Aira Explorer accessibility app rolled out at Surrey bus stations

The operator that runs Southern, Thameslink, Gatwick Express and Great Northern trains rolled the app out at 236 railway stations in 2024.

Person fighting for life after being hit by train causing delays at London station
A person is fighting for their life after being hit by a train near Luton Airport, with major disruption to rail services for London. Emergency services were called to Luton Airport Parkway station around 10am today (June 16). Officers and paramedics rushed to the scene and a person was taken to hospital. Their injuries are considered to be 'life-threatening'. Thameslink and East Midlands Railway services to and from London are facing major disruption following the incident. Lines between London St Pancras International and Luton are blocked, with disruption expected until 3pm. This affects East Midlands Railway services between St Pancras and Corby, Nottingham and Sheffield. It affects Thameslink services between Brighton, East Grinstead, Three Bridges and Bedford, Sutton and St Albans, and also between Rainham and Luton. A British Transport Police spokesperson said: 'Officers were called to Luton Airport Parkway railway station at around 10am today (16 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. 'Paramedics also attended, and a person has been taken to hospital with injuries that are considered to be life-threatening.' South East drivers told of closures for charity bike ride
Drivers in the South East have been warned of road closures on Father's Day due to a charity bike ride. The British Heart Foundation's London to Brighton Bike Ride covers 54 miles (87km) from Clapham in south London, through parts of Surrey to Brighton's seafront on Sunday 15 June. The closures will mostly affect B roads going through Chipstead, Merstham, Nutfield and Burstow in Surrey and Turners Hill, Ardingly and Ditchling in East Sussex. The B2032 near Chipstead, London Road South near Merstham, Copthorne Common Road roundabout near Crawley Down, Westfield Road in Haywards Heath and Ditchling road in Brighton & Hove will remain open. Parts of the route will remain open for southbound vehicles only, mostly from Ardingly to Ditchling Common in Sussex. Most of the Surrey roads which are included on the ride's route will close 05:00 BST on Sunday and reopen by 16:00. In Sussex, expect closures from 07:00 until 17:00 BST for the most part with Northend Lane to Beacon Road remaining closed northbound until 19:00 Brighton, Coldean Lane to Ditchling Road as well as a section of Marine Parade will close from 07:00 until 21:00 BST. Meanwhile, Southern and Thameslink have warned customers not to bring non-folding bikes at stations between Brighton and Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath or Lewes all Sunday. The charity has said 14,000 cyclists are expected to take part in the event.

No bikes will be allowed on trains across large swathes of Sussex this weekend. Southern and Thameslink have announced that the bike ban will be in place on Sunday, June 15, due to the British Heart Foundation's London to Brighton Bike Ride. The restrictions will apply to all stations in the area between Shoreham, Haywards Heath, and Lewes, including Brighton and Hove. However, foldable bicycles will still be allowed on trains. Thameslink posted on their website: "Bikes are usually allowed on our trains at off-peak times on weekdays and at weekends. "However, when large cycling events are taking place with hundreds or thousands of participants, restrictions may be put in place. "This is to avoid the walkways and vestibules on trains becoming blocked by the number of bikes." "The restrictions apply to all stations within a zone from Shoreham-by-Sea in the west, Haywards Heath in the north, and Lewes in the east. "Additionally, from the start of service until 10am, non-folding bikes will not be allowed on trains for journeys to Clapham Junction. "These restrictions are for safety reasons, and to prevent overcrowding, due to the significant number of bikes taking part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride." The 54-mile annual ride, which has raised around £50 million for heart and circulatory disease research since 1976, starts at Clapham Common and finishes on the Brighton seafront. Over the years, the ride has seen participation from more than 700,000 cyclists, including notable figures like Pippa Middleton and David Seaman.
