Iraq's top Shiite cleric warns against any targeting of Iran's leadership

Iraq's top Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani warned against targeting Iran's leadership and said that the Iran-Israel war could plunge the whole region into chaos. Sistani said in a statement Thursday that any targeting of Iran's "supreme religious and political leadership" would have "dire consequences on the region". He warned that it could spark "widespread chaos that would exacerbate the suffering of its (the region's) people and severely harm everyone's interests". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Los Andes (ver precio) Verisure Alarmas Undo Sistani urged the international community to "make every effort to end this unjust war and find a peaceful solution" to Iran's nuclear programme. Sistani, an Iranian, is the highest religious authority for millions of Shiite Muslims in Iraq and around the world, with the power to mobilise a huge portion of that base in Iraq. Live Events With warnings of all-out regional war intensifying following Israel's surprise assault on Iran last week, fears are growing over an intervention by Iran-backed Iraqi factions, mostly against American interests in the region. Despite his Iranian roots, Sistani is seen as an essential figure in Iraq's recent history and has been known for pushing back against Tehran's growing clout in the country. Israel launched a devastating surprise attack on Friday targeting Iran's military and nuclear sites and killing top commanders and scientists, saying it is acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, an ambition Tehran denies. The assault has prompted Iran to retaliate with barrages of missiles on Israel. Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not rule out plans to assassinate Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei , saying it would "end the conflict". US President Donald Trump had earlier said his country would not kill Khamenei "for now", but demanded Tehran's "unconditional surrender". Khamenei rejected Trump's demand, as the US president warned he was weighing military action in the conflict. Shiite Muslim clerics rallied late Wednesday, wearing military fatigues in southern Iraq, near the Iranian border. They held Iraqi and Iranian flags and shouted slogans condemning Israel's attack. In Lebanon, Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah warned against threatening Khamenei, describing it as "an act of recklessness and foolishness" that would have "grave consequences". It "constitutes an offence to hundreds of millions of believers", added the group, which suffered heavy blows in its latest confrontation with Israel last year.

Intel appoints engineering hires as part of CEO Tan's turnaround strategy

Intel hired three chip industry executives in engineering and networking roles on Wednesday, as part of CEO Lip-Bu Tan 's plans to overhaul top management and turn around the embattled chipmaker. Tan's plans include trimming the company's large workforce, hiring new leadership, focusing on customer satisfaction and ensuring the foundry business succeeds. Tan started to flatten Intel's leadership team since taking over as top boss in March with many important chip groups reporting directly into him, including sales veteran Greg Ernst , who was appointed chief revenue officer. Ernst previously served as Intel's head of U.S. sales and marketing operations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Alarma económica que arrasa en Buenos Aires - Listo en un día Verisure Alarma Ver oferta In keeping with its plans to become more engineering-focused, the company also tapped Srinivasan Iyengar , Jean-Didier Allegrucci and Shailendra Desai to lead engineering roles. Man arrested under Excise Act dies during treatment

Patna: A youth, Sunil Manjhi , from Gabhatal Mushahari, died during treatment at the PMCH after being arrested by Danapur police in Patna for alcohol-related offence. Upon learning about the death, relatives of Sunil staged a protest at the Danapur sub-jail's entrance on Sunday morning and later blocked the Danapur-Gandhi Maidan road. Sunil was arrested by the police on June 9 for consumption of alcohol and its sale. His wife, Mamta Devi, said that Sunil suffered from epilepsy and lost consciousness at the police station while being transferred to jail, yet the authorities proceeded with his incarceration. She further alleged that the police took six people into custody and four were released after paying money, while Sunil and his brother Ghamandi Manjhi were sent to prison. According to deputy jail superintendent Anil Kumar, both brothers, charged under the Excise Act, arrived at the jail on June 10. "When Sunil's health deteriorated, he received initial treatment on the jail premises, after which he was shifted to the Danapur sub-divisional hospital. He was then transferred to the PMCH on June 14 evening due to his critical condition, where he died during treatment on Sunday," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Florencio Varela (ver precio) Verisure Más información Undo Danapur's station house officer, Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj, told this reporter that the allegations made by the deceased's wife are baseless. "During a special drive against liquor smuggling, sale and consumption, around 20 people were arrested from different localities in the Danapur police station area on June 9. All the accused were produced in the court and they went through a medical check-up before being sent to jail," he said. "On Sunday morning, we received information about the death of Sunil. The police subsequently informed his family. His postmortem was done by the medical board in the presence of a magistrate, and all the procedures were followed. The cause of death will be known once the medical report comes," the SHO said. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Elon Musk's X first-ever reality TV show will allow viewers to invest in startups

Representative Image Elon Musk-owned social media platform, X (earlier Twitter), is set to launch a new reality TV show that will allow viewers to invest directly in featured startups. The series, titled 'Going Public,' is part of X's original programming and aims to compete in the financial media landscape. 'Going Public' is scheduled to stream live on June 24. This initiative aligns with X's previously stated commitment to empower smaller investors, a sentiment that X's content chief, Brett Weitz , expressed earlier this year. The show provides viewers with a direct opportunity to participate financially in the growth of new ventures. Why X's new reality show got delayed at first The show's final episode, which was originally set to be aired on June 13, was pushed back after details surfaced online. The producers said that they needed more time to deliver a richer live finale for viewers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Vistalba (ver precio) Verisure Más información Undo According to an earlier report by Barron's, this move may also invite extra scrutiny for X, which has faced criticism for spreading misinformation in the past on its platform. As per the report, viewers should exercise caution as founders of one of the featured startups, Dutch Mendenhall and Amy Vaughn, are under investigation by state and federal regulators in US. X's initiative opens startup investing to a broader audience, empowering smaller investors. However, the platform's history of misinformation and the involvement of founders facing regulatory probes may undermine confidence in the opportunities presented. In January, X announced its partnership with Crush Capital to license and distribute the innovative interactive investing show " Going Public ." The show follows startup founders as they compete to raise money and face tests of their business skills. Viewers learn about each company and its risks, then can 'Click to Invest' in under a minute. These companies use Regulation Crowdfunding to raise up to $5 million from everyday Americans, and since 2016, this method has generated nearly $1.5 billion.
