the Frenchman replied: 'Yeah, I'm not afraid and ashamed to say that. 'This could have been possible, but now we are this final. 'Make sure next year that we get the right players to be competitive because we have to forget this season.' Evra continues to be impressed by Amorim's personality and spirit, despite branding United's season as a whole a 'disaster'. 'It's a disaster, it's not a great season. Amorim knows that, I had a meeting with him and he's not happy,' the five-time Premier League winner added. 'But I love his humility, he admits things. You remember what happened with Rashford? He said, 'Guys, I couldn't get the best out of Rashford', so I love his honesty. 'I love the personality but, of course, the results are really bad this season.' Evra is anticipating an extremely tough contest for United in the Europa League final given Tottenham have come out on top in all three of the sides' meetings this season. 'We've got, I would say, the last chance to win the Europa League, but it's against Tottenham and they have beaten us three times this year. It won't be an easy game,' he went on. More Trending 'If you want to attract the top players, you need to be playing in the Champions League, especially a club like Manchester United. 'It's definitely the biggest game for Amorim and his players this season. 'United can have a tough season, even with Erik ten Hag, but we still win trophies and there's not many teams that can do that. 'That's why this is the biggest chance, the biggest opportunity. Please guys, make it happen.' Who will win the Europa League? For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
