Drive-in cinema coming to seven Welsh locations - here's what you can see Classics including Back to the Future and Pretty Woman will be screened What a typical Wonder Cinema open air cinema event looks like Seven areas of Wales will have outdoor and drive-in film events to look forward to over the summer, with a full schedule of events planned. Wonder Cinema has announced it will be hosting events in Blaenavon, Bridgend, Blackwood, Newport, Ebbw Vale, Neath and Bridgend between June and August. Each event in the calendar will either feature an open air experience, or a drive-in experience, with a singing performance, interactive game, or fire performer as part of the event. There will also be food and drink available from local businesses, along with popcorn, candy floss and face painting. Films on the schedule are classics including The Greatest Showman, Mamma Mia, Top Gun, Back to the Future, Pretty Woman, Twin Town, Wicked, Dirty Dancing. There will also be showings of one of the most popular episodes of Only Fools and Horses. Here is a full schedule of the Wonder Cinema events planned and where and when they will be taking place. ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Looking for something to do for Father's Day? Searching for a Juneteenth celebration? Or maybe you are just looking for some fun over the weekend! Below are some events happening in the Rochester area: The Rochester Red Wings are home this weekend and will be facing the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp! Saturday's game starts at 6:45 p.m. and Sunday's game is at 1:05 p.m. You can buy tickets to any of the home games this week by clicking here. The 'real clay extravaganza' returns to Studio Sales Pottery in East Avon each day this weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be live pottery making demonstrations and competitions, over 20 vendors showcasing their ceramics, raffles, and more! Ever want to watch a movie outdoors? Downtown Definitely is screening movies at Parcel 5 this summer, with the first screening starting at 7 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m. Friday's movie is the Whoopi Goldberg musical comedy 'Sister Act.' Before the movie begins, there will be activities like a photo booth and face paint. Food and drinks will be served, and guests are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets. ASL interpreters will be on-site, and there will be closed captioning. 'Wicked' will be screened on July 18, and 'The Greatest Showman' will screen on August 29. The Verona Street Animal Society is holding its 19th Fast & The Furriest pet festival at Brown Square Park starting at 8 a.m. The 10K begins at 8 a.m., the 5K starts at 8:15 a.m., and the dog walk starts at 10:30 a.m. For those not racing, there will be vendors, contests, a pet vaccination clinic, a silent auction, and more! The Canandaigua Antique Show and Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Canandaigua Civic Center. Over 60 dealers will be selling furniture, jewelry, vintage clothing, and more. The Rochester Juneteenth Parade and Festival will be held at MLK Park, with the festivities going from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The parade kicks off the festivities at 11 a.m., with the festival following suit an hour later. You can expect to see live music and dancing, food, and cultural activities, all to honor the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Team Ali Gaiters will be hosting its 19th annual Clambake event from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Honeoye Falls Fireman's Training Grounds. The family-friendly event features live music, all-you-can-eat food, activities, raffles, and more. The event is to raise funds for Golisano Children's Hospital. AKOMA, Rochester's African American Women's Gospel Choir, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a scholarship concert at 6 p.m. The anniversary show will be performed at the Robin and Tim Wentworth Arts Theatre at MCC. Deep 20 is teaming up with Pat's Pigs to serve BBQ for Father's Day from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The staff will be roasting a whole pig and dishing out food, along with mimosas, beers. 'I tried the UK's new high-tech £200million trains with underfloor heating'
It's not every day that the country gets a new train. Let alone 36 of them. Happily, Monday was one of those days. On June 9, the first of 36 Class 730/2 Northwestern Railway trains opened doors to passengers for the first time. I was lucky enough to be on the test train on Friday, when it trundled out of London Euston stations, making its way roughly half an hour to Milton Keynes, where it promptly turned back around. For those who need a little more to get their blood pumping than a ride from a classic domitary settlement on a spotless commuter train, there was entertainment. Sequin jacket-wearing performers belted out tunes that might've been from The Greatest Showman, while viral pudding brand Humble Crumble served up little cardboard bowls of their sweet treat. Merlin Entertainment was onboard, hiding free tickets to its attractions up in the freshly polished, see-through luggage racks (designed to make spotting bags/freebies easier) and beneath the tidily upholstered chairs. For those with a deeper appreciation of a good train, then Great Northwestern delivered some tantalizing figures. The 730 Class consists of 84 trains and 324 carriages. An average three-carriage train has 199 seats, while the five-carry configuration takes 406. For the 36 Class 730/2 trains specifically, north of £200million has been splashed out. It will run on Cross City Line routes from Lichfield to Birmingham and Redditch, linking Walsall and Wolverhampton and Rugeley to Birmingham International. At its fastest, the train rattles along at 90 mph, powered by electric engines. London Northwestern has tweaked the classic train design a little to give the impression of more space. The gangways have been left open, giving a "more spacious feel", while extra room has been allocated to bike storage - although "up to three" bikes will do little more than remind cyclists of how far we have fallen since the giddy days of bike-carriages on UK trains. For that kind of considerate fun, your best bet is heading to France, Italy or the Netherlands. Each seat has a plug and USB socket. While this is to be expected on a new train, it is still good news—so long as they actually work and don't cause your phone to glitch out, as is often the case. London Northwestern's overall investment in new trains and infrastructure (which totals three new train fleets and lots of depot upgrades) is £1billion. So what will commuters make of it? While it might not be blow anyone's mind or cause Michael Portillo to dust off his presenting boots, it is a solid train. The 730/2 does not fall into any of the classic traps. Its seats are comfortable and well upholstered (more than can be said for the likes of GWR) and its aisles are well proportioned (something Greater Anglia finds incredibly difficult for some reason). There's enough space in the seats and communal areas to give you a bit of breathing space during the morning commute, and the toilets don't talk to you, unlike the psychotic Virgin trains that used to serve this part of the country. All in all, a well-executed train. Would ride again.

