Salt March memorial walk: Ela Gandhi, the Mahatma's grand-daughter will lead a Durban commemoration of the Salt March and all are welcome. It will start at the Gandhi Settlement in Phoenix at 8am on Sunday 25 May and the walk will move at a gentle pace for 5km to the Gandhi-Luthuli Peace Park. (Please leave your car at the Peace Park; transport will be available to take you to the starting point).
Umgeni Steam Railway: Take a trip on an old steam engine as it meanders along the Valley of 1000 Hills. This 75-minute trip departs from Inchanga Railway Station to Botha's Hill and back. Aladdin brings magic to Canal Walk this winter school holiday
This winter school holiday, Canal Walk's Centre Court will transform into a magical Arabian wonderland as its popular annual theatre production returns with 'Aladdin'. From 28 June to 20 July, families can experience the enchantment of the Arabian Nights with a captivating live show, packed with music, humour and spectacle. Set in the bustling streets of old Baghdad, this timeless tale follows Aladdin, a hopeful dreamer whose life is turned upside down when he finds a magical lamp. Expect flying carpets, hidden treasures, a mischievous Genie and a story of courage and second chances that's sure to entertain all ages. The 55‑minute production will run three times a day, at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm, with no shows on Mondays. Tickets start from R110 per person and can be booked via Webtickets. The show is suitable for all ages, with under‑twos admitted free if seated on an adult's lap. More than just a memorable day out, this year's production gives back to the local community. Didi Bizzarro to re-enact grandfather's iconic stunt at Gas Motorshow 2025
This June, international stuntman Didi Bizzarro will bring a historic car stunt back to South Africa, marking 50 years since his grandfather first performed it at the Rand Show in 1975. The stunt will be a highlight of the Gas Motorshow 2025, taking place in Durban over Father's Day weekend, June 14 to 15. Bizzarro, known for his work in films such as Fast X, John Wick and Red Notice, described the event as a personal milestone. 'To honour my grandfather by bringing this stunt back to South Africa — precisely 50 years later — is something I'll never forget. There's history behind it, but also a challenge: to do it justice with today's precision and showmanship. I want it to be a real Father's Day experience, not just for my family, but for everyone watching.' The motorshow will also feature freestyle motocross displays from riders including Jacques Roema and Monster Energy's Dallen Goldman. Attendees can view a variety of vehicles, ranging from JDM models and classic customs to stanced builds and drag racers. The Sound Off competition will return with internationally ranked judges, and several prominent figures from South Africa's car community will be present. Event hours are 9am to midnight on Saturday and 9am to 11pm on Sunday. Tickets cost between R300 and R1,500, with free entry for children under ten and discounted rates for pensioners.
