Where Auburn star Johni Broome lands in latest ESPN projection, one week before NBA draft

Where Auburn star Johni Broome lands in latest ESPN projection, one week before NBA draft Here's what ESPN is saying about Broome's draft stock less than one week from the draft. Following Tahaad Pettiford's decision to withdraw from NBA draft consideration, all attention turns toward Johni Broome and where he ends up in this year's draft. Broome continues to receive second-round draft status, with the most recent forecast coming from ESPN. ESPN's latest mock pairs Broome with the Washington Wizards at No. 40 overall, and he is the lone Tiger in this mock pieced together by Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo. Broome worked out with several NBA franchises, including the Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks, and Golden State Warriors. However, the Wizards were not among those who met with the Auburn star during pre-draft workouts. However, trade rumors involving Jordan Poole could result in the Wizards taking on more talent through the draft, which is where Broome could come into play. Broome said in a recent interview that he is willing to play for any team that takes a chance on him. 'I'm going to keep going, playing basketball and finding ways to win for my team and find ways to get it done," Broome said. "Whoever picks me will get a good player, a dog, somebody who's going to contribute to winning.' Broome will learn his NBA draft fate next week as the NBA draft begins next Wednesday, June 25. What the tiger and the dog learned in the well

Down in Jungleland now brings you an exclusive on what exactly transpired in the well, into which a tiger and dog fell recently, and were later rescued. Excerpts from their conversation: Tiger: You idiot! Don't you see where you're going? You ran straight into this stinking compost pit! Dog: You're a bigger idiot! You followed me! That's what happens when you chase dogs! By the way, Jim Corbett called you 'a large, hearted gentleman!' Tiger: Primarily because none of us were able to eat him! Dog: Are you hungry? Tiger: Can't you see I have a face-full of porcupine quills? And anyway I have no appetite for dog meat. Dog: Good, we're not supposed to be flavourful when eaten raw. And can pass on canine-distemper which killed hundreds of lions in Serengeti and Gir. Not to mention rabies. I might just have that… so just keep a safe distance! Do you have a mask? Tiger: You spread rabies around and they call you 'man's best friend!' Humans! Dog: They are fools. Some will throw birthday parties for you, call themselves 'pet parents' (how gross is that!) slobber all over you, and others will throw rocks at you and put you down if you don't belong to a human family! Tiger: You think you've got a bad deal? Look at us: Schedule I in the Wildlife (Protection) Act which means Z+ class security yet they bulldoze our homelands and then get upset when we take down their dumbass livestock because the deer have all starved! Dog: Well, they did look after that injured tigress in Ranthambore, fed her and treated her and she's now back on her feet, hunting. Tiger: (rolling his eyes): And her cubs got so spoiled as a result, they never learned to hunt and they are now throwing tantrums and snatching people and giving all of us a bad name. They want to be taken to five star restaurants for every meal and be served roast venison and Carbonnade de Boeuf. Dog: (Scratching his ear) Umm, is it true that in some countries they eat your unmentionables and other parts, in the hope that will make them virile? Tiger: Doggo, it's much worse than that: They farm us! As if we were goats or cattle and they wear our skins! Can you imagine doing that? Dog: (shuddering) Eww! And they are supposed to be the most intelligent of all living creatures. Right on top of the food chain. Tiger: Put one unarmed fellow in front of me and I'll show you who's on top of the food chain in five seconds. Dog: (Grinning cheekily) Bro, at the moment we're at the bottom of a compost pit! Tiger: (Glaring) Thanks to you know who… Dog: So what's the plan now? I howl and you roar so we can wake them up? Tiger: No! It's still dark and they'll panic and think we are bhoots and chudails and kill us both! Let them wake up and have their chai and go to the bogs first! Dog: Wonder how they'll get us out of here…you especially. Me, I can be ingratiating, wag my tail and whine: you know, do what politicians do when they want to switch parties. They'll lift me out for sure, but you… Tiger: (Slitting his eyes) We, big cats, don't do ingratiating… Dog: But you can purr. And I once saw several of your kind sitting on stools in a circus with your paws up while a dude in spangled underwear cracked his whip at them. Kind of cute. Tiger (Flintily): Look bro, I'm not a pussycat or circus cat! And I don't do cute either! Dog: (Grinning cheekily) But right now you are a pussy in a well… Tiger: (Rising, and snarling) What did you just say? Dog: Cool your jets, just teasing. Where's your sense of humour? Honestly you're just like humans with their wet tissue sentiments… Ready to lynch at a moment's notice! Tiger (shaking his shaggy head): Maybe they are to blame! I just don't get it: There are around 4,000 of us and 1.4 billion of them and they get on our case every time! We kill 40 or 50 of them every year, usually by accident and they come after us with rifles! Their vehicles kill 800 of them every day and are allowed free rein. They should be letting loose their BrahMos missiles at them. Dog: Yes. I've escaped getting run over several times too… You know, maybe we're safest down here. If only there was food and water. Tiger: (shaking his head) A tiger and a dog living together in a hole? What would everyone say? Besides I need my freedom and to hunt and hunting you down here is not kosher at all. Dog: I should hope not! Okay bro, I think it's time we made a noise now. I'm going to bark, you can snarl and roar. (Sure enough, they were discovered by shocked locals and a rescue mission was set afoot. But down in the hole when the two looked up this is what they saw) Dog: OMG. They've got guns. They're going to shoot us after all! Tiger: Farewell my friend. At least we got to spend some quality time together! (It is unlikely the pair will ever meet again. The tiger was released in the Periyar Tiger Reserve and the dog in the surrounding area. They were stuck in one small pit and did not harm each other. This is one beautiful blue planet).

