Just ask Terron Armstead, a five-time Pro Bowl left tackle who recently retired from the NFL after 12 seasons. Armstead only faced Verse once in his career, a Week 10 bout between the Rams and Dolphins last season, but he's glad he never has to block the Defensive Rookie of the Year again. It's one of the highest compliments an offensive lineman can pay a defender, and it's clear Verse left a lasting impression on Armstead in their one battle. In a recent interview on The SiriusXM Blitz, Armstead mentioned Verse first when asked which pass rusher made his decision to retire easier. 'No. 1, he was a rookie from the Rams. That young boy Jared Verse? I'm cool. I'm good. I never got to see that man again. I'm OK with never seeing that young man again in my life,' Armstead said. Verse is only 24 but he's already one of the most powerful edge rushers in the game. Armstead got a firsthand look at Verse's bull rush last season and he says it's unlike others he faced in his career. Even after going up against Verse just once, Armstead guarantees Jared will win Defensive Player of the Year someday. 'Bull rush is different. Dog, it's different,' Armstead said. 'You know that it's coming, you brace yourself. He's different. Jared Verse is different. He will be a Defensive Player of the Year one of these days. Mark my words.' In the Rams' loss to the Dolphins last season, Verse had five pressures, a strip-sack and recovery, as well as three total stops, according to Pro Football Focus. His 89.7 overall grade was his highest in any game, so he sure did show out against Armstead and Miami's linemen. The strip-sack didn't come against Armstead but it was an impressive play, no less. That puts into perspective the class Verse is in as a defender already, ranking among the best edge rushers in football after just one season. It shouldn't be long before Verse turns his Defensive Rookie of the Year award into Defensive Player of the Year honors.

2025 UFL Power Rankings: Battlehawks enter postseason on top
With the 2025 UFL regular season coming to an end, only one of three Texas teams will finish with a losing record, while the defending UFL champion Birmingham Stallions are rounding into playoff form. Meanwhile, the St. Louis Battlehawks, winners of six straight heading into the postseason, look every bit as capable of winning their first spring league title. That said, here's a look at my updated UFL Power Rankings following Week 10: 8. San Antonio Brahmas (1-9) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A Jashaun Corbin ended the season with the UFL rushing title after picking up 55 yards on 10 rushes in the final week of the season. But that's about all the Brahmas will take with them in a season where former head coach Wade Phillips stepped down and Payton Pardee was thrust into the interim head coaching role. The Brahmas, who made the UFL title game a year ago, will enter this offseason looking to rebuild into a team capable of playing in the 2026 postseason. 7. Memphis Showboats (2-8) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A Not unlike the Brahmas, the Showboats dealt with head coach Ken Whisenhunt stepping down before a third of the season was finished. 6. Houston Roughnecks (5-5) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A CJ Johnson should be a candidate for UFL Coach of the Year. The Roughnecks won four of their last six games this season. Johnson's decision to play and then stay with QB Jalan McClendon was one of the biggest reasons why the Roughnecks get to go into the offseason without a losing record. 5. Arlington Renegades (5-5) Current odds to win 2025 title: N/A After completing 26 of 32 passes for 283 yards in the Renegades' Week 10 win over the Brahmas, Luis Perez won the UFL passing title with 2,298 yards while completing more than 70% of his passes this season. He has been the most consistent QB in the league, and he has shown himself to be one of the two best QBs in the league over the past three weeks. The Renegades scored 20 points in the second quarter and held that advantage until the Brahmas scored their final points of the season in the fourth quarter. 4. DC Defenders (6-4) Current odds to win 2025 title: +450 In a sloppy-field, rain-delayed final game of the season and with presumptive MVP Jordan Ta'amu on the sideline, the Defenders' offense looked like a shell of itself. Even so, backup QB Mike DiLiello accounted for 202 total yards and a touchdown against the regular-season XFL Conference champion Battlehawks. As this game acted as a preliminary for the XFL Conference Championship Game, no one was expected to show much. Interim coach Shannon Harris didn't want to jeopardize the health of his star player before the postseason, and that's understandable. But that also means the Defenders bring a two-game losing streak with them to St. Louis. 