Filming for the latest JJ Abrams film, Ghostwriter, has taken over the streets with Hollywood stars Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega spotted
Once again the streets of Scotland have been transformed into a film set for a new Hollywood blockbuster. Filming for the new sci-fi movie Ghostwriter has taken over the streets of Glasgow, with both Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega spotted in the city.
Crew, production and film props were seen across the city yesterday (June 17) completely transforming the area into a movie set. Ghostwriter directed by J.J Abrams, known for creating several hit TV series like Lost, and blockbuster films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Details about the movie remain under wraps, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, film icon Samuel L Jackson is set to play a major role in the new production.

It's reported the film, Abram's first since his 2019 Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, is inspired by The Last Starfighter - a 1984 space movie about a video game player who is recruited to join an interstellar battle against alien forces.
Several road closures were announced to accommodate the Warner Bros production and will continue to film until June 23, when production will finish filming in Glasgow.
The crew previously filmed scenes in Edinburgh.

Glasgow is said to be doubling as a futuristic New York for the movie, which will also feature Sex Education actress Emma Mackey.
On Tuesday, Top Gun star Powell was spotted in the city centre of Glasgow, on Finnieston Street, beneath the Kingston Bridge.

Filming then moved to Douglas Street, where photos taken by Glasgow Live show Powell's stunt double sprinting up the steep incline while chasing a co-star.
Various sci-fi style vehicles, with quirky colours and in various shapes and sizes, were also positioned around the city, as well as various different futurist signs and lights scattered around the streets.

Powell is no stranger to filming in Scotland, having recently shot Edgar Wright's reboot of the 1987 action movie The Running Man in November last year.
The star was seen in various parts of Glasgow, and even spent the evening in The Locale pub in the city centre for the wrap party.
The 36 year old was happy to take photos with locals, with the staff of the pub taking to Instagram to thank the cast and crew for the party. They shared a photograph of Powell and a worker on Instagram, alongside the caption: "Massive thanks to the Running Man crew for an amazing wrap party last night!"
The Running Man is set to release in November of this year and also stars Josh Brolin, William H. Macy, Michael Cera, and Marvel star Katy O'Brian.

Rebel's Romance digs deep for Hardwicke honours

Favourite backers will have had few concerns, with Rebel's Romance travelling strongly throughout and he found plenty up the straight to score comfortably by a length and three-quarters from Al Riffa, with Ghostwriter third. Appleby, who had not saddled a Royal Ascot winner since 2022 and had seen well-fancied horses like Notable Speech, Ruling Court, Cinderella's Dream and Treanmor beaten this week, was relieved to get himself into the big-race winner's enclosure. REBEL'S ROMANCE wins The Hardwicke Stakes for Charlie Appleby. Congratulations to connections. — Ascot Racecourse (@Ascot) June 21, 2025 'Rebel's Romance is a worldwide superstar. I've got a picture of this fellow on my bedside table. He means that much to us all,' said the Moulton Paddocks handler. 'He's the only horse I know that you can take to Hong Kong and he'll get you into any bar and restaurant! You can get in anywhere on the back of Rebel's Romance. 'As William says, he's his best friend and they have that great rapport there. You couldn't get two more willing partners together. 'I have to give credit to the team at home. When you have an older horse, to keep them sound and keep them going, for him to have his enthusiasm year after year at this level. 'As they get older they all taper, as we all do, that's expected. He might get a bit slower but his enthusiasm and his heart does not falter one iota.' Rebel's Romance and William Buick return to the winner's enclosure (John Walton/PA) Reflecting on the week, Appleby added: 'You can come here thinking you're fully loaded and have great chances, and you can walk away with excuses, but that's racing. I would like to think that we compose ourselves well, we take it on the chin and then we look forward to moving on. 'Once something comes to Rebel's Romance, he finds. You very rarely get a horse that when it gets into the red, he still goes. 'If there was one horse that you were having to roll your last dice on in this game, it was going to be him. Win, lose or draw he's going to go out there and go out on his sword for you.' Joseph O'Brien was proud of the performance of runner-up Al Riffa, saying: 'Fantastic run, probably unlucky to meet a horse like Rebel's Romance in that race, but we're very proud of our horse, who is a real star for us and he's run his legs off for us again today. 'Hopefully there will be plenty more big days with him to come this season. He's a beautiful horse and he always runs to a rating not too far off 120, and it's hard to find horses like that. 'I wouldn't be against trying a little bit further with him – he's got plenty of stamina in his pedigree. I think we'll probably think outside the box with him a little bit now.' The Clive Cox-trained Ghostwriter was sold for £2million on the eve of the Royal meeting and shaped with plenty of encouragement in his first start in the Amo Racing colours. Kia Joorabchian now owns Ghostwriter (Mike Egerton/PA) Owner Kia Joorabchian said: 'That was the first time at that trip (mile and a half) and I think he has handled that trip very well. 'I'm definitely not disappointed because probably that's one of his best runs ever. Clearly he's got very strong heart and I think he's going to give us a lot of fun.' On what the future holds for the four-year-old, he added: 'He like the (fast) ground so maybe somewhere like America, Australia, those kinds of places he'd relish. 'No decisions from us, but we are very pleased with his run and I think he's managed to prove that the amount that we invested in him was worth it. 'Of course you'd like to win, but being beaten by a horse that has won the Sheema Classic, the Breeders' Cup, big races in Qatar, that horse is a massive horse and I'm happy for Charlie – he's broken his duck before me!'

