Jonathan Bailey says Wicked sequel is ‘darker' and will ‘go there politically'

Jonathan Bailey says Wicked sequel is 'darker' and will 'go there politically' The Bridgerton star, 37, plays Prince Fiyero in the films, also starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, which are adapted from the musical of the same name LONDON, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 20: (L-R) Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey attend the photocall for "Wicked: Part One" at the Greenwich Observatory on November 20, 2024 in London, England. (Photo by Jeff Spicer/WireImage) Actor Jonathan Bailey has said the Wicked sequel is "darker" and is "going to go there politically as well". The Bridgerton star, 37, plays Prince Fiyero in the films, also starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, which are adapted from the musical of the same name. ‌ "Being slightly off the M1 in Munchkinland, with Ari singing a beautiful mezzo soprano, and then seeing cars pulling up on the hard shoulder trying to record it, and then seeing men in the sky, (which) turned out to be microlights and drones, it was like Independence Day," he told British GQ. ‌ He added: "I remember having four hours to learn how to do a dance move. I did it with Ari, headbutted her, and was like, 'Gotta go!'. "I think she might have even headbutted me, but it was a meeting of minds, literally." Wicked's next instalment will arrive in cinemas in the UK and Ireland from November 21 and will cover the years after Elphaba, played by Erivo, parted ways with her friend Glinda (Grande). Article continues below Wicked: For Good will also show Elphaba being demonised by those in Oz, and transformed into The Wicked Witch Of The West. The films have been adapted from the musical, which was based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel – which was in turn inspired by the story first told in L Frank Baum's 1900 children's novel, later adapted into the 1939 film starring Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale. Bailey said: "It's darker, and I've got a sense it's going to go there politically as well. ‌ "Fiyero's arc really kicks off and he literally is transformed by the end." Other stars of Wicked include Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and US actor Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. Both Bailey and Goldblum are part of the Jurassic Park franchise. ‌ Goldblum played Dr Ian Malcolm in the original 1993 adventure/sci-fi while Bailey stars as Dr Henry Loomis in Jurassic World: Rebirth, which is yet to be released. "We'll see how it goes, but there might be a few films down the line where me and him can appear in Jurassic together," Bailey said. He added: "Dr Ian Malcolm and Dr Henry Loomis on a night out." Article continues below Bailey stars on the cover of the summer Heroes issue of British GQ and will be speaking at the GQ Heroes conference, taking place at Soho Farmhouse, Oxfordshire from July 2 to 4. The Heroes Issue of British GQ is available via digital download and on newsstands on June 10.

‘Wicked: For Good' Trailer: Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo promise a spectacular, emotional finale for the Witches of Oz saga

Prepare yourself to be changed for good, as the debut trailer of 'Wicked: For Good' has dropped online, offering fans a glimpse into the emotional conclusion of the story of Elphaba and Glinda. The Jon M. Chu-helmed project invites audiences to walk with them down the yellow brick road and witness the epic and emotional conclusion of the story of two best friends. Set to debut in theatres on November 21, Wicked: For Good picks up after the dramatic events of Wicked: Part One, with Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) now in hiding and branded the Wicked Witch of the West. As she wages a solitary war to reveal the truth about the Wizard ( Jeff Goldblum ) and protect the vulnerable Animals of Oz, her once-inseparable friend Glinda ( Ariana Grande ) has become a national icon of Goodness, basking in fame and political favour from her palace in Emerald City. Wicked: For Good | Official Trailer The trailer teases a dramatic shift in their relationship, with Glinda torn between her public role and the private guilt over her estrangement from her 'only friend that mattered'. 'And now whatever way our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend…' reads the caption of the trailer, underlining the film's core emotional arc. According to the maker, the film will see tensions escalate across Oz, as Glinda seeks reconciliation, but her efforts to bridge the divide only deepen the rift. Meanwhile, the narrative threads expand to include Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), whose upcoming royal wedding is set to become a turning point, as well as Boq (Ethan Slater) and Elphaba's sister Nessarose (Marissa Bode), all of whom are swept up in the consequences of the witches' choices. The trailer also previews musical highlights, featuring fan favourites like 'No Good Deed' and 'For Good', while teasing new original songs from composer Stephen Schwartz, who returns after the first film's Oscar-winning run. Michelle Yeoh returns as the calculating Madame Morrible, alongside returning cast members Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode and Bowen Yang . 'Wicked: For Good' sets the stage for an emotional, magical finale in which the future of Oz—and a once-unbreakable friendship—hang in the balance. Wicked: Part One scored ten nominations at the 2024 Academy Awards, winning Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. Ariana Grande's Next Film Is a Total Surprise

