Traffic speed in Hyderabad improved by 6 kmph, says Police Commissioner CV Anand
HYDERABAD: The average traffic speed in the city has increased by 6 kmph compared to last year, thanks to Operation Rope and other initiatives by the Hyderabad Traffic Police, said Police Commissioner CV Anand. Speaking to the media at TGICCC, Banjara Hills, he noted that around 1,600 vehicles are being added to the city's roads every day. A year ago, the average speed was 17-18 kmph, which has now risen to 24-25 kmph. Across the three commissionerates, about 91 lakh vehicles are on the roads, with nearly 70% of them being two-wheelers. 'Though vehicle numbers keep rising, a 6 kmph increase in average speed is no small achievement,' Anand said. He said Operation Rope helped clear carriageways and improve vehicle flow. 'We're following a systematic approach to manage VIP and VVIP movements across the city,' he added. Explaining further, Anand said police are now handling VIP movement in a more planned and efficient manner. 'Earlier, we used manual mode during VIP movements. But now we're slowly shifting to automation, using manual intervention only when necessary. Even Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed us not to block traffic unnecessarily for his movement,' he said. He added that CCTV cameras have been installed on top of 25 high-rise buildings in the city. 'These provide a bird's-eye view of traffic, helping us evaluate and manage congestion better. More cameras will be added soon.' The traffic police are also using two drones to monitor road congestion and manage traffic. 'The drones help us identify where congestion starts and builds up, so we can act on it quickly,' Anand said.

Mock drill held on disaster preparedness in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: As part of Disaster Management and Monsoon preparedness, the TGICCC conducted a mock drill in collaboration with different departments simulating a building collapse at an unspecified location with an objective to evaluate inter-departmental preparedness, response coordination, and emergency management capabilities in the event of a real-time disaster scenario. An officer of TGICCC stationed at Book 'N' More Library and Activity Centre, Tukaramgate PS limits, Secunderabad made a call on Dial-112 (National Helpline Number) regarding a building collapse on Wednesday at 3 pm resulting in two deaths and 15 injuries. The alert received at TGiCCC Control Room was immediately passed on to the Control Rooms of various departments for immediate action. As per the SoS message flashed from TGICCC, the 108 Ambulances, L&O and Traffic Police reached the spot within 10-15 minutes and initiated relief and rescue operations by barricading the area and diverted the traffic, facilitating easy movement for emergency services. The DRF team, NDRF, SDRF, Fire tenders, Revenue, TGSPDCL, HMWS&SB officials reached the incident spot within 20-30 minutes and actively participated in the mock drill, providing rescue and relief operations. The exercise was carried out under the supervision of Heads of the concerned Departments and other senior officers. Throughout the drill, TGiCCC & MAOC officers monitored and documented every development, ensuring structured command response. A post-drill review session was held at the War Room, where participating departments analysed the execution, identified strengths, gaps, and areas for improvement. It was decided that mock drills for various disaster scenarios will be conducted periodically which will enhance the preparedness and response of various departments involved in disaster management. A consolidated performance report of the mock drill, along with photographic and video documentation, has been compiled by the TGiCCC. The insights drawn will be utilised to refine SOPs, enhance training, and ensure robust disaster response mechanisms across the state. This mock drill underlines the Government's commitment to safeguarding public life and property through proactive disaster preparedness and integrated emergency management. The officers from Police Commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad & Rachakonda (L&0 and Traffic), Fire Services & Disaster Management, NDRF, GHMC, HYDRA, HMWS&SB, Health, Medical & Family Welfare, SDMA, I&PR, TGSPDCL, and Hyderabad District Collectorate were present.

TGICCC holds coordination meet with IMD in Hyd'bad
Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological department (IMD) Hyderabad head Dr K Nagaratna on Thursday highlighted the utilisation of advanced tools such as Doppler weather radar-imaging, met satellite images, numerical weather predictions and GIS-based special imaging to integrating met data into the city's emergency response systems. A high-level coordination meeting was convened under the leadership of Director V B Kamalasan Reddy at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) War Room. The meeting focused on strengthening monsoon preparedness. During the meeting, Dr Nagaratna provided comprehensive insights into IMD forecasting capabilities, including nowcast, mid-range, extended range, and long-range forecasts. She discussed synoptic features like low-level jet (LLJ), tropical easterly jet (TEJ) and Tibetan plateau positions, which are crucial for accurate weather forecasting. The meeting emphasised the importance of integrating IMD data with TGICCC advanced systems, including the integrated traffic management system (ITMS), automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system, public addressing system (PAS) and variable message display boards (VMBs). A review of the types and technical specifications of cameras currently deployed at TGICCC was also conducted to ensure optimal functionality during the monsoon. Key discussions included analysis of heavy rainfall over the past decade, advance of the Southwest Monsoon-2025 and frequency of cold and heat waves. Dissemination of advisories, alerts and warnings through various media, including SACHET mobile application, was also deliberated to ensure timely communication with officials and the public. The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all departments to work in synergy, leveraging technological advancements and meteorological data to ensure safety and well-being of citizens during the monsoon.

