James Gunn Is Confident That New Superman ‘Will Survive' The Snyderverse Storm
Last Updated: Zack Snyder fans on Reddit have been trying to hurt James Gunn's Superman movie by sharing spoilers and posting bad reviews online. The DC Universe is about to get a fresh start with the new Superman movie releasing in less than a month. Many fans are excited to see James Gunn 's version of the iconic hero. But not everyone is happy. Fans of Zack Snyder's DC films, known as the SnyderVerse, are upset because this new movie will reset the story they love. A group on Reddit linked to Snyder fans has been trying to hurt the film by sharing spoilers and posting bad reviews online. Their goal is to protest the reboot of the DC Universe by Gunn and Peter Safran. When the director heard about the plan to hurt the movie, he didn't seem bothered. Replying to a fan on Threads, Gunn wrote, 'lol I think we'll survive. I'm not sure the eight people that listen to that guy (I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it's a guy) are going to impact the course of events." In an interview with Rolling Stone, James Gunn was told that some people are not supporting him because they prefer the older DC movies made by Zack Snyder. The filmmaker replied, 'I don't mind it. I think it's good. I think you don't wanna have everybody root for you. And I have an actor who reads everything online. I won't say who it is, but he'll read this article and he'll know who it is. It's one of the top five in Superman. And this actor gets so upset over things that people say." 'I said, 'First of all, you realise that the trailer came out and [reaction] was 97, 98 per cent positive. These people help us because you don't want everything to seem 100 per cent positive. It's all right to have an opposing force every once in a while. Some of the things get ridiculous. I just know that every time something comes out, it doesn't matter how positively received, there's gonna be something that is of great controversy. It was a great controversy that the sun caused Superman pain," Gunn added. Superman, scheduled to release on July 11, stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell. Toxic SnyderVerse Fans Prompt James Gunn To Respond Over 'Superman' Boycott
The DC Universe will be fully kicked off with the release of James Gunn's Superman . The new wave of franchise films and shows will take over from the failed attempt at a franchise prior, which started off with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel . Now with a toxic group of SnyderVerse fans attempting to boycott James Gunn's Superman , Gunn has issued his own response. Snyder fans have had varying levels of success with their attempts to restore Zack Snyder's vision for the DC franchise. Fans were able to convince Warner Bros. to allow Zack Snyder the opportunity to finish his own cut of Justice League . Further attempts failed, however, including their desire to have David Ayer's original Suicide Squad cut released or their movement to have Zack Snyder create all-new Justice League sequels. Now, some Snyder fans are attempting to simply ruin the fun for everyone, with a boycott being placed to ruin the success of James Gunn's Superman . While the film is paving the way to be a behemoth at the box office, some fans are eager to disrupt its chances at being a success, with one fan on Reddit having shared the following message that has since been deleted via CBM: 'Fight for our Snyderverse on the imposter Superman release day. Here's what we can do to make a difference 1. Post spoilers everywhere. People are less likely to see or enjoy the movie if it's already spoiled 2. Leave bad rating on review sites. We know for sure gunbots will post fake positive reviews so we must let people know the truth and balance the bias out with realistic scores. 3. Reserve tickets online but don't complete the purchase. By selecting and reserving tickets, it gets taken out of the pool for a period of time which means this has a chance of stopping gunbots from buying tickets Gun fired the first shot and killed the Snyderverse and here is our chance to take the fight back to him.' While some fans are acknowledging the toxic behavior and apologizing on behalf of the Zack Snyder fanbase, and others are worried that it could have an impact on Superman , Gunn doesn't seem to have any worries. In fact, he made a response on Threads to note that 'we'll survive.' 'lol I think we'll survive. I'm not sure the eight people that listen to that guy (I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it's a guy) are going to impact the course of events.' James Gunn's Superman will be hitting theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the highly-anticipated blockbuster as we have them.

James Gunn reacts to Zack Snyder fans trying to spoil Superman's box office: ‘It's all right to have an opposing force'
James Gunn's Superman with David Corenswet in the titular role is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. The filmmaker has now addressed the online chatter that has been built up by Zack Snyder fans trying to negatively impact the film's box office performance. Speaking to Rolling Stone, James said that it is okay to have 'an opposing force every once in a while.' (Also read: James Gunn confirms Superman runtime; dismisses claims Warner Bros. asked him to make it shorter) During the interaction, Gunn reacted to these plans and said, 'I'm trying to think of how to say this best. I don't mind it. I think it's good. I think you don't wanna have everybody root for you. And I have an actor who reads everything online. I won't say who it is, but he'll read this article, and he'll know who it is. It's one of the top five in Superman. And this actor gets so upset over things that people say. I said, 'First of all, you realize that the trailer came out and [reaction] was 97, 98 percent positive. These people help us, because you don't want everything to seem 100 percent positive.'' He went on to add, 'It's all right to have an opposing force every once in a while. Some of the things get ridiculous — I just know that every time something comes out, it doesn't matter how positively received, there's gonna be something that is of great controversy. It was great controversy that the sun caused Superman pain.' For the unversed, James Gunn's film will be a reboot of the character and the start of a new DC Universe, separate from the DCEU, where Henry Cavill played Superman under Zack Snyder's direction. Superman is set for release on July 11.