3. Michigan Panthers (6-4) Current odds to win 2025 title: +255 Without QB Bryce Perkins, the Panthers missed the kind of playmaking that led to them qualifying for the USFL Conference Championship Game. Backups Danny Etling and Rocky Lombardi completed just 13 of 30 passes for 124 yards with two interceptions. The Panthers take a two-game losing streak into the postseason against the defending UFL and three-time spring football league champion Stallions. 2. Birmingham Stallions (7-3) Current odds to win 2025 title: +235 Behind two pick-sixes from linebacker Tae Crowder, the Stallions left no doubt about how they're rounding into form right when they need to with two games left to play for a possible fourth consecutive spring football championship. After playing five different quarterbacks in a 10-week season, Skip Holtz looks to have found his postseason starter in J'Mar Smith, who finished 13-of-17 for 127 yards with a touchdown in a Week 10 win over Memphis. The Stallions have won four of their last five, with their only loss coming by a single point to the Battlehawks. 1. St. Louis Battlehawks (8-2) Current odds to win 2025 title: +200 The Battlehawks cemented their position as the best team in the regular season in 2025 with a workmanlike win against the second-best team in the XFL Conference and their starting quarterback, Max Duggan, on the bench. Quarterback Brandon Silvers needed to attempt just eight passes in the win, while the Battlehawk defense held the Defenders to just two points in the first three quarters of their final home game. With the XFL and UFL championship games taking place in St. Louis, the Battlehawks would benefit from home field advantage for the entirety of the playoffs. All they have to do is win. Add another joint practice to the list for the Houston Texans entering training camp. According to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan M. Alexander, the Texans will meet up for a joint battle with the Detroit Lions ahead of their preseason matchup in August at Ford Field. Houston will now have two joint practices this preseason, including one against the Carolina Panthers at NRG Stadium ahead of the August 16 showdown. Advertisement Texans coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed the report following the first day of voluntary OTA workouts. "We get to do it in a competitive environment where you're not getting down on the quarterbacks," Ryans said Wednesday. "It's the safest way. I feel like we can get really good work for our starters. I'm excited to go up against the Lions." Houston and Detroit met on primetime last November for a Week 10 showdown at NRG Stadium. Jared Goff tossed five interceptions, but C.J. Stroud's two costly turnovers in the second elevated the Lions to a 26-23 victory on Sunday Night Football. Former Titans LB shares impression of Drake Maye from opposing sideline
FOXBOROUGH - Playing for Tennessee last season, new Patriots linebacker Jack Gibbens got an up close view of Drake Maye. He was on the field when Maye made a miraculous play at the goal line, scrambling around, avoiding would-be tacklers before hitting Rhamondre Stevenson in the end zone from five yards out to tie the score in the final seconds. Advertisement While the Patriots went on to lose the game 20-17 in overtime in that Week 10 game in Tennessee, Gibbens was clearly impressed with the then Patriots rookie quarterback. 'I came out of that game with a ton of respect for him, and the competitor that he is and the team as a whole, how they fought, and Drake specifically,' said Gibbens, who led the Titans with 14 tackles that game. 'His mobility was on full display against us. We couldn't keep him in the pocket. He was running all over us.' Gibbens still has visions of Maye making that final play in regulation, somehow avoiding the rush for what seemed like an eternity. 'You could see the kind of the competitiveness, the creativity he has with that last touchdown, scrambling around, making it happen,' Gibbens said. 'So I definitely came out of there with a lot of respect for his game and the team as a whole, for sure.' Advertisement Gibbens did manage to register a sack of Maye in that game. 'I forgot about that,' Gibbens said. 'I think that was my only sack last season. I haven't brought that up, but I definitely will have to, now.'
