Gunman Takes Huge Swing Ordering Hostages Buffalo Chicken Pizza

CHATTANOOGA, TN—In the midst of an armed bank robbery that authorities said is still ongoing, an unidentified gunman allegedly took a huge swing during a tense standoff Monday when he ordered his hostages Buffalo chicken pizza. Law enforcement officials confirmed the First National Bank downtown had been surrounded by SWAT teams for over six hours when the would-be thief called to purchase three 18-inch Buffalo chicken pizzas for those he had trapped inside. The suspect, who is armed with an AR-15 and a handgun, reportedly opted to skip over classic crowd-pleaser toppings and take a gamble with the novelty flavor, which features spicy fried chicken, mozzarella, and a blue cheese drizzle. The bank-robbing suspect 'At 6:49 p.m., the gunman contacted Rosario's Pizza and inquired about the menu with what we now know were reckless intentions,' said Chattanooga police chief Daniel Beaufort, who added that workers at the pizzeria options that the robber dismissed immediately as 'too basic' and 'boring.' 'Although the hostages pleaded for more straightforward pies like cheese, pepperoni, and vegetable, the suspect brazenly disregarded their preferences and rolled the dice with an unconventional choice called the Buffalo Blast.' 'What kind of monster would place an order like that?' Beaufort continued. 'Just because you like Buffalo chicken pizza doesn't mean everyone else will.' According to officers on the scene, the gun-wielding individual took more than a dozen people hostage, including a 64-year-old security guard who experiences occasional acid reflux, a 10-year-old boy who is a picky eater, and a 39-year-old bank teller who is generally adventurous when it comes to food but strongly dislikes the taste of blue cheese. The suspect allegedly chose blue cheese drizzle over ranch, raising concerns among bystanders that those trapped inside would be unlikely to eat more than a bite of the specialty pie, particularly if it was the kind that is also topped with diced carrots or celery. 'My husband is in there, and he's very particular when it comes to food,' said Chattanooga resident Brenda Klein, whose spouse Jeff is being held at gunpoint within the bank and failed to eat lunch today. 'He's 76 years old and very stuck in his ways. He loves pizza, and he loves wings, but I know for a fact that he won't like them together.' 'Plus, with all that hot sauce, he'll definitely get heartburn,' Klein added. 'Please, somebody help him. I don't want him to get sick.' Outside, SWAT team negotiators used a megaphone to remind the gunman that he was ordering for a large group, so at the very least it was polite to get a few assorted sides like mozzarella sticks, garlic bread, or a salad for his pickiest captives. One hostage, who managed to escape through a back door, described a chaotic scene in which the group's captor brashly refused to consider their tastes when ordering a 2-liter bottle of Crush grape soda rather than a more traditional Pepsi or Sprite, telling everyone to simply 'trust him' when he was urged to rethink things. 'At first I was scared, and I didn't want to try the pizza at all,' said First National Bank teller Alan Walters, adding that he hid in a closet until the gunman kicked down the door and demanded he try a bite. 'I tried to say no, but he told me it was his favorite pizza on the menu and threatened to kill me if I didn't have a little. Eventually, I took a bite and loved it.' 'Where has this pizza been all my life?' Walters continued. 'Thank goodness I made it out alive and can order it again.' At press time, the hostages had reportedly risen up and killed the gunman after he promised to order them another novelty pizza called the 'Mac Attack,' which features a large scoop of mac and cheese on top.

Superman Mythic powers in Fortnite leaked: Flight, Heat Vision, and more

Superman is coming to Fortnite, and not just as a skin. A new leak has revealed what players can expect from the upcoming Superman Mythic. If the information is true, this could be one of the most powerful Mythics the game has ever seen. The leak comes from @Egyptian_Leaker, a known name in the Fortnite community. They shared details about the Superman Mythic's gameplay features, and it looks like you might actually get to feel like the Man of Steel in your next match. What powers you might get with Superman Mythic character In trailers and teasers, we've already seen Superman flying, firing laser beams from his eyes, and sending enemies flying. According to the leak, all of this will soon be possible for players too. Here are the abilities you might get with the Superman Mythic: Heat Vision (Laser Eyes like the ones from the Sprite event) Super Strength Flying Ability These powers could let you move across the map quickly, deal huge damage, and even become hard to take down. How the Superman Mythic might work SUPERMAN MYTHIC GAMEPLAY DETAILS!Gives you:- Heat Vision (Laser Eyes, same as the ones used for the sprites)- Super Strength- Flying AbilityThe mythic will appear on the minimap when it spawns, so it'll probably work like the Godzilla mechanic and spawn a portal#Fortnite According to the leak, the Superman Mythic will appear on the mini-map once it spawns. Players might need to enter a special portal to get his powers. This system sounds similar to the old Godzilla event, where players could take control of a massive creature temporarily. There's also a chance it could work like Doctor Doom's Mythic, where you directly transform into the character and use their powers for a while. Either way, it sounds like the player who gets this Mythic will have a big advantage during the match. Will Superman be invincible in Fortnite? All we know One thing that stands out in the leak is how strong Superman might be. Some fans believe the Mythic could make the player nearly invincible, or at least very hard to beat. In the current game, the Superman NPC can't be harmed. If Epic stays true to that, this Mythic might be very powerful. However, the leak also mentions that taking enough damage might remove your powers and return you to normal. This could be a way to balance things out so it's still fair for others in the lobby. Either way, expect chaos when the Superman Mythic finally goes live.

