NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — Two people suffered gunshot wounds in a shooting Thursday night near Bank Street, according to New London police. Around 11:12 p.m., police responded to the area of Bank Street and Golden Street for report of shots fired and someone possibly injured. Groton police investigating scene at Super 8 Motel on Route 12 Upon arrival, officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound to his lower extremity. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of the non-life threatening injury. Later, a second adult male arrived at the hospital, also for treatment of a gunshot wound in his lower extremity. The injury was non-life threatening. Police said the shooting does not seem to be a random act. Two people were hospitalized following a shooting in New London on Thursday night. Officers received a report of the shooting at 11:12 p.m. and responded to the area of Bank Street and Golden Street where they found a man who appeared to have been shot in the leg, according to Brian M. Wright, chief of the New London Police Department. The man received medical attention at the scene from police before being taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. Wright said police found evidence in the area confirming there was a shooting. The scene was secured as police established a perimeter. The department's Investigative Services Division responded to collect evidence and process the scene. As police were still investigating, they learned that a second victim arrived at Lawrence + Memorial for treatment for what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his leg, Wright said. According to Wright, neither victim suffered life-threatening injuries. The shooting does 'not appear to be a random act,' Wright said in a statement. The investigation remains ongoing. One of the bullets struck a resident's mattress, according to a Monday police report. No one was injured. Multiple 911 callers reported gunfire. Witnesses told dispatchers they heard at least five shots, according to the report. Officers found four people, ages 26, 51, 56 and 70, in two homes along East Emerling Avenue that had been struck by gunfire, according to the report. A vehicle parked on the street was also struck. Officers found several shell casings in the area. Police responded to another reported shooting hours later, just after 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, in the 300 block of Ira Avenue. Witnesses told authorities they heard gunfire and 'saw people running and screaming in the area,' reads the report. Officers arrived on scene and found seven people inside a home that had been hit by bullets, at least one of which went through a bedroom wall, according to the report. Officers found four shell casings in the area. They also found an ATV in the street, which they believe the suspects used to flee the area. A third shooting was reported at about 4 p.m. on Sunday in the 1200 block of Weiser Avenue. Woman dies following single-vehicle crash in New London

A woman was killed in a single-car crash in New London early Sunday. Emergency crews responded to the area of State and Bank Streets at 12:37 a.m. on the report of a crash and found a heavily damaged vehicle that had struck a fixture in Parade Plaza, according to Brian M. Wright, chief of the New London Police Department. Wright said an injured woman had to be extricated by crews with the New London Fire Department. She was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Joslyn Wakefield, according to Wright.
