Hospice team set to take part in Gwent dragon boat race

The team from St David's Hospice Care will be jumping into a dragon boat, picking up their paddles, hitting the drum and racing for the hospice in order to raise vital funds The Dragon Boat race, organised by St David's Hospice Care, will take place on June 28 at Llandegfedd Reservoir, near Cwmbran. St David's Hospice Care offers a range of services to support patients, their families and friends, both in the hospice and in the community. A spokesman for the charity said: "Please support the team in any way you can - every penny really does count and will bring huge motivation to the team while helping to make a big difference to the hospice." Dalmatian Bike Ride returning to Newport this summer

The Dalmatian Bike Ride will be held on Saturday, June 7, starting from Caerleon, with various routes available. Each year, the event features a raffle to raise money for St David's Hospice Care. The raffle, supported by Evans Electrical Ltd, offers a chance to win prizes sourced throughout the year by the company's staff, helping the hospice provide free services. The draw will take place at a family festival in the Priory Hotel & Restaurant gardens at 4pm on June 7. Tickets can be purchased online at The raffle is open to those aged 16 and over, with tickets allocated randomly and entered directly into the draw. Winners will be notified automatically. South Wales Car Festival held at Chepstow Racecourse

The annual South Wales Car Festival took place over the Bank Holiday weekend at Chepstow Racecourse, Monmouthshire. Held to aid St David's Hospice Care, the event attracted car lovers and families with its wide array of vehicles and fun activities. The festival displayed a variety of vehicles from renowned brands, including Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari. Classic cars, modified vehicles, car club exhibits, motorcycles, and emergency service vehicles also featured in the line up. Alongside the automotive displays, the festival offered a range of attractions for attendees of all ages. These included a DJ, a kids' corner, street food vendors and bars, craft stalls, and opportunities to purchase local produce. All proceeds from the festival will go to St David's Hospice Care, a charity dedicated to providing free, community-based hospice care to individuals with life-threatening illnesses in Gwent and Mid/South Powys. Gwent events: Steam and Country Show, AM Fest and more

The Border Counties Steam and Country Show will be held at Vauxhall Fields, Monmouth, on May 4. (Image: Supplied) Visitors will be treated to a display of vintage vehicles, including steam engines, caravans and classic cars. The event will also feature a countryside corner, children's entertainment, trade stalls, a craft marquee, a car boot sale, and dog shows. Entry is cash only, with adult tickets priced at £8, concessions at £7, and children aged 10 to 16 at £4. Children under 10 can attend for free. The Abergavenny Music Festival, or AM Fest, is set to bring live music to the town on Sunday, May 4. There will also be bars, street food, stalls, a funfair, and TV show characters for children to enjoy. Tickets are £12 for adults and £6 for children. The William Marshall Weekend at Chepstow Castle will take place from May 3 to May 5. (Image: Supplied) The event will feature archery, weaponry, and combat demonstrations by the Bowlore medieval display group, as well as interactive activities such as have-a-go archery and sword schools. There will also be bars, street food, a kids' corner, live music, craft stalls, and local produce. All funds raised will go towards the hospice's work. Tickets can be purchased online, with adult tickets priced at £16, children's tickets at £5, and a family ticket (two adults, three children) at £35. Over 60s can attend for £5. Finally, Star Wars fans can look forward to the Star Wars Day Celebrations at 37a Bridge Street, Usk, on May 4 and May 5. There will also be a hunt for Baby Yoda and an intergalactic playlist. A special Bantha Steak Rarebit will be available, and Star Wars themed beers will be on tap. Tables can be booked online.

The St David's Hospice Care Kolor Dash 2025 took place at Tredegar Park, Newport, on Saturday, April 26. The event featured a DJ, foam cannon, paint stations, dancers, a samba band, a disco tunnel, bubble displays, cheer stations, a water cannon, and medals for all finishers of the 5K run. The Kolor Dash is a fundraising event for St David's Hospice Care, which is part of a series of events to raise money for free hospice services for patients and families. The event is sponsored by National Grid. St David's Hospice Care provides a range of services, including hospice at home nurses, a 15-bed inpatient unit, two-day hospices, social workers, and bereavement support for adults and children. Kris Broome of St David's Hospice Care expressed his gratitude to all who participated, volunteered, or supported the event, as well as to the City of Newport Council for providing the facilities. There are more fundraising events planned for this year, including another Kolor Dash in August and a Glow Dash in October.