Meghan Markle's brand As Ever sells out in minutes but fans are skeptical

Some fans have accused the Duchess of playing the 'sold out' game with her products. Meghan Markle took to social media to share her delight as her As Ever products once again sold out in minutes. However, some fans are sceptical - with some suggesting the Duchess of Sussex is playing the 'sold out' game. In an Instagram story shared yesterday, Meghan could be seen telling her followers that she 'couldn't believe' that nearly all of her items had sold out - even the flower sprinkles which she said she knew would be a hit once again with customers. ‌ She said that her team at As Ever 'spent time' making sure they had enough stock for the new sale, so customers could get their hands on a new honey and an apricot spread. ‌ On top of this, the Duchess also did a restock of six items from her initial sale, which was said to 'fly off the shelves' two months ago. In the post, the mum of two said: "We spent so much time making sure we had so much more inventory. That's why we took the time and you guys are doing it again. We are nearly sold out on everything. '"And I can't believe it - even flower sprinkles which I knew would be the big one again. So that has more inventory than all of it and that is also about to sell out." While many fans may have been waiting in anticipation of the restock and new products, others were a bit more dubious about how quickly the stock was said to have sold out on Friday. On social media, one person said: "She is playing the 'sold out' game and thinking we are all stupid. You fool no one Meghan Markle." ‌ With a second person adding: "Wait the only new thing she dropped was the apricot spread. And it sold out after 20 mins. Meghan must think people are really stupid." A third user also commented: "Wow they have super small quantities. The apricot and tea already sold out." ‌ While fans noticed the new apricot spread and honey within yesterday's sale, those waiting for Meghan's new Napa Valley rose wine will need to wait until July 1 for it to be available. This rose is Meghan's first step into the wine market and the wine is said to be sourced up the west coast from her Montecito mansion in California. Described by her brand as having "soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality and a lasting finish", this "bespoke blend" is said to be launching just in time for some summer entertaining. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! In Meghan's first sale, she launched nine As Ever products, which included a raspberry spread that came in a keepsake packaging or in a normal jar, flower sprinkles, wildflower honey with honeycomb, a crepe mix, a shortbread cookie mix and three herbal teas - lemon ginger, peppermint and hibiscus. All of these products were said to have sold out in 45 minutes after their initial release. For the restock, the Duchess brought back the three herbal teas, the flower sprinkles, crepe mix and shortbread cookie mix. Before Friday's sale, Meghan said: "We are pleased to share that many favourites from our debut As Ever collection are back – and, we've added something new. We hope you find some special treats that bring extra joy to you and your loved ones."
