Two Hong Kong restaurants have ranked in The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2025
Calling all foodies: Two of our city's best restaurants have been named in the annual World's 50 Best Restaurants 2025 list! This year's rankings were announced during a live awards ceremony held in Turin, Italy on June 19, featuring restaurants from 22 countries across five continents, with 10 new dining venues debuting on the list. This year, two Hong Kong fine-dining stalwarts made the prestigious list, both placing higher than their 2024 rankings. Following its entry as number 24 on the 2024 list, modern Cantonese restaurant Wing landed at number 11 this year and took home the Gin Mare Art of Hospitality award. As for The Chairman, one of our city's top refined Cantonese dining venues, the restaurant climbed up seven spots and is now ranked at number 19. Going by the World's 50 Best list, Hong Kong has Asia's third-best restaurant, only outranked by Bangkok's Gaggan at number 6 and Tokyo's Sézanne at number 7. Looking at entries from the rest of the world, Maido in Peru jumped four places from 2024's rankings and clinched the top spot on the list, followed by Asador Etxebarri from Spain's Atxondo region at number two and Quintonil from Mexico City at number three. This year's special mentions include Bangkok's chef Pichaya 'Pam' Soontornyanakij taking home the Best Female Chef award and her restaurant, Potong, being recognised with the Highest New Entry award; London-based Ikoyi securing the Highest Climber award after moving up 27 spots from the 2024 list; Albert Adrià from Barcelona's Enigma presented with the Estrella Damm Chefs' Choice award; as well as chef-restauranteur Massimo Bottura and partner Lara Gilmore being jointly awarded with the Woodford Reserve Icon Award. 5 minutes with ‘Best New Artist' Metro FM award winner Neo Dube
After taking home the Best New Artist award at the Metro FM Music Awards 2025, Neo Dube is poised to shake things up and cement her name in the music industry. With her latest single Indawenhle gaining traction, Neo's star is on the rise. She is a multitalented artist known for her dynamic presence as a musician, filmmaker, and PR strategist. TshisaLIVE spoke to the singer about her musical journey and more. What does winning the Best New Artist award mean to you? Winning the award is incredibly humbling. It's more than a personal achievement, it's recognition of the journey, the late nights, the self-doubt and the risks taken to be heard. It affirms that my voice and story matter. How does the recognition affect your music career and future projects? It motivates me to keep going, but with even more intention. The recognition opens doors, creates new conversations and invites collaborations I've only dreamed of. It also pushes me to be more courageous in my creative decisions. Tell us about your music style and what inspires your creativity? My sound is soulful, enriched with Afro-soul and shaped by cinematic storytelling. I'm inspired by lived experiences, my own and those around me and the spiritual and cultural rhythms of South Africa. How do you blend different genres or elements in your music? I approach music like a filmmaker would a script. Every element has to support the story. Whether it's a harmony, a jazz chord or a maskandi rhythm, I find ways to merge them authentically to evoke emotion and truth. What was the breakthrough moment in your music career, and how did it lead to the award? My breakthrough came when I released Indawenhle. The moment shifted everything. Suddenly the industry paid attention. From there, I committed to telling honest, vulnerable stories, which eventually led to the award. Can you share some highlights from your journey as a new artist? Performing at The Chairman, being featured on Vuma FM and curating my own unplugged sessions have all been highlights. But above all, connecting with people who tell me my music helped them heal, that's everything. What's next for you in terms of upcoming music releases and projects? I'm working on a debut EP that explores themes of belonging, hope and home. Each song is a conversation between past and present. We're also planning a mini-tour, with storytelling elements woven into the performances.

The world's best new restaurants in 2025, revealed
While it's nice and familiar to revisit that same restaurant that does your favourite dish over and over again, it's always good to be a bit more adventurous and try something new, too. Exciting new places to eat are launching all the time, after all, and for some fresh inspiration, Condé Nast Traveller has just unveiled its hot list of new restaurants which have opened (or reopened) over the last 12 months. One of these is Acamaya, a modern Mexican restaurant in the Bywater, New Orleans. Coincidentally, Time Out named this iconic city as the best place in the world for food in 2025 – and you can read more on that here. About the restaurant, CN Traveller writes: 'Think zippy shrimp aguachile; thick yellow discs of masa crowned with plump lump crab; and flaky fish that has been butterflied and grilled until crispy-skinned and is swimming in a pool of creamy spicy salsa – served with a side of fresh-made tortillas so you can assemble all the DIY tacos your heart (and stomach) desires.' Another new opening included is Esperit Roca, run by the Roca brothers who have been at the forefront of Catalonia's food scene over the last few years. Along with a boutique hotel and wine cellar, a former military fortress in Girona – specifically its stables – is now home to this brilliant restaurant, which has already gained a Michelin star since it opened back in November. Over in Hong Kong, Jee has been spotlighted as 'the most exciting Chinese restaurant to pop up in the territory since The Chairman.' It's a chic green and white space run by veteran chef Sui Hin-Chi and rising star Oliver Li, and though it's perched in the central district, CN Traveller writes that 'Jee's second-floor location in an office building makes it feel like a bit of a secret.' Hungry for more? Check out the rest of CN Traveller's restaurant hot list for 2025 below. World Travellers Are Revealing The Most Mind-Blowing, Worth-Every-Penny Restaurants They've Been To Around The World, And Now I'm Questioning All My Food Choices
