‘Superteam' party of KJ, Rafizi, Syed Saddiq won't work, say analysts
An Umno Supreme Council member recently suggested that Khairy Jamaluddin, Rafizi Ramli, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and other political outliers form their party. PETALING JAYA : A political 'superteam' featuring big names like Khairy Jamaluddin, Rafizi Ramli and Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman might look good on paper, but won't go far in Malaysia's political terrain, analysts have warned. Personality conflicts and differing strategies by these high-profile politicians could sink a new party before it gained traction, says public policy specialist Kartini Aboo Talib of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. 'Superteams may fail because of clashing egos, different leadership styles, undefined roles, or competing strategies and interests,' she told FMT. 'Unless each person is willing to give and take, and share the same goal of defeating a common political opponent, it's not going to work.' The idea of a new party was floated by Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi, who joked that high-profile but politically displaced leaders like Khairy, Rafizi and others should form a party together with 'solid bargaining power'. However, Malaysia has a long history of failed third forces, from Parti Socialis Malaysia to Pejuang to even Muda, all of which struggled to gain ground against dominant coalitions. Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara said Malaysia's political ecosystem still revolves around parties with deep grassroots support. 'The names that are mentioned have one thing in common, that is, they are very critical of their party, whether current or former,' he said. 'But you need more than criticism and charisma. You need a membership base and a working party machinery.' Azmi cited the limited electoral success achieved by the youth-based Muda, despite Syed Saddiq's fame, saying that a party cannot survive on charisma or non-member support alone. 'It doesn't work that way. That's why Umno, PKR, DAP, PAS and Bersatu remain dominant because they have a strong grassroots base,' he said.

#SHOWBIZ: Bella Astillah apologises if videos with Syed Saddiq may irk some
KUALA LUMPUR: Singer and actress Bella Astillah apologises if anyone has become uncomfortable with the various social media content featuring her alongside Muar member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. Bella, 31, whose real name is Dayang Ara Nabella Awang Astillah, said the video posts uploaded to social media were part of her work commitments. "To everyone out there, I understand that some might feel uneasy with those videos. However, everything is actually part of a collaboration that we are required to fulfill. "For example, a client has helped us by providing aid to Sabah and Muar, so we need to return the favour by giving them some publicity such as doing live sessions together," she said during the launch of her new song, 'Lebih Indah Berpisah', composed and written by Indonesian musician and composer Ade Govinda held here earlier today. When asked if the closeness between her and Syed Saddiq was merely for show, Bella said the interactions shown were all spontaneous. "Syed Saddiq is not an actor, so it was all spontaneous. We were just doing the assigned job. For example, this month we had to do four postings, so we focused on that. But we were never required to act or anything like that," she said. Bella gave a similar answer when asked about the nature of her relationship with the politician. "When it comes to talking about relationships, I'm not comfortable talking about it. "Not only because I'm a woman, but also a mother of two. To speak openly about it is a bit improper for me. What I can say is, just pray for the best for me. "I know it sounds cliché, but it really is the for future plans, there are many things that I need to prioritise such as family and career," she added. In other developments, following the success of her previous single 'Tapi Bukan Denganmu,' Bella is thrilled that now she has a new one. The new single, is a special collaborative project with the renowned Indonesian musician. Bella said the song 'Lebih Indah Berpisah holds' a special meaning for her. "This song was beautifully created by Ade. Its simple message is that sometimes, in a relationship, it is much better to go on separate ways," she said. Bella married Aliff Aziz on Sept 9, 2016, but the couple divorced for the second time on June 13 last year at the Federal Territories Syariah Court. They have two children together, Ayden Adrean, 8, and Ara Adreanna, 5.

‘Like a robot': Syed Saddiq laughs off Kaamatan dance struggle with Bella Astillah (VIDEO)
KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman had social media in stitches after a video of him dancing with singer-actress Bella Astillah during the Kaamatan Festival made the rounds online. Clad in traditional Sabahan attire, Syed Saddiq gamely attempted local dance steps in a clip shared on social media. But it was his stiff, robotic moves that stole the spotlight — and sparked light-hearted teasing from netizens, including the MP himself. 'Not sure whether to laugh or cry watching the video again. I think I'll just stick to Parliament,' he wrote on platform X. According to him, filming took hours as he struggled to loosen up. 'From afternoon till night. Had to keep reshooting because I was so stiff — like a robot. 'Thankfully, Bella was there. That helped ease the awkwardness,' he said. Syed Saddiq also took the opportunity to send festive greetings: 'This is Malaysia. Happy Kaamatan and Gawai to all.' Sabahans celebrated the Kaamatan Festival on May 30 and 31, while Sarawakians observe Gawai Day on June 1 and 2. Bella later shared on Instagram that the dance was a first for both of them. 'Our first dance collab! Not perfect, but definitely a lot of fun. What a transition – from daylight to night. 'Thank you, Syed Saddiq. I truly appreciate your courage and willingness to try something new. That's what made it special,' she said.
