Kaizer Chiefs transfer twist: Sundowns block free move for Nigerian
Kaizer Chiefs' hopes of snapping up a promising striker for free have hit a major roadblock after a crucial administrative change reshaped the player's status at Mamelodi Sundowns. Amakhosi had shown strong interest in Nigerian forward Etiosa Ighodaro, who was previously expected to leave Sundowns at no cost. However, the Tshwane-based club reportedly now plans to retain and monetise the striker after a pivotal shift in his registration status. Sundowns had initially planned to offload Ighodaro, who recently returned from a loan spell. But with the 23-year-old securing his Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) in South Africa, the Brazilians no longer see a need to release him to manage their foreign player quota. A source confirmed the change in strategy, to Soccer Laduma. 'Since he still has a contract with Sundowns, what they are planning to do now is register him as a local next season instead of releasing him and make some cash by selling him to any team that is interested in him. Yes, they were planning to just release him but with him obtaining his Permanent Residence Permit (PRP), he can be registered as a local and that eases the foreign quota problems for Sundowns or any other team which would sign him from Sundowns as he will be registered as a local player.' This move means Kaizer Chiefs will now need to pay a transfer fee if they want to secure the striker's signature, something that may complicate their already tight recruitment strategy. While Kaizer Chiefs have kept a close eye on Ighodaro, they're not the only club circling. Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu FC, Sekhukhune United, and even Russian outfit FC Baltika have also expressed interest in the striker. With his new local status, Ighodaro has instantly become a more attractive asset in the South African football market. However, this also means Sundowns hold the upper hand. They can either integrate him into their squad or sell him to the highest bidder. Where will ighodaro fit in? Kaizer Chiefs or Mamelodi Sundowns? Kobamelo Kodisang reconsiders Sundowns future
Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Kobamelo Kodisang is reportedly reconsidering his future at the Tshwane-based club. Kodisang arrived as one of the high-profile signings following his decision to return home from Europe. However, the 25-year-old has not really lived up to the expectations as he often finds himself out in the stands. Competition for a place in the Sundowns starting line-up has been very stiff for him despite being highly rated. He was only limited to just 13 appearances across all competitions this past season, scoring twice and assists in a further two. According to UnplayableZA , Kodisang is seriously pondering his future with a possible exit not entirely ruled out. Kabomelo Kodisang signs for Mamelodi Sundowns. Hijacking hotspots in Pretoria exposed: Avoid these areas
Hijackings in Pretoria are surging, with Mamelodi East, Akasia, and Sunnyside emerging as the city's most dangerous hotspots. Hijackers are zeroing in on Pretoria, with Mamelodi East, Akasia, and Olievenhoutbosch ranking among the country's most dangerous precincts for carjackings. According to the latest crime statistics released by SAPS for the period January to March 2025, these Tshwane-based stations recorded some of the highest hijacking figures nationwide—Mamelodi East with 65 cases, Akasia with 58, and Olievenhoutbosch with 51. These numbers place all three precincts in the national top 30 for aggravated robberies, highlighting a worrying trend for motorists in the capital. While Gauteng recorded a general decline in carjackings, Tshwane remains a key target area, with criminals favouring high-traffic routes, driveways, and intersections to strike. Here are the hot spots: Mamelodi East – 65 cases Akasia – 58 cases Olievenhoutbosch – 51 cases Sunnyside – High risk zone (frequently listed in trio crime stats) Pretoria West – Noteworthy activity linked to aggravated robberies Mamelodi West – Not in the top 30 but consistently flagged in past stats Temba – Previously listed among high-risk stations for violent crimes. Eersterust and Garsfontein – Not top-ranked but noted for related robbery and theft activity Residents are urged to remain vigilant, especially during the early morning and evening hours, when most of these incidents typically occur. Meanwhile, Paul Visser from the Pretoria ICE Community Network said here are the most targeted vehicles in the country now: VW Polo Toyota Hilux Ford Ranger Toyota Corolla Cross Toyota Fortuner Haval Jolion Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Haval H6 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro These models are often targeted due to their resale value, parts demand, and, increasingly, use in cross-border vehicle smuggling syndicates. SuperSport retain their Betway Premiership status
On that occasion, Christian Saile had handed United an early lead in the fourth minute, before Velemseni Ndwandwe drew Arrows level. Keenan Phillips of Golden Arrows challenged by Samir Nurkovic of Supersport United during the Betway Premiership 2024/25 match at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on the 29 May 2025 © Samuel Shivambu/BackpagePix SuperSport United have retained their Betway Premiership status following a 1–1 draw against Golden Arrows at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Thursday. The fixture resumed with just 45 minutes of the second half to be played, after the original match was abandoned three months ago due to a power failure. ALSO READ: Could the Premiership relegation battle be decided in court? On that occasion, Christian Saile had handed United an early lead in the fourth minute, before Velemseni Ndwandwe drew Arrows level. The match was initially set to mark Gavin Hunt's milestone of 1,000 games in charge in South Africa's top-flight football. However, the veteran coach was dismissed in March after a string of disappointing results, with Andre Arendse taking over the reins on an interim basis. Needing only a point to steer clear of the relegation play-offs, SuperSport approached the rescheduled encounter with caution. The Tshwane-based outfit were content to concede possession, defending deep in their own half for much of the match. Arrows struggled to break down a well-organised United side that was clearly playing for a draw. Aside from half-chances for Samir Nurković and substitute Bradley Grobler, SuperSport offered little going forward in a largely uneventful second half. The result sees SuperSport finish 14th on the log with 27 points from the revised 28-game season. ALSO READ: Tovey blasts Chiefs' 'not good at all' season Cape Town City also conclude their campaign on 27 points, but Arendse's charges edge them due to a superior goal difference. On the other hand, Arrows end their campaign in 12th position on the log standings, and two points outside the top eight. Manqoba Mngqithi's team needed to win by an avalanche of goals to boost their chances of sneaking into the top half of the log. Royal AM expulsion from the premiership means that they are essentially relegated as the league finishes with 15 teams. Barring any legal disputes, The Citizens will now contest the relegation play-off mini-league against ORBIT College and Casric Stars who finished second and third respectively in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Durban City, have secured automatic promotion to the elite tier of South African football.
