Google Mocks Apple's iOS 26 With Humorous Podcast Video, Samsung Joins Roast
Apple announced iOS 26, the newest version of its operating system, on June 9th as one of a slew of new announcements at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Apple also unveiled a new visual revamp, which they referred to as the "Liquid Glass" design. The new look is also a part of changes to core apps and the entire platform, representing a major change in its aesthetics. However, it seems these new features and announcements by Apple have not impressed tech giants like Samsung and Google at all. Google has posted a playful video mocking a bundle of new features arriving on iOS 26, some of which Android users—especially Pixel owners—have been enjoying for years. Entitled 'Best Phones Forever: Responding to MORE Rumors,' the video was uploaded to Google's YouTube account on June 17 and has since generated a heap of laughter online. The animated video is a playful podcast-style exchange between an Apple iPhone and a Google Pixel. As they chat, the Pixel indirectly accuses iOS 26 of copying some of its older features, which it sarcastically refers to as "just some crazy coincidences" because "they're not out yet!" Features like live text translation, hold assist, and call screening—newly added in iOS 26—have been available on Pixel devices since at least 2018. To add further insult to injury, the video winds down with iPhone asking anxiously, "Sooo... What are you working on for Pixel 10?" —a not-too-subtle reminder of Google's forthcoming launch, which has been speculated for August. However, Google wasn't the only one to mock the Tim Cook-led smartphone maker. Samsung did it days ago, during Apple's WWDC25. Apple's toughest competitor poked fun at iOS 26 and macOS 26 with a series of snarky posts on X (formerly Twitter). One post read, "Customizable apps? Floating bars? That sleek glass UI? Looks... familiar." Another jab stated, "Apple brings Live Translation. For a fuller account, check the Galaxy S24 launch 16 months ago." Samsung also flaunted its Galaxy AI improvements and subtly suggested that Apple's updates are more reactive than innovative. "AI is coming to your watch? Cute! Ours already knows you're too tired to care #GalaxyAI," the Android giant said, pulling no punches. What was noteworthy about Apple's keynote wasn't just the dearth of any specific emphasis on AI; it was how the competition gleefully filled that silence. With Apple's focus on privacy and evolutionary innovation, competitors like Google and Samsung took the opportunity to remind users that they have been ahead on AI-powered features for some time.

Apple WWDC 2025 keynote tonight: How to watch live in India, start time, and more
Apple will be kicking off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) today on Monday, June 9, with a keynote address starting from 10:30 PM IST. The WWDC stage is often used by Apple to share the latest software updates and new consumer features that the tech giant has been working on. This rarely includes hardware-related announcements, unless it involves Vision Pro or Apple Silicon. To be sure, the unveiling of the latest iteration of the iPhone is expected to happen in September this year. With that out of the way, here's what you can expect from WWDC 2025, how you can watch, and the top WWDC rumours about what Apple has up its sleeve. Monday's keynote is going to be livestreamed on Monday, June 9, starting from 10:30 PM IST onwards. You can watch the keynote live either directly on Apple's website or by visiting the company's official YouTube channel. You can also follow along with The Indian Express' live blog in case you don't want to miss out on any updates during the event. Right after the keynote, we will also be bringing you breakdowns and in-depth coverage of the biggest reveals from WWDC 2025 as well as what they signal about Apple's ambitions in the high-stakes AI race. One of the biggest announcements to come out of WWDC 2025 will be the revamped design of iOS as well as a new naming convention, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Instead of naming the latest version of the operating system iOS 19, after iOS 18, the company is likely to skip ahead to iOS 26 which will be followed by iOS 27, iOS 28, iOS 29, etc, in the future. Apple is also expected to announce a major shift in the aesthetics of its software in order to make the visual elements more consistent across the company's myriad products like the Vision Pro, Apple Watch, iPad, and more. The Tim Cook-led company is also expected to take another shot at social gaming by introducing a new pre-installed gaming app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV devices. Finally, Apple is also expected to open up access to its foundational AI models. This means that third-party software developers and researchers could get access to the company's large language models (LLMs) in order to build features within apps for iPhones and other Apple devices. At WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled Apple Intelligence—a suite of AI features—and announced a revamped Siri powered by ChatGPT. However, the rollout has been sluggish, the features are limited, and the promised Siri revamp has been delayed indefinitely with the company reportedly stating that it needs more development and testing before release. Hence, the generative AI redo of Apple's voice assistant is highly unlikely to be among the software surprises planned for WWDC 2025. But that doesn't necessarily mean WWDC 2025 will be without its share of AI as the company is still expected to make announcements related to developer-focused AI tools, features, and integrations. For instance, rumours suggest that it might unveil a new AI-powered tracker designed to help extend an iPhone's battery life. As for hardware surprises, Apple's refreshed lineup of smartphones and other gadgets are expected to be announced at an event later this year.

