NordVPN achieves excellent results in latest security and performance evaluation

NordVPN has announced the results of an independent test assessing its performance and security. The test was conducted by West Coast Labs in March 2025 and praised NordVPN's strong results, cementing its reputation as the best VPN on the market. West Coast Labs carried out the evaluation under AMTSO (Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization) guidelines and examined NordVPN's performance across key technical categories. Speed, security, and reliability were the main focuses and NordVPN was put up against three randomly selected, undisclosed, competitors. West Coast Labs conducted the test on NordVPN's Windows 10 and 11 VPN applications, using a high-speed 1 Gbps connection. Main areas of focus included: Split tunneling and the kill switch were confirmed to be working and secure. For the most secure VPNs, a functioning and reliable kill switch is a non-negotiable feature. It cuts your internet connection should your VPN fail, ensuring your data is never unprotected. Auto-launch on boot and auto-connect were also examined and performed consistently and correctly. The Ookla speed test tool was used to measure VPN speeds, latency, and connection time. The regions tested were the UK, France, Netherlands, Germany, East Asia, Australia (east coast), and the U.S. (west coast). NordVPN is one of the fastest VPNs and the highest download speed recorded in this test was 920 Mbps – recorded on a U.S. server. This is just short of the 950+ Mbps we found in our own testing. Compared to the undisclosed competitors, NordVPN delivered 15.2% faster downloads, 12.4% faster uploads, and 7.9% lower latency. The average time for NordVPN to establish a secure, encrypted tunnel was 1.67 seconds. West Coast Labs noted this was 36.1% faster than the industry average. This was measured from the moment a user initiated a connection to the point when traffic was securely routed through the VPN. Eight separate leak scenarios were tested, including IP address, DNS, WebRTC, and IPv6 leak checks, as well as protection during server switching, Wi-Fi hotspot changes, and mobile data transitions. Two advanced cases were also tested. This was a split-tunneling flaw and the TunnelVision attack – a known vulnerability that can be particularly challenging to defend against. All scenarios were passed with good marks, demonstrating NordVPN's class-leading privacy and security. Some websites may identify the fact you're using a VPN and a small number might even block you from accessing the site. West Coast Labs tried to access 100 of the most visited websites, both before and after connecting to NordVPN. There was a 100% success rate, with all sites remaining accessible. However, some CAPTCHA challenges were experienced. Finally, NordVPN had a minimal impact on system performance. Compared to no VPN connection, memory usage increased by 1.1% and processor usage increased by 3.8%. If you want to see more detail, you can read the West Coast Labs report in full. "Independent testing is one of the most honest measures of our work," said Marijus Briedis, CTO at NordVPN. "This evaluation confirms that NordVPN delivers strong security while maintaining high levels of speed and usability – a result we're proud to stand behind." "We design it to work quietly in the background – quick to connect, light on system resources, and ready to protect across a range of scenarios, including those that test for serious vulnerabilities like TunnelVision. It's good to see those goals confirmed." NordVPN regularly undergoes independent audits, verifying its commitment to privacy and security. At the end of 2024, it had its no-logs policy audited for a fifth time, as well as its security credentials – both audits yielded positive results. We test and review VPN services in the context of legal recreational uses. For example: 1. Accessing a service from another country (subject to the terms and conditions of that service). 2. Protecting your online security and strengthening your online privacy when abroad. We do not support or condone the illegal or malicious use of VPN services. Kodak Black reunites with childhood babysitter who shares emotional prayer during Golden Acres community visit

Rapper Kodak Black, born Dieuson Octave, had an emotional reunion with his childhood babysitter in Golden Acres, Florida. The encounter occurred during a community event where the artist paid rent for over 200 families, highlighting his ongoing commitment to giving back. As reported by VIA-X and widely shared on social media, Kodak's former babysitter approached him during the outreach and offered a heartfelt prayer of support. 'They trying to mess you up but they can't, God is with you,' she told him, expressing her continued faith in his resilience. She also added, 'I love you baby,' to which Kodak, visibly moved, replied, 'Thank you, thank you.' Raised in Golden Acres by his single mother, Haitian immigrant Marcelene Octave, Kodak faced early hardships shaped by poverty and crime. Community figures like his babysitter provided rare but lasting guidance. Her recent words suggest she recognized his potential even then, praying for his protection through adversity. Kodak first gained national attention with breakout tracks like 'No Flockin' and 'Tunnel Vision.' While his career has been marked by legal troubles, including probation violations and weapons charges, he has also received clemency—most notably from former President Donald Trump in 2021—and remained active in music and philanthropy. Beyond his success in hip-hop, Kodak has shown growing interest in community uplift. His actions—such as funding scholarships and early childhood programs—reflect a desire to support others facing the struggles he once knew.