Christopher Nolan got the tonal balance exactly right on Batman Begins
It's been 20 years since Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins first hit theaters, and in that time, the superhero movie has evolved dramatically. The entire Marvel Cinematic Universe came after Batman Begins, as did Ben Affleck's version of Batman. Given all of that new history, you might think that Batman Begins would look a bit quaint by modern standards, the same way that Tim Burton's Batman remains an interesting movie as a new generation was indoctrinated by Nolan. What's more, Nolan's Batman movies have developed a reputation as the trilogy that proved that you could take superheroes seriously. They spawned an entire generation of fans who would get upset when it felt like the characters they loved weren't being treated with the kind of weight they deserved. That's basically the entire project of Zack Snyder's DC Extended Universe, which is now about to be wiped off the map by yet another version of DC. Recommended Videos When you actually go back and watch Batman Begins, what you'll realize is that Nolan's gift was not turning the knob marked 'seriousness' all the way to 10. Instead, it was his gift for blending serious, earnest ideas with the more cartoonish aspects of the story. Batman Begins is not a perfect movie, but it's indicative of all the things Nolan seems to intuitively get about making a comic book movie. Nolan understands what comic book movies should be Batman Begins starts the way nearly every Batman movie does. Bruce's parents die, and Bruce discovers that he has a fear of bats. Then, the second half of the movie is Batman's origin story. We see him try to avenge his parents, fail, and ultimately travel the world to acquire the training necessary to become the caped crusader. All the while, we get a sense of Gotham as an almost comically corrupt city run by Carmine Falcone, a crime boss of mythical proportions. This is not the gothic funhouse that Burton's Gotham could sometimes feel like, but crucially, it's also not just, say, a particularly bad part of New York City. In creating his version of Gotham, Nolan is heightening its criminality and its smokiness for effect. He does the same with Bruce's journey, recognizing almost intuitively that there's no real logical way to explain why a billionaire would decide to dress up like a bat to solve crime. Nolan understands the fundamental tension at the heart of his story. He can make a movie that feels grounded in its own rules, but not one that feels like it exists in anything resembling objective reality. So, he gives us a version that feels like a compromise, one that seems to internally cohere even if it doesn't always conform to our understanding of reality. He cast the movie (almost) perfectly Of course, it helps that Nolan had the credibility and the skill to cast exactly the right people for every major role. This movie cemented Christian Bale as a star, and his version of Batman is a man who dons the cowl because he feels like he has to. He's surrounded by total pros, from Michael Caine's perfect Alfred to Liam Neeson's impeccable villain. Cillian Murphy, a longtime Nolan collaborator, is excellent as Scarecrow but is also another example of the way this movie is less grounded than people might remember. Neeson's villainous performance feels fairly natural and grounded, even if his plan to destroy Gotham is a little bit silly. By contrast, Murphy's scarecrow is characterized by exaggerated mannerisms. Don't get me wrong, it's a performance that totally works for the character he's been given, but it's also one that probably wouldn't work in a movie that felt a little more grounded or serious. Gary Oldman is an actor who can go big, but he's doing muted and grounded work as a young Commissioner Gordon. The movie's only casting misstep — one that's been discussed ever since the movie's release — is Katie Holmes's Rachel. Even so, it's not so disastrous as to destroy the movie or its sense of reality. It's just the kind of performance that never fully gels with Nolan's slick aesthetic. In fairness, Nolan has never been a director who was particularly good with his female characters. Batman Begins is a reminder that these movies should feel like their source material For all the credit Nolan gets for making Batman Begins into something serious, the movie itself is an almost perfect combination of silly and serious. It's a movie that, crucially, understands how Batman can tackle meaty, philosophical questions without ditching all the things that make the character fit for a comic book. We live in an era dominated by superheroes, but one where fewer filmmakers than you might expect understand how to strike the balance between serious ideas and the vibes and aesthetics of your typical comic book. A great comic book movie should feel like its source material, and that doesn't have to detract from the ideas it's wrestling with. Comic books are fun and serious; the movies that adapt them should be as well.

When James Gunn took advice from Zack Snyder for the right 'Superman' costume
Director James Gunn revealed that he consulted with the legendary filmmaker Zack Snyder over whether or not to add red trunks to the new Superman costume. Snyder's Man of Steel famously featured a Superman costume sans trunks for Henry Cavill. The director helmed two more movies with Cavill's Superman, 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017's Justice League. Now the DC Comics character is being rebooted by Gunn, and those red trunks have been a fan fixation since the first photos of actor David Corenswet in-character leaked online, reported Deadline. In an interview with Fandango, Gunn revealed he asked Snyder for advice on whether or not to give Superman his iconic red trunks. "... I talked to Zack Snyder, who was like, 'I tried a billion different versions with the trunks, and at the end of the day, I tried it, but I just couldn't get there.' And I was feeling exactly the same way. Theoretically, I liked the idea of trunks because it's the Superman I grew up with," Gunn was quoted as saying by Variety. As per the outlet, Gunn originally wasn't going to include them in the new costume until actor David Corenswet convinced him. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for Superman, ahead of the highly anticipated film's theatrical release on July 11. Featuring Corenswet as the titular hero, the trailer offers fans a closer look at the action-packed journey of the beloved superhero as he learns to wield his immense powers. In this latest DC Studios installment, Corenswet brings to life the classic character of Superman, who arrives on Earth from the distant planet Krypton. The narrative delves deep into his internal struggles, exploring his efforts to balance his extraordinary abilities while trying to live as a seemingly ordinary journalist, Clark Kent.