RTA database to be integrated with TGICCC for automating challan generation
Hyderabad: With an aim to enhance real-time data accessibility for traffic enforcement, the Road Transport Authority (RTA) database will be integrated with the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) system. This integration will enable the automatic retrieval and display of crucial vehicle-related details, such as Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate validity, insurance status, and registration information, directly within the existing TGICCC system at the time of challan generation. On Wednesday, a significant coordination meeting was held at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC). It was convened by VB Kamalasan Reddy, Director, TGICCC, with Surendra Mohan, Transport Commissioner. The primary objective of the discussions was to integrate the RTA database with the TGICCC system. This real-time data synchronisation is expected to streamline enforcement workflows, significantly reduce manual verification efforts, and ensure that all challans are issued based on up-to-date and authenticated information from the RTA database. The Commissioner, Transport, assured the deputation of a dedicated team to facilitate the implementation of this proposed automated challan system. Further discussions at the meeting focused on the effective enforcement of key features under the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS). These included the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) System, Public Addressing System (PAS), and Variable Message Display Boards (VMBs). A review of the types and technical specifications, including video analytics capabilities, of the cameras currently utilised by TGICCC was also conducted. The meeting concluded with a decisive action plan – the deputation of a dedicated technical team. This team will be tasked with assessing the feasibility of integrating the RTA system with the existing infrastructure of the TGICCC. Their evaluation will encompass system compatibility, data exchange protocols, and all necessary technical requirements to ensure a seamless and effective integration. The meeting saw the participation of Joint Transport Commissioners, Shiva Lingaiah, and Chandra Shekhar Goud along with other RTA Officials and technology experts.

Key depts told to brace for monsoon readiness
Hyderabad: In preparation for the monsoon, VB Kamalasan Reddy, director, Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre, on Monday called upon all departments to collaborate and nominate qualified officers to join TGICCC. He emphasised importance of forming a dedicated joint action team and urged timely use of TGICCC services throughout the monsoon period. At the meeting held at the war room in TGICCC key officials representing the Hyderabad Collectorate, GHMC, Fire Services, HYDRA, TGSPDCL, Medical & Health department, IMD, SDRF, HMWS&SB and the commissionerates of Cyberabad & Rachakonda headed by the DG & Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad were present. The meeting focused on assessing and enhancing the preparedness for the monsoon with special emphasis on flood monitoring and traffic management at 141 identified water-logging hotspots in GHMC limits. An action plan was discussed for power restoration during heavy rainfall, diverting floodwaters to designated nalas, mitigation of seasonal diseases, Identification and necessary action on dilapidated structures, deployment of Aapda Mitra volunteers and NGOs for emergency support, promotion and use of SACHET Mobile Application and other government services to ensure public safety. City Police Commissioner CV Anand appealed to all departments to proactively anticipate challenges and pre-deploy teams at vulnerable water-logging and critical points by teams from GHMC, Traffic Police, HMWS&SB, TGSPDCL, HYDRA. He called for optimum utilisation of TGICCC advanced facilities and communication system for real-time coordination during disaster and emergency situations. Y Nagi Reddy, representing the Fire Services department, emphasised the need for the command control centre to draft a standard operating procedure (SOP) defining the roles and responsibilities of various departments, including Medical & Health, for efficient handling of fire-related incidents during the monsoon. Officers AV Ranganath (HYDRA), Mukunda Rao (Hyderabad collectorate), N Narsimlu, Director (Operations)TGSPDCL, Sahadev Ratnakar, CE(M) GHMC, Dr Gajarao Bhupal, Joint CP, Cyberabad and others attended the meeting. It concluded with a collective commitment by all departments to work in synergy for the safety and well-being of the citizens during the monsoon.
