‘Like a robot': Syed Saddiq laughs off Kaamatan dance struggle with Bella Astillah (VIDEO)
KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman had social media in stitches after a video of him dancing with singer-actress Bella Astillah during the Kaamatan Festival made the rounds online.
Clad in traditional Sabahan attire, Syed Saddiq gamely attempted local dance steps in a clip shared on social media.
But it was his stiff, robotic moves that stole the spotlight — and sparked light-hearted teasing from netizens, including the MP himself.
'Not sure whether to laugh or cry watching the video again. I think I'll just stick to Parliament,' he wrote on platform X.
According to him, filming took hours as he struggled to loosen up.
'From afternoon till night. Had to keep reshooting because I was so stiff — like a robot.
'Thankfully, Bella was there. That helped ease the awkwardness,' he said.
Syed Saddiq also took the opportunity to send festive greetings: 'This is Malaysia. Happy Kaamatan and Gawai to all.'
Sabahans celebrated the Kaamatan Festival on May 30 and 31, while Sarawakians observe Gawai Day on June 1 and 2.
Bella later shared on Instagram that the dance was a first for both of them.
'Our first dance collab! Not perfect, but definitely a lot of fun. What a transition – from daylight to night.
'Thank you, Syed Saddiq. I truly appreciate your courage and willingness to try something new. That's what made it special,' she said.

No ammonia or toxic gas detected near Johor oil store fire site, says DOE
JOHOR BARU, June 22 — The Johor Department of Environment (DOE) did not detect any readings for ammonia at all monitoring locations around the area of the lorry and engine oil store fire at Jalan Cenderai 27, Taman Kota Puteri, Masai, here this morning. Johor Department of Environment director Dr Mohd Famey Yusoff said this included the fire control post which recorded non-hazardous ammonia readings during monitoring conducted last night. He said the monitoring, which began at 10am this morning, also involved Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Kota Puteri, Makmur Maju Logistic Sdn Bhd and Jalan Cenderai 27, here. 'The results of air quality monitoring at all locations near the fire site, (also found) no readings for gas parameters and volatile organic compound (VOC) were detected,' he said in a statement today. Johor Fire and Rescue Department Zone 1 chief, Senior Fire Superintendent I Zaipulbahri Mat Rusok was reported to have said that the operation in Division 1 following the fire at the store was completed at 4am this morning. However, he said that extinguishing work at Division 2 at the incident location was still continuing due to difficulties due to the obstruction of large and numerous oil drums, making it difficult for firefighters to access the fire to extinguish the fire. A total of five premises were burnt in the incident involving an area of about 1,000 square metres, including 15 vehicles that were also destroyed. The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations centre received an emergency call on the incident at 12.54pm and a total of 34 personnel and assets from several fire stations including volunteer teams were rushed to the scene. — Bernama

TikTok influencer gets excited to try Malaysian food…but is taken to Ikea (VIDEO)
KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — If you watch food videos on TikTok a lot you might have heard of Saad Akhtar who goes by the handle @sodakhtar on TikTok and Instagram. Saad was recently in Kuala Lumpur as part of what he calls his 'unemployment tour' after previously working in finance. The US-based influencer who has gone viral quite a few times for his food content, especially his cake reviews, was excited to try Malaysian food. He was not impressed when his younger sister took them to Ikea for the meatballs. '300-dollar flight to Malaysia from Australia just to end up in Ikea,' he ranted half-seriously. His sister (unnamed) insisted it was 'worth it' and she raved about the 'smooth' gravy that came with the meatballs. Hilariously there were people who agreed with Saad's sister, saying in the comments that eating at Ikea was not so much about the food but the experience. Saad, even after sampling the meatballs, remained unimpressed. Fortunately much later he posted videos of more successful culinary adventures including having halal Taiwanese food at DIN by Din Tai Fung and queuing for the pastries at KLCG.

Fighter jets staging low-level flights in Subang airspace ahead of RMAF chief's retirement parade
KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Bernama) -- Fighter jets, transport aircraft and helicopters of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will be conducting low tactical flights over selected areas, particularly in the Subang airspace, starting today until next Thursday. According to a statement from the RMAF today, the flights are in conjunction with the Retirement Parade of the 20th RMAF chief General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan, which will be held at the Subang Air Base on June 26. 'In this regard, the RMAF would like to inform the public not to be alarmed or worried if they observe low-flying aircraft,' the statement read. Mohd Asghar Khan has served in the RMAF for over 42 years since joining on July 18, 1983, as a Cadet Officer at the Royal Military College (RMC). He began his career as a fighter pilot in 1985 and has flown the A4 Skyhawk, F-5E, MiG-29N and Sukhoi 30MKM fighter aircraft. Mohd Asghar Khan has held the position of RMAF chief since March 7, 2022, succeeding General Tan Sri Ackbal Abdul Samad, who retired mandatorily. — Bernama