As a loud-and-proud foodie, I'll confess the truth: I've travelled embarrassingly long distances solely for the food. And I'd do it all over again — because when a restaurant really knocks you off your feet, it's a unique experience that goes beyond words. If you don't like food or travel, I fear you're gravely missing out. And I also fear we could never be friends. So recently, I went searching on Reddit to find some restaurants that tourists can't stop thinking about — the places that may get get tons of hype, yet still seem to leave people speechless. Here are some of the places people mentioned: 1. First, "I had an absolutely phenomenal dinner at WING — it was the highlight of my Hong Kong trip. Easily one of my all-time favourite meals in the last 12 months, and that's counting several celebrated places." Plus, this restaurant was just ranked number three on the list of Asia's best restaurants of 2025. "They delivered a broad spectrum of modern Chinese dishes that are full of substance and sensibility." – vinoyvaca 2. Also in Hong Kong, " The Chairman. It's the consistent, best Cantonese food choice of many top-end Cantonese chefs in Hong Kong." And this one made it on the list, too — it was ranked the second-best restaurant in Asia this year. – New_Let_2494 3. " El Preferido de Palermo in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Milanesa a la Napolitana was really, really delicious. And I'm a big fan of McDonalds fries and thought nothing would be better than those, until I tried El Preferido's fries." "They were very crispy and a had a little tinge of sweetness to them. I miss those fries a lot." – tomsawyertravels 5. " Osteria Santo Spirito in Florence, Italy. It was one of the highlights of our trip." – nathanaz "Lasagna I still dream about." – bluelizard5555 NBC / Via 6. " Bar Cañete in Barcelona. Sat at the bar and had the best food and wine — so fun to watch the chefs in action." — thesmallestwaffle "One of the best meals I've ever it was literally next door to my hotel! We ate there twice just because it was so close, and so amazing!" — beachlvr1 7. " L'As du Fallafel, in what was once Paris's most vibrant Jewish neighborhood." "Best falafel I've ever had. I literally think wistfully about it every time I come accross a so-so falafel here in the States." 8. " Mama's Fish House in Maui, Hawaii. We only got drinks and apps because we weren't exactly planning on eating there, but next time we go we're definitely going for a full meal." — 47981247 10. " Lee Brasserie in Tallinn, Estonia." — thesirensoftitans "A million years ago I worked with the chef from Lee. A year and a bit ago, we were in Tallinn, so I messaged him out of the blue. Was treated to an absolutely sensational evening by he and the team." — MuskratGriffin 11. " Fuku Noki in Sapporo, Japan. They had a unique tomato broth soup ramen (honestly it was more reminiscent of pasta than ramen) but that rich umami creamy broth still sticks out to me until this day. The noodle texture was also just right for the broth to cling to and to give it a bite." "Honestly recommend this place for anyone looking for unique and/or pork-free ramen in Sapporo. Plus the owner was really friendly!" – yodelingllama DigiPub / Getty Images 12. " Antalya Kebab in Budapest. That kebab changed my life." — MarcellusxWallace 13. " Quán Ut Ut in Saigon, Vietnam. Street American-style BBQ with local beers and Asian heat (spice and weather…). Best ribs I've ever tasted." — polymath77 14. "The scallops at Andina, a Peruvian restaurant in Portland, Oregon." — thriftingforgold "This restaurant is amazing. Had the grilled octopus and I still talk about it to this day almost six years later." — BC_Samsquanch 15. "I've been to Marmaris, Turkey several times and there's a restaurant called Golden Plate that I go to every time. I've never even seen a menu, I just ask for a recommendation and it is AMAZING every time! I've never been disappointed." — rlikesbikes 16. " Hisa Franko in Slovenia. Went out of our way to eat there. Great road trip and incredible meal and wine pairing. Amazing." — fancybeadedplacemat 17. " Bullock's Bistro in Yellowknife, Canada. The fish are fresh out of Great Slave Lake. I had the pan-fried arctic char, and I still think about it." — pleuschr 18. " Little Vincent's Pizzeria on Long Island. They add cold cheese on top of the pizza once it's cooked. Never had anything like it since." — sirachasamurai Fox / Via 20. "I was scrolling through these looking for Gaggan in Bankok — easily the most memorable meal of my life. The chef's table there isn't just a meal; it's a performance." "The thing that made it especially cool for me was that I was sat next to an Indian chef who had competed in and done very well on MasterChef Australia. So, he was able to explain both the techniques and the base foods that the chefs were adapting. Incredible." — fraxbo 21. "At a jazz club in Mexico City, I got a caesar salad prepared tableside by the grandson of Caesar Cardini. It was the best caesar salad I have ever had in my life." "Unfortunately, the restaurant did not survive COVID." — Prince-Minikid 22. " Ergon Agora in Thessaloniki, Greece. Greek food with a modern flair, but still so tasty, fresh, and humble. I went there in 2017 and still think about that place, often thinking how to add Thessaloniki to a trip just for this place!" — aucnderutresjp_1 23. "In my own country, the UK, I loved this restaurant called the Happy Lamb in London. It's near the British Museum and does fantastic make-it-yourself hot pot food. So delicious!" — Dependent_Break4800 24. And finally: " New York Pizzeria in Hamilton, New York. I've had pizza throughout Italy, New York, and many other places, but nothing as good as the slices I had while a student at Colgate in upstate New York." "I don't know if this is because I was usually fairly drunk when I ate it. Many years after graduation I took my husband, and he agreed that there was something really special about those slices." — 3C1J
