Here's when Samsung's XR headset is rumored to launch
Samsung's first XR headset, currently codenamed Project Moohan, has already been showcased by the company a bunch of times, but it's still not fully official. A new report out of Korea claims the company has now set a date for its unveiling: September 29. Then, it will become available for purchase on October 13, in Korea first. After the domestic market launch, it will gradually start to make its way to other places. This will be the first headset to use Android XR, which, as the name implies, is a version of Android made specifically for such headsets. Android XR itself was initially announced last year and is jointly developed by Google and Samsung, following their co-development success with the last few versions of Wear OS. You won't be surprised to find out that Android XR will include Google's Gemini AI. The Samsung headset is using Qualcomm's XR+ Gen 2 chipset, which is apparently manufactured by Samsung using a 4nm process. Before its full unveiling, the Samsung XR headset will be showcased once again at the company's Unpacked event next month, where it will announce the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7. Source (in Korean)

Samsung's Android XR headset may be ready for launch sooner than you'd think
Lanh Nguyen / Android Authority TL;DR A new report claims Samsung will hold a launch event for its XR headset on September 29, 2025. The headset will be released in South Korea on October 13, with global availability coming later. Project Moohan will be compatible with most Android smartphone and tablet apps to pad out the amount of available content. Samsung has been fairly quiet about Project Moohan since its unveiling back in January. The Android XR headset has been shown off a couple of times and we know it will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chip, but nothing else has really been confirmed. While a handful of leaks have helped shed some light on the product, there are still plenty of unknowns that surround the Vision Pro rival. However, a new report may have answered one of the most pressing questions we have — the release date. Project Moohan may get its own launch event on September 29, 2025, according to a report from NewsPim (via SamMobile). It's said that the hardware will then become available in South Korea on October 13, with global availability to come sometime later. Global availability will likely include the US. Before the launch event, Samsung may tease the XR device next month during its Unpacked event for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. At Unpacked, the company will reportedly showcase the prototype and play teaser videos for the audience. It's believed that Samsung will use this as an opportunity to gauge market interest. To separate itself from Meta and Apple, Samsung aims to tackle some of the sticking points that are common with this technology, like weight, battery life, content, and performance. In terms of content, the report mentions that most Android smartphone and tablet apps will be compatible with the headset without the need for modification. However, some first-party apps from Google and Samsung will have an immersive UI design. Even after this report, we're still missing some crucial details about Project Moohan, like the actual name, specs, and how much it will cost. If this information is true, then there's a possibility Samsung may drop at least a few more details about the device at July's Unpacked. Got a tip? Talk to us! Samsung showcases a VR headset screen with 20,000 nits brightness along with other display tech
As Samsung is preparing to launch its first mixed-reality headset, dubbed Project Moohan, the Korean tech giant showcased a cutting-edge OLEDoS panel for such headsets, capable of reaching 20,000 nits of brightness. OLEDoS panels are the same as standard OLED screens, but instead of using a glass or plastic substrate for the backplane, they use silicon, which allows higher brightness, resolution and pixel density. It's mostly used on small screens, and Samsung paired it with a Micro Lens Array to enhance brightness and viewing angles further. However, we don't know if Samsung will use that 1.3-inch panel for its XR headset, but it might end up using its flagship OLEDoS panel with 5,000 ppi and 15,000 nits peak brightness, and 120Hz variable refresh rate. It was showcased last month. During the Augmented World Expo (AWE) 2025 in the US, the company revealed several other cutting-edge displays - White OLEDoS panel, two QD-OLED gaming monitors, a Flexible Gaming OLED, a 12.4-inch rollable and foldable panel, a multi-foldable OLED and a micro-LED stretchable display.
