Milan fall short of Bayer Leverkusen's Xhaka valuation According to reports from SportMediaset (via Milan have made an offer of €10m to sign former Arsenal and Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen. Meanwhile, Massimiliano Allegri's team are hoping to secure a deal for Luka Modric in the near future and also remain in talks with Valencia for 22-year-old midfielder Javi Guerra. In terms of outgoings, Milan could potentially offload centre-forward Alvaro Morata sooner than expected. Milan set for key meeting with Bayer Leverkusen for Granit Xhakaa
Serie A side Milan are set to make in-roads in their move for Granit Xhaka and will soon have a key meeting for the midfielder. Daniele Longo has reported that contacts between the Swiss midfielder and Milan have led to a positive outcome and it has encouraged the Rossoneri to hold talks with Bayer Leverkusen. Advertisement As a result, the two clubs will have an initial meeting about the player and Milan will convince the German giants to sell Xhaka this summer. So far, Leverkusen's stance has been quite firm and new manager Erik ten Hag is quite keen on keeping him. Milan want to go all the way and will offer a fee of €10 million to land the ex-Arsenal player. Ten Hag's side are interested in Malick Thiaw and while those are two different deals, that move could influence Milan's move for Xhaka, only if the Rossoneri seriously consider the German's sale. Milan to Wait for Modric, Search For More Midfield Help
Luka Modric has committed to joining Milan, but he'll put pen to paper only after the FIFA Club World Cup, which he'll play with Real Madrid. The Rossoneri won't stop there to replenish their midfield, which has lost Tijjani Reijnders, Alfredo Pedullà informs. New director Igli Tare is targeting Granit Xhaka and Ardon Jashari. The former is open to the destination and to transferring in general, but it'll depend on Bayer Leverkusen's evaluation. He's 33 and has three more years on his contract. Advertisement Instead, the Club Brugge prodigy has a €35M valuation, which might be too high for Milan. He tallied 4 goals and 6 assists in 52 matches in the recently concluded season. He has four caps with Switzerland. The Belgian team signed him from Luzern for €6M two years ago. In the other direction, the negotiation with Napoli for Yunus Musah has slowed down after the early momentum. The Rossoneri upped their request, but it's still on. Instead, Lazio are keen on Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who thrived under Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea. He could be expendable under the right circumstances. Our Take on the Milan Midfield If they get the chance to sign a proven leader like Xhaka for cheap, they should go for it, but they should stop at one veteran to avoid dynamism and stamina-related problems. The best version of the Englishman would be an ideal piece to complete their new line, but he's coming off a hellish campaign from an injury standpoint, so they might have soured on him. They should look for somebody with similar traits, but younger and more consistent. They shouldn't miss out on selling Musah for a couple of extra million.

‘As of today, I'm here' – Granit Xhaka on his Bayer Leverkusen future
Ahead of Switzerland's friendly against Mexico in Salt Lake City, Granit Xhaka had an opportunity to address his Bayer Leverkusen future after it emerged that Milan were interested in the Bundesliga and German Cup champion. With Xabi Alonso leaving Leverkusen for Real Madrid, Jonathan Tah switching to Bayern Munich and Jeremie Frimpong joining Liverpool, with Florian Wirtz also potentially heading out of the door at the BayArena, Xhaka explained his reasoning by his recent comments, which suggested that he was about to return to Basel. Advertisement 'I already experience a major upheaval at Arsenal in 2019 […] That takes a lot of energy,' said Xhaka. 'And I'm no longer 25. I'll be 33 in September. And of course, the players who are leaving or have left are a huge loss, definitely […] Because they were extremely important for the team.' Xhaka has three-years remaining on his contract, but that hasn't stopped clubs showing an interest in signing Xhaka. Directly addressing his future, Xhaka added: 'With Simon Rolfes and Fernando Carro, we have enough players who can hopefully get the team back to that level. Whether it's with or without me is another question. But as of today, I'm here. We're happy and that's what matters.' But Xhaka also admitted that a move away could be interesting. 'I haven't played everywhere yet,' added the 32-year-old. 'Of course, you think about it but as I said, my mind is far away. I have my family and my management to take care of such things. And when the time comes and you have an offer on the table, then you start thinking about it. And when the time comes for a transfer to take place, I'll definitely let you know.' GGFN | Daniel Pinder
