Jun. 19—A Decatur man is being charged with several counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied building for allegedly shooting at apartments and vehicles after someone confronted him for attempting to break into a car, according to the Decatur Police Department. On Wednesday at 4:40 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Courtney Drive Southwest for several reports of gunshots. When they arrived, the caller told them he saw a man and woman breaking into a maroon Toyota Camry, according to a police affidavit. "After confronting the subjects, the male fired several gunshots in the caller's direction," the affidavit said. "The rounds struck at least three unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot as well as three occupied apartments. The male then fled the scene on a bicycle." Police said officers located the suspects nearby and identified them as Joshua Louis Cunningham, 22, and Janae Tamayia Matthews, 26. Cunningham was charged with unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, three counts of shooting into an occupied building and three counts of shooting into an unoccupied vehicle. He remained in the Morgan County Jail on Thursday in lieu of a $17,500 bond. Matthews was charged with unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, according to police, and was released from the Morgan County Jail after posting a $2,500 bond. Police said additional charges are expected for both suspects. — or 256-340-2442.

A suspect is captured on surveillance video breaking into a home in this image handed out by the Kelowna RCMP. Charges have been laid against a Kelowna resident accused of breaking into a home earlier this month, Mounties announced Friday. Around 6:15 a.m. on June 1, a man was caught on surveillance camera breaking into a home in the 600 block of Okanagan Boulevard, according to police. When the suspect was arrested for the incident, he was allegedly in possession of an e-bike that was reportedly stolen in another break-and-enter, from a garage in the 800 block of Fuller Avenue. Online court records indicate the arrest happened the day after the break-in. Adam James Hillner, 44, now faces charges of breaking and entering and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He is not in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for June 12, according to the records. The Kelowna RCMP asked residents to report any incidents of theft by calling 250-762-3300.

A Harnett County couple were recently charged with breaking into a southwest Harnett County Walmart. Michael Brian Lewis, 30, and Casey Ann Fox, 23, were arrested May 27, according to a Facebook post by Harnett Sheriff Wayne Coats. Both were charged with breaking and entering, larceny and conspiracy, all felonies. Lewis' bond was set at $20,000, while Fox's bond was set at $8,000. According to their arrest warrants, they allegedly broke into the Walmart at 2800 NC 24-87, south of the Carolina Lakes Country Club, and stole $116 in food and other items. Lewis allegedly conspired with Fox in the crimes, according to eCourts. Lewis also has a pending felony drug possession charge stemming from Sept. 15, 2024, and Fox has pending misdemeanor charges for second-degree trespass and damage to property stemming from Oct. 10, 2022. Lewis listed an address at 93 Scooter Lane in southwest Harnett County, and Fox listed an address at 2025 Raven Rock Road, just south of Raven Rock State Park.

Two suspects sought after a Franklin County deputy pursuit, crash in Knightdale, officials say

KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (WNCN) — A chase in Franklin County resulted in a single-vehicle crash in Knightdale involving two suspects accused of breaking and entering into a home early Saturday morning, deputies say. A Franklin County deputy told CBS 17 at the scene that a deputy saw two people trying to break into a home. The suspects ran from deputies, resulting in a vehicle pursuit, which led into eastern Wake County. The deputy went on to say that the suspects, who were driving a Kia SUV, crashed into an embankment on Clifton Road and K Held Road in Knightdale. The suspects then ran from the scene, prompting the deputy to call more units. Along with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the Knightdale Police Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is on the scene to assist in the suspect search. As of Saturday morning, no injuries have been reported as a result of this incident and the suspects are still at 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. A 49-year-old man who police say broke into teenage girl's home in northern Manitoba has been charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement. Thompson RCMP went to a home on Ashberry Place on Tuesday around 1:15 a.m. to investigate a report of an assault. Officers were told a teen girl had fled to a neighbour's house and a man she said sexually assaulted her was still at her home, RCMP said in a news release Thursday. The man was arrested at the home, police said. Police believe the man, who the girl knew, broke into her house while she was asleep and sexually assaulted her. The girl, who was alone at home when the man broke in, escaped without physical injuries, police said. The man has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, forcible confinement, invitation to sexual touching and breaking and entering.
