Asda thief sat on man and kissed him in car park before stealing gold chain

A driver told how a brazen thief sat on him in an Asda store car park and repeatedly kissed him while stealing his gold chain. The crook, described as a middle-aged woman, approached George Lovatt as he waited in his car in a disabled bay at the Minworth store in Sutton Coldfield at around 12.30pm on Monday, June 16. At first the woman and her younger accomplice were asking about blue badges and asking for money, he said. George, from Coleshill, told BirminghamLive: 'At first, I thought it was a joke. 'I drove to Asda with my wife and daughter. It was that hot I let the women go into the store. 'It was red hot on the driver's side so I moved to the passenger side. 'I sat out of the car and I was approached by a middle-aged woman and a younger one. 'They had a sheet with them with signatures and the blue badge sign and they were asking for money.' The 84-year-old continued: 'Then the older woman climbed over me. At first I thought somebody had set me up. 'She was kissing me around the neck and on the lips. I thought she was a bit familiar. I pushed her away and she got out of the car. 'I phoned my daughter to tell them what happened just before 12.30pm. They thought I was having them on. 'When I got home I noticed my gold chain was gone. We tried to get Asda security and then phoned 999 and was told to call 101.' 'I only said to her the other day, 'I wonder how much that would be worth'. 'Fortunately I usually have a chain on my hand, but that was still on the dresser and I hadn't worn it. 'These women are obviously preying on people in blue badge areas. Apparently, it has happened at a Tesco too.' What made it worse was the climbing on top of me and kissing me. 'Anybody walking past the car would have thought she was making love to me. A police officer said they had a special team looking into it and had pictures from Asda." Man, 21, charged with armed carjacking after fall from Gardiner Expressway, police say

Toronto police say a 21-year-old man has been charged in an armed carjacking, after he fell from the Gardiner Expressway on Monday night while allegedly fleeing from officers. The man was arrested at the scene, suffered serious injuries in the fall and was taken to hospital by paramedics. He has been charged with 10 offences and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday morning. Three other suspects in the incident, which involved two stolen vehicles, a BMW X5 and a Rolls Royce, are still on the loose, Toronto police said in a news release on Wednesday. The Monday night incident shut down the eastern Gardiner, not far from the Don Valley juncture, for hours. Ontario's Special investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the incident. Incident began at Finch and Yonge, police say Police said the incident began when they received a call around 9:35 p.m. Monday about a carjacking in the area of Finch Avenue E. and Yonge Street. Police allege that a driver parked and got out of a vehicle while three male suspects in a stolen BMW X5 stopped nearby. Two males then got out of the BMW X5 and demanded the driver's keys. After a struggle with the driver, the suspects fled the scene in their own vehicle. Less than two hours later, shortly after 11 p.m., police received another call about a carjacking in the area of the Shops of Don Mills near Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue E. Police allege a driver parked their vehicle, a Rolls Royce, in a parking lot when four male suspects in the stolen BMW X5 stopped nearby. Police said the three suspects got out of the stolen BMW X5, pulled out a handgun and demanded the keys. Then the three suspects drove away in the Rolls Royce with the BMW in tandem. Officers from police's hold up squad tracked the stolen vehicles to the Gardiner with the help of officers from 32 and 33 divisions, major crime units, the canine unit, emergency task force and York Regional Police's Air2 helicopter. The vehicles were travelling eastbound. Police recover stolen Rolls Royce, BMW X5 According to the SIU, police put a roadblock up further west on the Gardiner, which led to a suspect in the BMW stopping and running away from police. Moments later, the SIU said the suspect fell from the Gardiner onto Lake Shore Boulevard E. below. Toronto paramedics said they were called to lower Jarvis Street around 11:50 p.m. and took a man to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police said he was taken into custody after a "high-risk takedown." The stolen Rolls Royce, meanwhile, smashed through the police barricade and fled the area. It was later recovered by police. The stolen BMW was also recovered, police said.

Toronto police charge carjacking suspect who fell off elevated portion of Gardiner during ‘high-risk takedown'

Video footage captured on Tuesday morning shows the aftermath of the police pursuit on the Gardiner Expressway. (Sebastian Wick/ Submitted) Toronto police have charged a 21-year-old man in connection with a carjacking that ended in the suspect falling 17 metres from the elevated portion of the Gardiner Expressway during a 'high-risk' takedown Monday night. It began in the area of Finch Avenue East and Yonge Street, where police received a carjacking call just after 9:30 p.m. As a driver exited their parked vehicle, police said three men in a stolen BMW X5 stopped nearby. Two suspects got out and demanded the driver's keys, police said. A struggle ensued and, in the end, the suspects fled without taking the victim's vehicle. More than an hour later, just after 11 p.m., officers got another carjacking call near Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East. This time, four suspects in a stolen BMW X5 pulled up beside a Rolls Royce in a mall parking lot, police said. Three suspects exited the SUV and allegedly brandished a handgun as they demanded the keys for the Rolls Royce. Police said the three suspects were able to steal the Rolls Royce, driving away in tandem with the BMW. Several units responded, including York Regional Police's Air Support Unit, and the suspects were tracked travelling east on the Gardiner Expressway. Officers executed a 'high-risk takedown' and were able to apprehend the driver of the stolen BMW, police said, adding that officers also recovered stolen property inside the vehicle. Before the BMW driver was arrested, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU)—which is investigating police's response during the incident—said he ran away from police and fell off the Gardiner and onto Lake Shore Boulevard below. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette said during a news conference on Tuesday that there is 'no early indication' the officers had any physical contact with the man during the interaction. 'The SIU really is looking at the circumstances that led to that (injury),' Denette said. Three investigators and a forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. Meanwhile, police said the other suspects in the Rolls Royce smashed through the barricade and fled. Officers later recovered the vehicle, but did not find the suspects. In a news release on Wednesday, the suspect in custody was identified as 21-year-old Javed Husnain. He has been charged with robbery with violence, disguise with intent, robbery with a firearm, disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, theft of a motor vehicle involving violence, dangerous operation of conveyance, flight while pursued by peace officer, possession of proceeds of crime, possession of device for the purpose of committing theft and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime. The charges have not been tested in court. Police have not released descriptions of the three outstanding suspects. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call them at 416-808-7350 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477). With files from Codi Wilson
