Arnold Schwarzenegger Thinks THE RUNNING MAN Remake Could Actually Be Better Than His 1987 Film — GeekTyrant
Arnold Schwarzenegger is the first to admit his The Running Man adaptation had room for improvement. While promoting FUBAR Season 2 in a new interview with Grae Drake for CBR Presents: DRAW!, the action legend opened up about the 1987 cult sci-fi film and his honest take on the upcoming Edgar Wright remake. Schwarzenegger said of the original film: 'It was great, but it could have been better. I think it would have been great if we would have been better prepared for this movie, if we would have had more money… the visual effects, the technology of visual effects, that they have today, all of those things I wished after the movie came out.' As for the remake, Schwarzenegger seems genuinely hopeful it will take the concept to the next level. 'I love the idea that they're doing a sequel to Running Man, or a remake. I don't know what it's going to be…I think that they have a good chance now with the new Running Man to make it better. And I hope, for their sake and for my sake, I hope that they will be successful.' The original film, directed by Paul Michael Glaser and based loosely on the Stephen King novel written under the Richard Bachman pseudonym, followed Ben Richards (Schwarzenegger), a wrongly convicted man forced to survive a deadly game show for entertainment. The cast included Maria Conchita Alonso, Jesse Ventura, Yaphet Kotto, and Richard Dawson in a truly unhinged performance as the game's host. Now, Edgar Wright is stepping into the arena, bringing his signature style to the remake. Co-written with Michael Bacall, the film stars Glen Powell as Richards, joined by a wild ensemble including Katy O'Brian, Michael Cera, Lee Pace, Josh Brolin, William H. Macy, and Colman Domingo. With today's tech, a bigger budget, and Wright behind the camera, the world The Running Man with its dystopian media, violent spectacle, corporate control feels even more relevant now. The idea that this remake could tap into that with more bite is pretty exciting. The Running Man remake is set to hit theaters on November 7, 2025.

In Glasgow, filming has been ongoing in and around Bothwell Street. A row of shops near the corner with Blythswood Street has been transformed. Futuristic signage has been erected and a false brick wall has been put up on the side of Launch Coffee. Shooting has also been taking place on Newton Street under the Kingston Bridge, between the Broomielaw and Argyle Street. Last week, Star Wars and Star Trek director Abrams was seen on set in Edinburgh. And yesterday, Powell was spotted dressed in a trench coat and scarf with what appeared to be his stunt double. The actor, 36, was in the city last November during the filming of the dystopian thriller The Running Man, which will be released later this year. A futuristic subway carriage or hover bus-type vehicle was seen on set, on the back of a flatbed lorry. British cinematographer James Friend was also busy working alongside dozens of crew members and extras. Hollywood hunk Glen Powell braves Glasgow weather with 'bizarre' warm-up on set of 80s remake In Edinburgh, trucks emblazoned with the Warner Bros logo were seen around the city's streets. Filming spots included Advocate's Close, Borthwick's Close, Fleshmarket Close, Mary King's Close, Old Assembly Close and Parliament Square. Shooting wrapped up in the capital on June 13. Ghostwriter will star Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey and Hollywood royalty Samuel L. Jackson. The script has been kept under wraps but the film is understood to centre around a fantasy author who finds that the mythical world he imagined is real. The upcoming flick is expected to be a mix of retro sci-fi and fantasy. Scotland has become a hotbed for big-budget movie productions in recent years. Avengers, The Batman, James Bond: Skyfall, Prometheus, Under the Skin, and World War Z were all partly filmed in the country. Other renowned films to have been shot in Scotland are The Da Vinci Code, Harry Potter and Outlaw King. We previously told how the Scottish movie and TV industry was on course to generate £1billion a year for the economy. Screen Scotland believes it will hit a 10-figure turnover by the end of 2030/31 and major productions continue to film north of the border. In March, it emerged that the US animation company Halon Entertainment was looking to open a £28million studio in Glasgow. 7 Ghostwriter is directed by blockbuster filmmaker J.J. Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell spotted in Glasgow as JJ Abrams blockbuster transforms city
Filming for the latest JJ Abrams film, Ghostwriter, has taken over the streets with Hollywood stars Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega spotted Once again the streets of Scotland have been transformed into a film set for a new Hollywood blockbuster. Filming for the new sci-fi movie Ghostwriter has taken over the streets of Glasgow, with both Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega spotted in the city. Crew, production and film props were seen across the city yesterday (June 17) completely transforming the area into a movie set. Ghostwriter directed by J.J Abrams, known for creating several hit TV series like Lost, and blockbuster films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Details about the movie remain under wraps, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, film icon Samuel L Jackson is set to play a major role in the new production. It's reported the film, Abram's first since his 2019 Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, is inspired by The Last Starfighter - a 1984 space movie about a video game player who is recruited to join an interstellar battle against alien forces. Several road closures were announced to accommodate the Warner Bros production and will continue to film until June 23, when production will finish filming in Glasgow. The crew previously filmed scenes in Edinburgh. Glasgow is said to be doubling as a futuristic New York for the movie, which will also feature Sex Education actress Emma Mackey. On Tuesday, Top Gun star Powell was spotted in the city centre of Glasgow, on Finnieston Street, beneath the Kingston Bridge. Filming then moved to Douglas Street, where photos taken by Glasgow Live show Powell's stunt double sprinting up the steep incline while chasing a co-star. Various sci-fi style vehicles, with quirky colours and in various shapes and sizes, were also positioned around the city, as well as various different futurist signs and lights scattered around the streets. Powell is no stranger to filming in Scotland, having recently shot Edgar Wright's reboot of the 1987 action movie The Running Man in November last year. The star was seen in various parts of Glasgow, and even spent the evening in The Locale pub in the city centre for the wrap party. The 36 year old was happy to take photos with locals, with the staff of the pub taking to Instagram to thank the cast and crew for the party. They shared a photograph of Powell and a worker on Instagram, alongside the caption: "Massive thanks to the Running Man crew for an amazing wrap party last night!" The Running Man is set to release in November of this year and also stars Josh Brolin, William H. Macy, Michael Cera, and Marvel star Katy O'Brian.