iPhone 17 lineup expected in September; Apple faces pressure to make AI count
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025, sticking to its annual upgrade cycle. According to reports and supply chain leaks, the Tim Cook-led company is adding a fourth model to its flagship smartphone series this year. New model incoming In addition to the base iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, Apple is tipped to introduce a new variant called iPhone 17 Air—a thinner (around 5.5 mm) and lighter model, possibly with a single rear camera. This could serve as Apple's answer to a segment of users looking for portability over performance. Specs and display All iPhone 17 models, including the Air , are expected to feature 120Hz ProMotion displays. The screen sizes may range from 6.3 inches for the base model to 6.9 inches for the Pro Max. The Air is rumoured to come with a 6.6-inch display. Apple may expand Always-On Display functionality across the lineup, though this is not confirmed. While the iPhone 15 and 16 Pro models used titanium frames, the company may revert to aluminium for the iPhone 17 series—except for the Air, which could feature a titanium-aluminium hybrid. The camera layout is reportedly getting a makeover. Instead of the squircle or vertical pill seen in recent models, the Pro variants may adopt a rectangular bar across the back, while the Air could feature a horizontal pill-shaped module. The iPhone 17 Pro Max might house a smaller Dynamic Island, thanks to new Face ID tech. Also Read: Apple to open its AI models to developers: Report AI urgency The design overhaul comes amid renewed scrutiny of Apple's position in the AI arms race. Former chief designer Jony Ive , who played a key role in shaping Apple's product DNA, recently announced a $6.4 billion deal with OpenAI to develop new AI-native hardware, through his startup io. Apple, which pioneered on-device AI with features like Face ID, Siri, and computational photography, is now under pressure as rivals like Google and Microsoft push ahead with generative AI and large language models. Its 'Apple Intelligence' suite—announced for iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and iPadOS 18—has had a slow rollout, with several key features still pending. With expectations mounting, the iPhone 17 launch could be a critical moment for Apple to prove it's not falling behind in the AI era.

Microsoft backs ‘Fortnite' maker Epic Games in legal feud, claims Apple ‘stymied' plans for Xbox mobile store
Microsoft has backed 'Fortnite' video game maker Epic Games in its legal battle with Apple – alleging in a new court filing that the Tim Cook-led tech giant has 'stymied' its own efforts to create an Xbox mobile store. In an amicus brief filed late Tuesday in California federal court, Microsoft said Apple's restrictions had prevented it from 'launching its own online store' and argued the injunction against Apple should be enforced even during the appeal process. 'The district court's injunction allows Apple to maintain its in-app exclusivity but at least should have enabled Microsoft to offer consumers a workable solution by launching its own online store — accessible via link-out — for in-app items to be purchased off-app and used in games or other apps,' attorneys for Microsoft said, according to The Verge. 4 Microsoft said Apple had 'stymied' its plans for an Xbox mobile store. vfhnb12 – 'That is what Microsoft wants to do. But even this solution has been stymied by Apple,' the filing added. Apple is already facing major heat from US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who referred the firm for potential criminal charges from the Justice Department for willfully violating a 2021 injunction requiring it to ease restrictions on third-party app developers. Apple has asked for a temporary stay pending its appeal of the contempt ruling, arguing it could lose 'billions' if it remains in place. Rogers demanded on Tuesday that Apple explain why it had not complied with the court-ordered injunction and warned that the Apple official 'personally responsible for ensuring compliance' would need to appear in court on May 27 if the matter wasn't resolved. Microsoft noted that the injunction is also necessary to proceed with plans to add new features on the primary Xbox app for Apple customers. 'Similarly, Microsoft has long sought to enable Xbox app users on iOS to both buy and stream games in the app from the cloud or their other devices,' Microsoft said in the filing. 'Apple's policies have restricted Microsoft's ability to offer these functionalities together; the injunction allows Microsoft to explore this possibility.' 4 Apple and Epic Games are in the middle of a years-long legal feud. REUTERS Representatives for Microsoft and Apple did not immediately return requests for comment. Meanwhile, 'Fortnite' returned to the App Store after a nearly five-year ban on Tuesday – weeks after Rogers first publicly blasted Apple for noncompliance on April 30. In her April 30 ruling, Rogers said Cook 'chose poorly' by directing employees to defy the previous injunction and that vice president of finance Alex Roman had 'outright lied' under oath. 4 Apple CEO Tim Cook is pictured. Fortnite was originally banned from Apple's App Store in 2020 for policy violations related to in-app payments, kicking off the years-long legal feud between the two tech giants.

Tim Cook wants to beat Meta at its own game, Apple's smart glasses could be ready by 2027: Report
Apple is working on a new chip that will act as the brain for its future smart devices, including its first smart glasses, more powerful Macbooks and artificial intelligence servers, according to a Bloomberg report. The Cupertino-based tech giant is said to have made progress on the chip it is developing for its smart glasses. The new processor for these smart glasses is said to be inspired by the chips used in the Apple Watch, which consume less power than the parts used in other Apple products such as the iPhone, iPad and Mac. Apple is said to have tweaked the chip to remove some parts to improve power efficiency, while also designing it to control multiple cameras. The Tim Cook-led company is reportedly planning to mass produce these processors by the end of 2027, and if successful, new Apple smart glasses could be released in the next two years. The new glasses would be in direct competition with the Ray Ban smart glasses developed by Meta. Apple has reportedly been planning to develop smart glasses for years. The original idea was to use augmented reality to superimpose media, notifications and apps on top of the real world view, but this idea is said to be years away from being practical. Meanwhile, Apple is now planning to jump into the non-AR smart glasses market to compete with Meta, and has also conducted user studies with employees on the concept. The non-AR glasses would reportedly use cameras to scan the environment and rely on AI to assist users. With its AI capabilities already being questioned with iOS 18 rollout, Apple is looking to improve its technology before launching the new smart glasses. Aside from the smart glasses, Apple is also said to be working on adding cameras to AirPods and smartwatches in a bid to turn these devices into AI products. For the camera-equipped Apple Watch, the company is developing a chip called Nevis, while the AirPods would have a similar component called Glennie. The tech giant is also working on many new Mac chips which could be known as M6 (codenamed Komodo) and M7 (codenamed Borneo). There is also a more advanced processor in development dubbed Sotra. Notably, Apple could bring out its M5 processor with the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro by the end of this year.