After the roaring success that was Wicked: Part One, Ariana Grande is at last committed to her next cinematic endeavor—and though the project comes from Wicked's studio home, it perhaps isn't the most obvious choice for a recent Oscar nominee and global pop icon. Nevertheless, make no recognizes beloved IP when she sees it. Thus her latest news: The 'we can't be friends' singer will join the cast of the next Meet the Parents sequel, set to drop in 2026. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Meet the Parents, which starred Ben Stiller as Greg Focker, who meets his girlfriend's parents, Jack (Robert De Niro) and Dina Byrnes (Teri Polo) over an eventful wedding weekend on Long Island. The comedy was a box-office success later followed by Meet the Fockers (2004) and Little Fockers (2010), helping the franchise gross $1.13 billion worldwide in total, per Deadline. Universal is currently keeping Grande's character and the film's plot specifics—as well as its title—under wraps. But Deadline confirms that much of the original cast will return for the next outing, including Stiller, De Niro, Polo, and Blythe Danner. John Hamburg, who co-wrote the three Meet the Parents predecessors, will write the script as well as direct. According to Deadline, 'Grande has had her fair share of scripts come her way' in Wicked's wake. 'Ultimately,' the outlet reported, 'her strong ties to the studio led her back to the lot on a project Universal is excited about.' The Meet the Parents sequel is set to launch on Nov. 25, 2026, almost exactly a year after Wicked's sequel, Wicked: For Good, drops this fall. When it comes to Universal, Grande certainly seems to think there's no place like home. This story will be updated.

The almost-three-hour long format is similar to last year – which saw singer Sydnie Christmas crowned as the winner – which came in with a runtime close to two hours and 30 minutes. The show has seen plenty of ups and downs as it has approached the final including act Teddy Magic, 8, pulling out ahead of the semi-final. 'After discussions with Teddy's parents and the production team, it has been jointly agreed that Teddy won't perform in this year's semi-finals, but BGT hopes to see Teddy again in a future series,' a spokesperson told The Sun. Elsewhere, singer Max Fox, 35, from Blackpool, was eliminated following his semi-final but has teased hopes of returning to the Britain's Got Talent stage for the finale anyway. 'This might be the end of BGT for now… or maybe not – wildcard, anyone? But whatever happens next, I'm excited for the future and all the magic still to come. The dream's not over, it's only just beginning,' he said in the caption to a recent Instagram post. And finalist Stacey was forced to take to social media to call out trolls sharing negative comments about her. More Trending 'I have seen so many not so kind comments since waking up this morning! Which I guess is understandable, as people get upset, angry and frustrated when they don't get the results that they want. 'But please remember I am a human being and I have feelings. All the other contestants who you all supported are amazing, beyond amazing, and all deserved a spot and are now my lifelong friends,' she shared and was met with huge support from fans. All will come to a head next Sunday as the acts put on their best performances yet for a chance to win £500,000. View More » Britain's Got Talent returns this Saturday at 7pm on ITV1. Ariana Grande May Soon Match Taylor Swift's All-Time Record

Ariana Grande's 'Twilight Zone' from Eternal Sunshine deluxe may earn her a fifth Grammy nod for ... More Best Pop Solo Performance—but she's never won the award. LONDON, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 18: Ariana Grande attends the "Wicked: Part One" European Premiere at The Royal Festival Hall on November 18, 2024 in London, England. (Photo by Neil Mockford/WireImage) Ariana Grande entered the 2025 Grammy Awards with three nominations. Sadly, she didn't take home any trophies, as she lost in all three categories. Her consolation prize, however, was a different kind of recognition: she was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Wicked. As the world waits for the second half of that musical blockbuster, Grande dropped several new tunes and re-released her album Eternal Sunshine. The focus of the updated full-length may bring her back to the Grammys in just a few months — and it could help her make history. 'Twilight Zone' is the standout from Eternal Sunshine: Brighter Days Ahead, the deluxe edition of the full-length. The track is the only single pushed from the project – at least thus far – and it's one of five brand new cuts added to the tracklist. The song became a top 20 hit on the Hot 100 and has been steadily gaining at pop radio for weeks. Now, it seems like a real contender for the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance — especially in a year that doesn't look like it will be nearly as competitive as recent ceremonies. Grande has already been nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance four times. She's been up for the prize for her smashes 'Dangerous Woman,' 'God Is a Woman,' '7 Rings,' and 'Positions.' Somehow, though, she's never taken home the golden gramophone. Currently, Grande is tied with Adele and Kelly Clarkson for the third-most nominations in the Best Pop Solo Performance category. Only Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift have scored more, and they lead with five apiece. If 'Twilight Zone' earns Grande another nod — which seems highly likely — she will match Eilish and Swift. Although, it's also possible that either of those women could end up nominated as well. Eilish pushed a new tune from her album Hit Me Hard and Soft, 'Wildflower,' in time to be eligible for the upcoming ceremony. Swift doesn't appear to have anything that's a fit at the moment, but that could change, as there are still several months left in the current window, which ends on August 30. Will 'Twilight Zone' finally give Grande her first moment on top in this busy field, or will she have to settle for a fifth loss in a row? Either way, she may soon be headed for a historic showing in what is considered one of the most competitive fields at the Grammys.