Hugh Jackman brings jokes, drama and John Denver to opening night at the Hollywood Bowl
Strumming a black acoustic guitar to match his black tuxedo pants and jacket, Hugh Jackman strolled onto the stage of the Hollywood Bowl and let the audience know precisely what it was in for. 'Little bit of Neil Diamond,' he said as the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra revved up the go-go self-improvement jive of 'Crunchy Granola Suite.' A dedicated student of showbiz history, the Australian singer and actor was starting his concert Saturday night just as Diamond did half a century ago at the Greek Theatre gig famously captured on his classic 'Hot August Night' LP. Yet Diamond was just one of the flamboyant showmen Jackman aspired to emulate as he headlined the opening night of the Bowl's 2025 season. Later in the concert, the 56-year-old sang a medley of tunes by Peter Allen, the Australian songwriter and Manhattan bon vivant whom Jackman portrayed on Broadway in 2003 in 'The Boy From Oz.' And then there was P.T. Barnum, whose career as a maker of spectacle inspired the 2017 blockbuster 'The Greatest Showman,' which starred Jackman as Barnum and spawned a surprise-hit soundtrack that went quadruple-platinum. 'There's 17,000 of you, and if any of you did not see 'The Greatest Showman,' you might be thinking right now: This guy is super-confident,' Jackman told the crowd, panting ever so slightly after he sang the movie's title song, which has more than 625 million streams on Spotify. The success of 'Showman' notwithstanding, Jackman's brand of stage-and-screen razzle-dazzle feels fairly rare in pop music these days among male performers. (The theater-kid moment that helped make 'Wicked' a phenomenon was almost exclusively engineered — and has almost exclusively benefited — women such as Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Chappell Roan and Laufey.) What makes Jackman's jazz-handing even more remarkable is that to many he's best known as the extravagantly mutton-chopped Wolverine character from the Marvel movies. Before Jackman's performance on Saturday, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Wilkins, played a brief set of orchestral music that included selections from John Ottman's score for 'X2: X-Men United.' The ascent of Benson Boone, with his mustache and his backflips, suggests that Jackman may yet find inheritors to carry on the tradition he himself was bequeathed by Diamond and the rest. But of course that assumes that Jackman is looking to pass the baton, which was not at all the impression you got from his spirited and athletic 90-minute show at the Bowl. In addition to stuff from 'The Greatest Showman' and a swinging tribute to Frank Sinatra, he did a second Diamond tune — 'Sweet Caroline,' naturally, which he said figures into an upcoming movie in which he plays a Diamond impersonator — and a couple of Jean Valjean's numbers from 'Les Misérables,' which Jackman sang in the 2012 movie adaptation that earned him an Academy Award nomination for lead actor. (With an Emmy, a Grammy and two Tonys to his name, he's an Oscar win away from EGOT status.) For 'You Will Be Found,' from 'Dear Evan Hansen,' he sat down behind a grand piano and accompanied himself for a bit; for the motor-mouthed 'Ya Got Trouble,' from 'The Music Man' — the first show he ever did as a high school kid, he pointed out — he came out into the crowd, weaving among the Bowl's boxes and interacting with audience members as he sang. 'I just saw a lot of friends as I went through,' he said when he returned to the stage. 'Hello, Melissa Etheridge and Linda. Hello, Jess Platt. Hi, Steph, hi, David, hi, Sophia, hi, Orlando — so many friends. Very difficult to say hello to friends and still do that dialogue.' He was panting again, this time more showily. 'It's like 53 degrees and I'm sweating.' The show's comedic centerpiece was a version of John Denver's 'Thank God I'm a Country Boy' that Jackman remade to celebrate his roots as an 'Aussie boy.' There were good-natured jokes about shark attacks and koalas and Margot Robbie, as well as a few pointed political gibes, one about how 'our leaders aren't 100 years old' — 'I'm moving on from that joke fast,' he added — and another that rhymed 'Life down under is really quite fun' with 'I never have to worry: Does that guy have a gun?' The emotional centerpiece, meanwhile, was 'Showman's' 'A Million Dreams,' for which the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra was joined by 18 members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Youth Orchestra Los Angeles. The song itself is pretty cringe, with a lyric bogged down by cliches and a melody you've heard a zillion times before. But Jackman sold its corny idealism with a huckster's sincerity you couldn't help but buy.