Meet Sam Akpro, the south Londoner with a brilliantly restless sound

Young musicians and fans in the 2020s are pre-programmed to listen to and appreciate music from across the genre spectrum without thinking. 'Genre-less' has become a somewhat overused catch-all term in recent times, but few embody it better than south London songwriter Sam Akpro. His debut album Evenfall, released on US punk label ANTI-, marries punk, pop, psych, rap and more, all tied together by his distinctive voice and energy. In a nonchalant explanation of his boundary-breaking sound, Akpro simply tells us: 'You hear something grunge and then you hear some rap. Then, when you're trying to make music, you're like, 'Well, I really like both these things'.' It really shouldn't be more complicated than that. Watch the video for new single 'Tunnel Vision' and read our interview with Akpro – about the journey to his debut album, getting his musical education on the internet and prioritising leaving space in his music – below. This is the perfect time. I started releasing in 2019, and then there was the lockdown. There was just a big gap of two years of my life where I didn't really write anything – there wasn't a headspace to create anything. Now, I feel the most confident writing music, playing the music live, and doing everything justice now. If I'd done an album two years ago, I wasn't very mature yet. Just growing up, life changes, moving out of my parents' house. I was trying to figure out what the vision was for my music career. I'm still not like entirely sure, but it's to reflect on myself but also look outside and commentate on what's going on outside around me and beyond myself. You can get caught up in thinking about yourself too much. I was listening to a lot of '80s post-punk stuff, A. R. Kane, Massive Attack, The Pop Group. I was listening to lots of hip-hop and rap, especially Q-Tip. I listened to a lot of that to learn about sampling elements, which I definitely added to the record. There's a lot of collaging of my own stuff from recordings I did years ago. There's just too much music for you to listen to just one thing. You can find any kind of music you want in the world, listening on streaming or YouTube. That's where I found music. I didn't find it in a subculture, though I guess the Internet has its own subculture – the internet is the world. It's everything, whether that's good or bad. That shines through in the way people write and create music. Even if you don't think about it, you hear something grunge and then you hear some rap. Then, when you're trying to make music, you're like, 'Well, I really like both these things', and it just flows through and then creates something. There's a lot of gaps and space in the songs. When I wrote 'I Can't See the Sun', it was only three or four elements, and I was like, 'Wow, I've never made anything like this'. The things I wrote prior were more out of naivety and experimentation. That still was, but it feels like a defined version of what those things were. That's what I'm trying to get away from – filling things with too much stuff. You're hiding the mediocrity in all the loud sounds. On the album, we were layering a lot of things and then we stripped things back and it just made it 100 times better. The things you're listening for and want to hear already there – you just gotta remove things.

One of Kodak Black's exes is dragging the rapper to court. Here's what we know so far

Kodak Black's baby mama saga continues — now in the legal arena. Maranda Johnson has taken the rapper to court, attempting to increase her child support for their two kids, TMZ first reported. Black's attorney Bradford Cohen told the media outlet that his client already duly financially supports all of his five kids and that Johnson's latest move is out of spite. Last month, gossip watchers may recall Johnson was reportedly involved in a massive fight that broke out at the third birthday party for their daughter Queen Yuri. They also have a baby son, Prince Kapri, who is about to turn one. As per an incident report obtained by the Miami Herald, multiple guests eventually joined in the skirmish at Manor Complex entertainment complex in Wilton Manors in the early hours of Jan. 26. 'Officers saw a lot of kids and women running towards the exit,' said the complaint. 'Officers requested more units come and help [and] quickly entered the building to stop the fights. Inside, officers saw multiple groups of people fighting. [They] started giving orders, removing people from the building while looking for people who could be injured or in need of fire rescue.' A witness told cops that the trouble started because the 'Tunnel Vision' singer decided to invite all three mothers of his kids to the gathering and they were 'unhappy' about the situation. 'They started arguing, and one attempted to fight Black three times inside the venue,' said the report, adding that both an uncle of one of the kids and a member of Black's entourage also got involved, and things escalated quickly. There were a few minor injuries, as well as damages to the property, but no arrests were made. As for Black (real name Bill Kapri), he was long gone by the time law enforcement arrived. As per the Broward County Clerk of Court, Johnson filed papers to increase her payments roughly two weeks after the incident, on Feb. 11. The 'W.A.G.S. to Riches' star is represented by Hollywood lawyer Jodie Lynn Bassichis. No hearing on the matter has yet been set.
