Sabah state polls: BN central, state leaders in sync

BANGI: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has dismissed claims by certain quarters that there is discord between the central and state BN leadership ahead of the upcoming Sabah state election. The Deputy Prime Minister said the leaderships remained aligned in principle and were merely conducting coordination efforts in preparation for the state polls. 'Upon review, I found that sometimes statements (by central and state BN leadership) are taken out of context. There are no differences in principle between the state's stance, especially UMNO and BN, and the central leadership's position. 'We frequently hold negotiations and discussions (regarding preparations for the Sabah state election),' he said at a press conference after officiating the National Community Development Department (KEMAS) Educators' Day at the national level here today. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO president, said that Pakatan Harapan (PH) need not act as a 'bridge' to connect BN and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) for the upcoming state election. 'This is because BN and PH are in agreement. Our decision is to open doors to other parties and coalitions (for cooperation). 'This matter is currently in the pipeline. I don't think a bridge or any other channel is necessary, God willing, we will engage in broader negotiations beyond GRS,' he said.

June 24 Hearing Of Originating Summons By UMNO For Ownership Transfer Of Land To Party

KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 (Bernama) -- The High Court here today set June 24 to hear the originating summons filed by UMNO seeking an order for the transfer of ownership of a 9,723-square-metre parcel of land in the capital to the party. Lawyer Nor Hazira Abu Haiyan, representing UMNO, said the date was set during the case management before Senior Assistant Registrar Nur Shasha Hidayah Nor Azahar via e-Review today. "The summons will be heard before Judge Roz Mawar Rozain," the lawyer said when contacted by Bernama. The originating summons was filed by UMNO Executive Secretary Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan on March 6, naming the Registrar of the Federal Territory Land and Mines Office as the defendant. In the suit, UMNO is seeking an order that the ownership of grant 78154, Lot 40 Section 51, Kuala Lumpur, registered in the names of the trustees, namely the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, Tun Musa Hitam, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the late Tan Sri Sanusi Junid, be transferred to UMNO by Clause 27.1 of the party constitution and Section 9 of the Societies Act 1966. Apart from that, UMNO is seeking an order to compel the Registrar of Titles or the Federal Territory Land Administrator to implement the order by making a memorial in the land title documents. Based on a supporting affidavit, Mohd Sumali said that based on Schedule Form 17, the application for permission to transfer the land ownership, dated Oct 27, 2015, for the property, which was accompanied by a Letter of Declaration dated Oct 22, 2015, was confirmed and signed by the four leaders involved. He said the UMNO office bearers, consisting of the party President, Deputy President and Secretary-General, have agreed through a Letter of Declaration dated Dec 10, 2015, to re-register the property from the previous trustees to the party. He said that through a letter dated 28 Dec 2015 from the Office of the Director of Land and Mines of the Federal Territory, the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Land Works Committee had approved the transfer of ownership from the Trustees to UMNO.

Ramsamy: Time to restore dignity; it's now or never for MCA to bid farewell to BN coalition

THE United Rights of Malaysian Party (Urimai) fully supports the stand of some sections in MCA to break away from Barisan Nasional (BN) in general and UMNO in particular. Contrary to the warning issued by the UMNO supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi, MCA is already in a deep mess within BN let alone digging its own grave by leaving the coalition. Although MCA has yet to make the final move, it is nevertheless clear that remaining in BN with UMNO's new-found ally DAP does not augur well for the grand old party of the Chinese. If UMNO can embrace its bitter political enemy despite years of bitterness and animosity, then UMNO in the eyes of the MCA has become unreliable and not trustworthy. Following the last general elections in 2022, UMNO was instrumental in not allocating ministerial positions for MCA and MIC. The latest assurance of UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that MCA and MIC will be considered for ministerial positions seems to be less than honest. Editor's Note: Zahid who is also the BN chairman had expressed confidence that MCA will remain in the coalition despite speculation of an internal push for the party to leave. 'There's no such thing (as MCA leaving BN). If it were happening, I'd hear it directly from MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong,' Zahid who is also the Deputy Prime Minister said after launching the Port Dickson UMNO division delegates meeting over the weekend (June 15). 'Perhaps there are movements by certain quarters; I've been told about that but the decision of their central committee suggests otherwise. In the Cabinet appointments, UMNO grabbed all the positions leaving MCA and MIC with nothing. While there are reasons why the MIC is reluctant to leave the fold of the BN and more so the PH-led coalition, there is nothing for MCA to gain by prolonging its stay within the BN coalition. By prolonging its stay in the BN, MCA is only digging its own grave. Leaving the BN means among other things restoration of dignity and the chance to climb out of the coffin. MCA or the MIC cannot wait for the right circumstances to leave, decision must be made under the circumstances that present themselves. It is now or never for MCA that is on the verge of drowning in the tears of sorrow and indignity. – June 17, 2025 Former DAP stalwart and Penang chief minister II Prof Ramasamy Palanisamy is chairman of the United Rights of Malaysian Party (Urimai) interim council. UMNO To Remain In Govt To Push Malay, Bumiputera Agenda

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- UMNO will remain in the federal government to continue championing the Malay and Bumiputera agenda, said party deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. He described the decision as a strategic move, warning that exiting the government would simply allow another party to take its place. 'If we leave, another party will fill the gap within two hours. We don't want to be spectators on the sidelines. It is better to be in government, where we can drive new agendas suited to today's realities,' he said. bootstrap slideshow Mohamad, who is also the Member of Parliament for Rembau, was speaking after officiating the Cheras UMNO division delegates meeting here today. He cited Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as one of the party's key focus areas. Although the portfolio is traditionally under the Human Resources Ministry, he said UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had taken the lead in addressing gaps, particularly affecting Malay youths. bootstrap slideshow 'Many are not dropping out because they failed exams, but because they never sat for them. That's why we introduced the National TVET Policy, the National Tahfiz Policy and several other initiatives,' he said. Mohamad added that UMNO was undertaking internal reforms to adapt to a shifting political landscape, following setbacks in the 2022 general election. 'The political reality now is that no party, anywhere in the world, can govern alone. That era has ended.

Although we have 192 divisions, our strategy should focus on constituencies we can win. Political idealism can be misleading and dangerous,' he said. He also expressed pride in UMNO's internal unity, saying it was one of the few stable parties in the country. 'No one will support a party that's in disarray. We must maintain harmony and project ourselves as a moderate, peaceful force,' he added.
