Timeform boffins have picked out these tips on day three at Royal Ascot including another one for John Gosden
TOP MAN Timeform boffins have picked out these tips on day three at Royal Ascot including another one for John Gosden CHARLES DARWIN (2.30) sets the standard for his rivals to aim at in the opening Norfolk Stakes. The boffins at Timeform have given him a rating of 109p, a whopping 11lb CLEAR of nearest rival Afjan (98P). 1 Trawlerman is a big contender for the Ascot Gold Cup Credit: Copyright 2024 Ian Headington No two-year-old had achieved a higher rating than Charles Darwin heading into Royal Ascot this season, while Tuesday's impressive Coventry Stakes winner Gstaad (111p) is now rated only 2lb higher. Sioux Nation, in 2017, was the last Norfolk hero who ran to a higher level than Charles Darwin's rating. The colt's trainer Aidan O'Brien is also responsible for Gold Cup favourite Illinois, though the one to beat on form is last year's runner-up Trawlerman. TRAWLERMAN (4.20) has a Timeform rating of 124 based on the form he showed when chasing home staying star Kyprios, while he also ran to the same level when beating the same rival – who admittedly wasn't at his best – in the 2023 Long Distance Cup. Those pieces of form place Trawlerman 4lb clear of favourite Illinois and Sweet William on Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings. There are a host of progressive colts in the Britannia, including RAAFEDD (5.00) who showed much-improved form and a good turn of foot when getting off the mark at Newbury. He won with much more in hand than the margin of two lengths would suggest, and he still has the Timeform 'small p' to show he's likely to improve again this afternoon. The second and third both won next time out and Raafedd looks fairly treated on his handicap debut, heading Timeform's weight-adjusted rating by 2lb. Timeform boffins have picked out these tips on day two at Royal Ascot including big fancy for Aidan O'Brien
BIG ANGE Timeform boffins have picked out these tips on day two at Royal Ascot including big fancy for Aidan O'Brien Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE boffins at Timeform reckon punters should side with Karl Burke in the opening race on Day Two, the 25-runner Group 2 Queen Mary over five furlongs. The bookies do too as they have North Yorkshire trainer Burke's ZELAINA (2.30) as the 9-4 favourite after her visually impressive debut win at Nottingham. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Los Angeles is well-fancied in today's Prince Of Wales's Stakes Credit: PA Timeform have her on a rating of 90P, the large 'P' denoting a horse expected to show significant improvement. If she does, it could take her past the current top-rated filly in the race True Love who is also expected to improve from her rating of 93p. Punters should also note canny Burke has won two of the last three editions of this race. LOS ANGELES (4.20) is not just the top-rated runner in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, Timeform make him the second-best horse currently in training in Britain and Ireland. The form gurus were particularly taken by his win in last month's Tattersalls Gold Cup which earned him a rating of 126, 2lb less than stablemate Jan Brueghel. What Los Angeles may lack for in true superstar quality he makes up for with his never-say-die attitude which was too much for Anmaat at The Curragh who looked as if he was going to win but waved the white flag when gritty Los Angeles eyeballed him and battled back. However Timeform have Anmaat just 1lb behind on 125. See The Fire has a rating of 120 but her 3lb fillies' allowance edges her closer on 123. ROGUE LEGEND (6.10) is worth the wait. Timeform reckon he has the best form in the race and they believe a repeat of his win in a conditions race at Tipperary would be good enough today. He is on a rating of 105p - a whopping 15lb clear of his rivals in this. Rogue Legend poised to join growing Resolute Racing squad
Paddy Twomey's two-year-old has won twice since narrowly beaten on debut and was impressive in the silks of the Rogues Gallery syndicate – who will be represented by James Owen's Rogue Impact in the Betfred Derby on Saturday – in a hot race at Cork recently. However, Rogue Legend will sport the colours of the American operation at the Royal meeting, pending blood test results which are expected to be confirmed early next week. Stewart said: 'I was impressed with his recent performance on the track and plan to run him in one of the two-year-old sprint races at Royal Ascot. We will enter him in all of them and then pick the race. 'With a Timeform rating of 104 he is one of the top two-year-old sprint horses in Europe and I expect for him to be very competitive.' Stewart has previously stated his ambition to make Resolute Racing a force on the world stage and last year acquired the Francis-Henri Graffard-trained Goliath after his victory in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. The American was the source of conversation on X last week when inadvertently suggesting he had struck a deal to purchase Richard Hannon's Queen Anne hope Rosallion. But he instead continues his association with Twomey having previously recruited Irish 1,000 Guineas runner-up A Lilac Rolla from the Irish handler, with the four-year-old poised to make her first appearance for Bill Mott in Saturday's Just A Game Stakes at Saratoga.
