On Rahul Gandhi's b'day, Jagga Reddy extends `10 lakh assistance to a cancer patient

Hyderabad: To mark senior party leader and the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's birthday, TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy on Thursday extended Rs 10 lakh financial assistance to a cancer patient, Hari Krishna Prasad, of Thallapalli village in Sangareddy constituency. Prasad has been suffering from cancer for some time now. As he comes from a poor family, Reddy provided aid for his full treatment. As Prasad was earning just Rs 13,000 per month and could not afford a costly battle against cancer, the Congress leader came forward to support Prasad, who works as an employee in a Gurukula school. He has a wife, Shailaja, a daughter studying in LKG, and a son in first grade. Prasad was diagnosed with cancer three months ago. His family has already spent lakhs on treatment. With no money left for further medical expenses, the family was left helpless. Reddy came to know about Prasad's situation through his followers. Moved by the plight, Reddy volunteered to bear the complete cost of the treatment. He handed over Rs 10 lakh assistance to the patient on Thursday. Reddy reassured Prasad and his family of his support and encouraged them to stay strong. He also promised to facilitate help through the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to cover the treatment expenses incurred so far. Prasad's family expressed heartfelt gratitude for Reddy's support.

‘Blatant violation of democracy': TPCC chief Mahesh Goud testifies in Telangana phone tapping probe; Congress, BJP, TDP leaders targeted

HYDERABAD: TPCC president and MLC B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Tuesday accused the previous BRS govt of orchestrating a wide-ranging illegal phone tapping operation to suppress opposition voices and manipulate election outcomes. Mahesh Goud gave his statement as a witness in the phone tapping case being probed by the special investigation team and recorded his deposition before Jubilee Hills ACP P Venkatagiri. He alleged that over 650 political functionaries, including leaders from the Congress, BJP, and TDP, were targeted by the special operations team (SOT) at the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) office between 2017 and 2023. "The officials informed me my number too was under surveillance. I've given a full statement without reservations," Mahesh Goud told the media. Calling it a "blatant violation of democratic norms," he demanded that cases be registered against former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, BRS working president KT Rama Rao, and senior bureaucrats who, he alleged, facilitated the digital surveillance. He pointed out that the mass interception of calls, messages, and chats undermined the Congress campaign during 2018 polls. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Altenpfleger verrät: So zahlt die Pflegekasse Ihren Treppenlift Checkfox | Treppenlift Check Undo Sources said CM A Revanth Reddy and his family members' statements are also likely to be recorded by cops in connection with the case. Mahesh Goud claimed that the then chief secretary Somesh Kumar ignored warnings from him and then TPCC chief Revanth about tapping of their phones. He alleged that T Prabhakar Rao was installed as SIB chief to execute covert operation and that key hard disks were destroyed after the Congress came to power in Dec 2023. "They tried to brand us Naxalite sympathisers. It was a plot to smear us," he said. A SIT officer said over 4,000 phones were intercepted in Nov 2023. "We are recording statements from those whose numbers were tapped. None had any involvement in activities warranting surveillance," he noted. Congress Rajya Sabha MP M Anil Kumar Yadav, who also recorded his statement, said, "This explains how police placed us under house arrest every time we planned a protest." "Police will record statements from businessmen whose cash was seized based on intercepted calls, to verify whether the funds were legally accounted for," said an official.

Phone-tapping case: Telangana Congress chief deposes before SIT

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and member of legislative council (MLC) B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Tuesday deposed before the special investigation team (SIT) of the state police probing the alleged illegal tapping of phones of several high-profile people including politicians, officials, journalists, judges and celebrities during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regime. The SIT summoned Goud as a witness in the case, based on a complaint filed by him in 2023, suspecting that the then-BRS government was tapping his mobile phone. Speaking to reporters after coming out of the SIT office, the TPCC chief said the police had recorded his statement in connection with the phone tapping case. He said his phone number was among those tapped during the tenure of the BRS regime. 'The officials informed me that my number too was under surveillance. I have given my complete statement to the SIT without any reservations,' he said. Describing phone tapping as an undemocratic and unconstitutional act, Goud recalled that during the 2023 elections, while he was serving as the PCC working president alongside then-TPCC President A Revanth Reddy, a formal complaint was lodged with the chief secretary regarding these illegal activities. 'Not just Congress leaders, but over 650 phones belonging to key leaders from various parties, including the BJP and TDP, were illegally tapped. The then-BRS government acted in a disgraceful and conspiratorial manner, aiming to silence the opposition and suppress rival parties,' Goud alleged. He went on to state that phone tapping was one of the major reasons behind the Congress party's defeat in the 2018 Assembly elections. 'Every constituency where we lost was subjected to surveillance. Our communications were monitored with the intention of sabotaging our election strategies,' he charged. Soon after losing power, the BRS leadership hurriedly got the crucial hard disks containing evidence of phone tapping destroyed. 'In a sinister plot to brand us as sympathizers of Naxalites, our phones were illegally monitored. This entire operation was carried out to tarnish our image and subvert democracy,' he added.