Detroit Tigers reliever Will Vest avoids injured list after 'scary' situation with finger

Detroit Tigers right-handed reliever Will Vest has avoided the injured list. The 30-year-old, who leads the Tigers with 12 saves, felt discomfort in his right pinky finger in the eighth inning Sunday, June 15, against the Cincinnati Reds at Comerica Park. He exited the game alongside a trainer after throwing a wild pitch. Advertisement But Vest won't miss an extended period of time. "I don't know what it was, other than I'm glad to get the news on the off day that everything checked out," manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday, June 17, before the opener of a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. "We'll go day-to-day and see what he can do for us, but I was very thankful that it sounds like we've avoided anything more major." NEW FACE: Tigers claim Carlos Hernández off waivers from Phillies to join MLB roster Detroit Tigers pitcher Will Vest (19) celebrates 3-1 win over Chicago Cubs at Comerica Park in Detroit on Friday, June 6, 2025. 125 seasons of the Tigers in our new book! Vest underwent tests after leaving Sunday's game. The Tigers evaluated the results. Advertisement It was positive news. "On the last pitch, I felt something zing a little bit in my fingers," Vest said Tuesday, just two days after the injury. "I lost a little bit of feeling in the bottom two (fingers). We were just being pretty cautious. We went to get some tests. Thankfully, everything was good." Vest has a 2.57 ERA with nine walks and 37 strikeouts across 35 innings in 32 games, racking up 12 saves in 15 opportunities. He has produced 0.9 fWAR, which is tied for 14th among 182 qualified relievers in the big leagues. The next best Tiger is right-handed reliever Brenan Hanifee, tied for 63rd with 0.4 fWAR. JEFF SEIDEL: Big improvement of Tigers prospect sign of something much bigger Advertisement This is Vest's fifth MLB season. His 26.6% strikeout rate ranks in the 76th percentile among MLB pitchers, while his 6.5% walk rate ranks in the 75th percentile. He also induces ground balls at an elite 59.1% clip, ranking in the 96th percentile. Vest is the Tigers' best reliever. "It's uncommon," Vest said. "You don't feel that on every pitch. There are a lot of emotions going on during that, but you have to do your best to calm down and not freak out." The Tigers employ a two-closer system with Vest and fellow righty reliever Tommy Kahnle, combining for 20 saves — Vest with 12, Kahnle with 8. Vest owns a 2.81 ERA over the past three seasons, spanning 153⅔ innings in 149 games. He has improved his performance in each of the three seasons, posting a 2.98 ERA in 2023, a 2.82 ERA in 2024 and a 2.57 ERA in 2025. Advertisement "There's a difference between being sore and being hurt," said Vest, who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2016 while pitching for his alma mater, Stephen F. Austin. "As a pitcher, you learn how to pitch through soreness. When there's something different that you haven't dealt with in the past, then it can kind of alarm you a little bit. I think that's what I went through. I wanted to make sure everything was OK." Contact Evan Petzold at epetzold@ or follow him @EvanPetzold. CBS Sports believes Jackson Arnold will 'silence critics' this fall at Auburn

CBS Sports believes Jackson Arnold will 'silence critics' this fall at Auburn CBS Sports believes that Jackson Arnold will make the most of his new situation at Auburn. Auburn football will have a strong, experienced offensive line and a wide receiver unit that rivals the best in the nation. All it needs is a quarterback that can lead the offense and play at a high, consistent level. Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers may have found their guy in Jackson Arnold, a transfer from Oklahoma. Arnold passed for over 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2025 with the Sooners, but he never had the opportunity to lead the offense consistently due to several factors beyond his control. Now that Arnold is a Tiger, CBS Sports believes that the college football world will see him reach his full potential. Carter Bahns of CBS Sports included Arnold in his list of quarterbacks that could 'silence critics' in 2025 by having a breakout season. Bahns sees Arnold's situation at Auburn as the complete opposite of what he had in Norman, which could lead to a special year for the Tigers. There might not be a better buy-low candidate in college football than Arnold. He massively upgraded his situation with the transfer from Oklahoma to Auburn, trading a porous offensive line and injury-riddled receiving corps for a supporting cast that features some of the best wideouts in the nation. So many of Arnold's struggles in his first year as a starter can be attributed to factors outside of his control. It is hard not to envision him taking a step forward with his new team. Auburn will look to provide more security to Arnold this season. Last year at Oklahoma, Arnold was pressured 132 times, with 36 of those pressures being registered as sacks. He was pressured 10 or more times in six games last year, and 20 or more times in three games. This was due mostly to the inconsistency at the offensive line last season, where three positions saw three players participate in over 150 snaps at each position. At left tackle, for instance, three players played at least 198 snaps, while three Oklahoma centers played 164 snaps or more. Arnold was a solid passer as well on passes between 10-19 yards, where he completed 50% of his passes for 292 yards and seven touchdowns. He will have a variety of receivers who can make plays from various depths on the field as well. Eric Singleton is a threat both behind the line of scrimmage and from deep, while Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons are reliable targets on deep routes.
