Chiefs WR Rashee Rice, rookie OT Josh Simmons OK for camp

June 19 - Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice and first-round rookie tackle Josh Simmons will be ready for training camp, head coach Andy Reid confirmed Thursday. Rice, 25, missed most of last season with a torn right ACL sustained when he collided with quarterback Patrick Mahomes during a Week 4 win against the Los Angeles Chargers. Rice had been off to a hot start with 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in the first three games. A second-round pick in 2023, Rice has 103 receptions for 1,226 yards and nine TDs in 20 career games. Simmons, 22, was the final pick of the 2025 first round out of Ohio State. He missed part of last season with the Buckeyes because of a torn patellar tendon in his right knee. Rice and Simmons both participated in the Chiefs' non-contact offseason practices. The Kansas City Chiefs will report for training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, on Monday, July 21. Though some teams stagger the arrival dates of their rookies and veterans, Kansas City will have its first-year players report to camp at the same time as their more experienced counterparts. Pony Express Re-Ride to arrive in St. Joseph

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — One annual cross-country tradition will make its historic stop at the Patee House Museum this weekend. Each year, the National Pony Express Association recreates the legendary mail route that once connected St. Joseph to Sacramento, California. Riders relay a mochila carrying commemorative letters across eight states, traveling more than 1,900 miles on horseback, just like they did in 1860. The Pony Express is one of the most iconic stories of American grit and determination," said Gary Chilcote, the museum director a the Patee House Museum. "We're proud to honor that spirit and invite the community to witness this living history event firsthand. The St. Joseph community is invited to witness the arrival of the rider, explore the museum's rich history exhibits and learn more about the tradition. The Patee House Museum is open until 4 p.m. and is located at 1202 Penn St. The rider is expected to arrive at the museum by 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 21. Orzel, Stephen J. 1948-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Stephen Joseph Orzel, 77, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025. He was born Feb. 18, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, son of the late Frances and Harold Orzel. He graduated from Lafayette High School, class of 1966, then joined the United States Navy, serving four years. He married Sandra Osborn on April 10, 1967. Stephen retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad after 40 years of service as an Engineer. He enjoyed running a train, flying simulators on the computer, and spending time with family. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: wife, Sandra Orzel, of the home; daughters, Lisa (Kenneth) Wasson, Nevada, Missouri, Jennifer (Patrick) Mink, Ocala, Florida, and Kerry (Christopher) VanFosson, Falcon, Missouri; grandchildren, Ashley (Stephen), Trevor (Kat), Megan (Colton), Garrett, Christyan 'C.J.' (Heather), Kelsie (Nick) Devon, and Jackson; great-grandchildren, Everleigh, Elaya, Elsie, Karver and Gwyndolyn; and his sister, Rose (Bill) Ruckle, Prescott Valley, Arizona. Freudenthal Center for Parkinson's Disease announces annual 'Unite and Fight' Gala date

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — One annual event to bring awareness to Parkinson's Disease will take place at the beginning of August. The Freudenthal Center for Parkinson's Disease will host the Unite and Fight Gala on Aug. 12, 2025, at the Stoney Creek Hotel. Doors will open at 5 p.m., where guests can mingle and enjoy a cash bar during a reception. Dinner will be served at 5:15 p.m. and the program will start at 6 p.m. The gala will feature an overview of the services offered at the center, with a demonstration of one of the classes offered. Not only does the event bring awareness to Parkinson's, it also aims to raise money toward benefiting programs at the center, like Boxing, Big Amplitude Movement, Cycling, Loud Crowd and support groups. The programs are free to anyone with Parkinson's Disease in Northwest Missouri. Stephanie Stewart, the executive director and co-founder of Freudenthal Center for Parkinson's Disease, will be the key speaker and will give an update on the center, as well as the Parkinson's Community.
