Apple WWDC 2025 keynote tonight: How to watch live in India, start time, and more
Apple will be kicking off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) today on Monday, June 9, with a keynote address starting from 10:30 PM IST.
The WWDC stage is often used by Apple to share the latest software updates and new consumer features that the tech giant has been working on. This rarely includes hardware-related announcements, unless it involves Vision Pro or Apple Silicon. To be sure, the unveiling of the latest iteration of the iPhone is expected to happen in September this year.
With that out of the way, here's what you can expect from WWDC 2025, how you can watch, and the top WWDC rumours about what Apple has up its sleeve.
Monday's keynote is going to be livestreamed on Monday, June 9, starting from 10:30 PM IST onwards. You can watch the keynote live either directly on Apple's website or by visiting the company's official YouTube channel. You can also follow along with The Indian Express' live blog in case you don't want to miss out on any updates during the event.
Right after the keynote, we will also be bringing you breakdowns and in-depth coverage of the biggest reveals from WWDC 2025 as well as what they signal about Apple's ambitions in the high-stakes AI race.
One of the biggest announcements to come out of WWDC 2025 will be the revamped design of iOS as well as a new naming convention, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Instead of naming the latest version of the operating system iOS 19, after iOS 18, the company is likely to skip ahead to iOS 26 which will be followed by iOS 27, iOS 28, iOS 29, etc, in the future.
Apple is also expected to announce a major shift in the aesthetics of its software in order to make the visual elements more consistent across the company's myriad products like the Vision Pro, Apple Watch, iPad, and more.
The Tim Cook-led company is also expected to take another shot at social gaming by introducing a new pre-installed gaming app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV devices.
Finally, Apple is also expected to open up access to its foundational AI models. This means that third-party software developers and researchers could get access to the company's large language models (LLMs) in order to build features within apps for iPhones and other Apple devices.
At WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled Apple Intelligence—a suite of AI features—and announced a revamped Siri powered by ChatGPT. However, the rollout has been sluggish, the features are limited, and the promised Siri revamp has been delayed indefinitely with the company reportedly stating that it needs more development and testing before release.
Hence, the generative AI redo of Apple's voice assistant is highly unlikely to be among the software surprises planned for WWDC 2025. But that doesn't necessarily mean WWDC 2025 will be without its share of AI as the company is still expected to make announcements related to developer-focused AI tools, features, and integrations. For instance, rumours suggest that it might unveil a new AI-powered tracker designed to help extend an iPhone's battery life.
As for hardware surprises, Apple's refreshed lineup of smartphones and other gadgets are expected to be announced at an event later this year.

Apple sued, investors say company mislead them with Siri hype tanking iPhone sales and stock
Apple was sued on Friday by shareholders in a proposed securities fraud class action that accused it of downplaying how long it needed to integrate advanced artificial intelligence into its Siri voice assistant, hurting iPhone sales and its stock complaint covers shareholders who suffered potentially hundreds of billions of dollars of losses in the year ending June 9, when Apple introduced several features and aesthetic improvements for its products but kept AI changes did not immediately respond to requests for comment. CEO Tim Cook, Chief Financial Officer Kevan Parekh and former CFO Luca Maestri are also defendants in the lawsuit filed in San Francisco federal court. Shareholders led by Eric Tucker said that at its June 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple led them to believe AI would be a key driver of iPhone 16 devices, when it launched Apple Intelligence to make Siri more powerful and they said the Cupertino, California-based company lacked a functional prototype of AI-based Siri features, and could not reasonably believe the features would ever be ready for iPhone said the truth began to emerge on March 7 when Apple delayed some Siri upgrades to 2026, and continued through this year's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9 when Apple's assessment of its AI progress disappointed shares have lost nearly one-fourth of their value since their December 26, 2024 record high, wiping out approximately $900 billion of market case is Tucker v. Apple executives held internal talks about buying perplexity: Report
Apple executives have held internal talks about potentially bidding for artificial intelligence startup Perplexity, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing people with knowledge of the matter. The discussions are at an early stage and may not lead to an offer, the report said, adding that the tech behemoth's executives have not discussed a bid with Perplexity's management. "We have no knowledge of any current or future M&A discussions involving Perplexity," Perplexity said in response to a Reuters' request for comment. Apple did not immediately respond to a Reuters' request for comment. Big tech companies are doubling down on investments to enhance AI capabilities and support growing demand for AI-powered services to maintain competitive leadership in the rapidly evolving tech landscape. Bloomberg News also reported on Friday that Meta Platforms tried to buy Perplexity earlier this year. Meta announced a $14.8 billion investment in Scale AI last week and hired Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang to lead its new superintelligence unit. Adrian Perica, Apple's head of mergers and acquisitions, has weighed the idea with services chief Eddy Cue and top AI decision-makers, as per the report. The iPhone maker reportedly plans to integrate AI-driven search capabilities - such as Perplexity AI - into its Safari browser, potentially moving away from its longstanding partnership with Alphabet's Google . Banning Google from paying companies to make it their default search engine is one of the remedies proposed by the U.S. Department of Justice to break up its dominance in online search. While traditional search engines such as Google still dominate global market share, AI-powered search options including Perplexity and ChatGPT are gaining prominence and seeing rising user adoption, especially among younger generations. Perplexity recently completed a funding round that valued it at $14 billion, Bloomberg News reported. A deal close to that would be Apple's largest acquisition so far. The Nvidia-backed startup provides AI search tools that deliver information summaries to users, similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

Apple Weighs Potential Bid for AI Startup Perplexity Amid Growing Industry Interest
Apple Inc. is reportedly exploring the possibility of acquiring Perplexity, a fast-rising artificial intelligence startup, as part of its broader push into AI-powered search technologies. According to Bloomberg News, internal discussions have taken place among senior Apple executives, although no formal offer has been made and the talks remain at an early stage. The report suggests that Adrian Perica, Apple's head of mergers and acquisitions, has informally discussed the potential deal with services chief Eddy Cue and top AI strategists. However, sources indicated that Perplexity's leadership has not yet been approached, and Apple has not issued any public comment on the matter. In response to media inquiries, Perplexity stated it is unaware of any ongoing or upcoming M&A discussions. This news comes on the heels of mounting interest from other tech giants in Perplexity. Meta Platforms also reportedly explored acquiring the startup earlier this year, underscoring the growing competition in AI-driven search. Meta recently committed $14.8 billion to Scale AI and appointed its CEO Alexandr Wang to head a new superintelligence division, reinforcing the urgency among tech giants to secure AI talent and infrastructure. Founded with backing from Nvidia, Perplexity is valued at $14 billion following a recent funding round. Its core offering is an AI search tool that delivers concise, context-aware answers to users, positioning it as a strong alternative to traditional search engines like Google. As Apple considers enhancing its Safari browser with AI search capabilities, integrating technology similar to Perplexity could serve as a major step in reducing its dependency on Alphabet's Google—currently Safari's default search engine. The U.S. Department of Justice has proposed regulatory measures to curb Google's search monopoly, including banning it from paying companies to secure default search status. This regulatory backdrop may accelerate Apple's shift toward developing or acquiring in-house search solutions. While the traditional search market remains dominated by Google, new AI-powered platforms like Perplexity and OpenAI's ChatGPT are rapidly gaining traction, especially among younger users who favor faster, more intuitive information delivery. If Apple moves forward with an acquisition close to Perplexity's reported valuation, it could mark the company's largest-ever deal—a sign of how seriously the iPhone maker is taking the AI arms race.
