The Denver Broncos brought in a local wide receiver for a tryout this week. Former Colorado Buffaloes receiver Will Sheppard attended mandatory minicamp on a tryout basis on Tuesday, according to a report from the Denver Post's Luca Evans. Advertisement Evans previously spotted Broncos coach Sean Payton chatting up Sheppard at CU's pro day earlier this year. Sheppard posted 40-yard dash times of 4.56 and 4.54 seconds, a 40.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 11-inch broad jump at the pro day. He was not picked during the NFL draft in April but is now getting a chance to impress at Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit. Sheppard (6-2, 198 pounds) spent four years at Vanderbilt before transferring to Colorado last fall. He totaled 48 receptions for 621 yards and six touchdowns in 2024, ending his five-year college career with 200 catches for 2,688 yards and 27 touchdowns in 55 games. Saints to host highly productive Colorado wide receiver at local pro day The New Orleans Saints local prospect day is coming up in the near future, with this year's event set to take place on March 29. This gives the team a chance to look at players in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft class who were originally from the Louisiana area. One of those players has been added to the list of attendees for this offseason, coming from a high-profile Colorado Buffaloes team with a litany of top-end prospects this year. That player is wide receiver Will Sheppard, a five-year collegiate player who split time between Vanderbilt and Colorado. A recent report from Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston shared some of the information surrounding Sheppard, including some career stats, how he performed at the Big 12 pro day, and that he will be coming in for the Saints local prospect day later this month. Sheppard has had a strong career throughout his college days, with 2022 likely being considered his best season, as he would accrue 60 receptions for 776 yards (12.9 average) and 9 touchdowns, though his production remained extremely efficient from 2021 to 2024. In his most recent season, he had 48 receptions for 621 yards (12.9 average) and 6 touchdowns. At the Big 12 pro day, he had a 38.5-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-6 broad jump, and a 4.5-second 40-yard dash, which went down as low as 4.4 seconds in training, as was also reported by Wilson. This is relatively strong given he is 6-foot-3 and right around 200 pounds, and his success heavily comes from his ability to win jump-ball opportunities and catch over defensive backs. He could be a great addition to the Saints for the 2025 season, and someone to watch for in the later rounds of the draft.

Will Sheppard makes highlight grab in Shrine Bowl Colorado football wide receiver Will Sheppard has the size and talent that NFL scouts crave at his position, and during the first quarter of Thursday's East-West Shrine Bowl, he showed he can make next-level catches. The back-shoulder fade has become one of the most popular routes in the NFL due to how difficult it is for the average cornerback to defend. If the quarterback can put it in the right spot when the corner has their back turned to the ball, receivers have a chance at catching a mostly uncontested ball. Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams ran the route to perfection during their time with the Green Bay Packers, and now Sheppard is showing the ability to catch that same type of ball. Within the first two minutes of the first quarter, Sheppard lined up across UTSA's Zah Frazier, a big corner listed at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds. Missouri quarterback Brady Cook looked Sheppard's way and threw a strike to the outside, with the Colorado receiver twisting his body to haul in a 20-yard completion. Buffs fans have seen Sheppard use his big frame to make incredible plays in the red zone, but seeing him make these types of catches will only improve his draft stock.