Trump tariffs could hike canned food prices up to 15%, trade group says

Dive Brief: The 50% tariff on imported steel levied by the Trump administration could increase canned food prices between 9% and 15%, according to the Consumer Brands trade group estimated up to 20,000 U.S. food manufacturing jobs could be at risk if tariffs cause consumers to curtail their purchases of higher-priced canned goods and CPG companies opt to switch away from tin-plate steel to cheaper packaging steel tariffs are impacting a slew of products in the food space, including sauces, seafood, soup and vegetables. Dive Insight: As the White House doubles tariffs on steel and aluminum, CBA moved quickly to underscore the negative impacts they could have on manufacturing and consumer shopping habits. The CBA, whose members include Coca-Cola, The Campbell's Company and Del Monte Foods, noted that while the majority of ingredients and inputs are sourced from the U.S., there are exceptions. A major one is tin mill steel. Domestic can makers and canned food producers import nearly 80% of the material from foreign trade partners, Robert Budway, president of the Can Manufacturers Institute, said last week. Conagra Brands CEO Sean Connolly said in April that his company has "no choice" but to import the majority of its canned food packaging, estimating about 75% of the tin plate steel lines in the U.S. have been eliminated since 2018. CFO David Marberger said last week that the Hunt's tomato and Wendy's canned chili maker was working through how it will "mitigate" the higher cost for the material on its business. "Unfortunately, the domestic steel industry does not produce tin mill steel in the quality or quantities needed by U.S. can makers," Tom Madrecki, vice president of supply chain resiliency at CBA, said in a statement. "The Trump administration should fine tune its approach to recognize supply chain dependencies and protect all U.S. manufacturers, workers and consumers." A handful of other food and beverage manufacturers have warned that tariffs will impact their operations. Campbell's, which imports tinplate steel for cans and canola oil for chips, noted trade headwinds could cut into its fiscal-year earnings by 3 cents to 5 cents a share. Coca-Cola said in February that the Sprite and Dasani maker may shift some products sold in aluminum cans to PET bottles if input costs rise in light of new tariffs. Copyright 2025 Industry Dive. I travelled alone in a driverless taxi – it's a game changer for single women like me

A SLEEK white car approached me, gliding towards the pavement as a flashing green beacon like an old fashion police light revealed the letters 'CF'. That was the signifier that this way my driverless taxi. 5 Waymo was introduced to the public in San Francisco back in 2024 Credit: Alamy 5 I travelled in a Waymo when visiting San Francisco last year Credit: Cyann Fielding To unlock the car, I had to go back onto the app and confirm - none of the usual issue of someone battling you for the Uber you thought was yours. I was in San Francisco hailing a Waymo taxi, which was introduced to the public in the city back in 2024. The cars are littered all over the city and look like car-versions of Big Hero 6's Baymax. Once inside, the energy felt very much the same. Read more on taxis Unlike an Uber - where I avoid the front seat at all costs - I made a beeline for it. This was the best place to be - like the front of the Though in this case, it was the roads ahead, a wheel rotating on its own accord and a tablet screen showing all of the things within feet of the car. In fact, the cars sensors and cameras even stretched to the bins and people on the pavement... on the other side of the road. Most read in News Travel Without doubt, I was impressed. The apprehension I had prior to getting in the car had immediately subsided. Incredible moment Britain's first ever air taxi takes to UK skies with speeds of 150mph and room for four passengers It didn't feel like an erratic or janky journey, instead very smooth, taking each turn and speedbump with a planned approach. The reason why San Francisco is home to these vehicles - and other brands' driverless vehicles too - is mostly due to the city's proximity to Silicon Valley, it being a challenging city with lots of hills and also, it having a welcoming attitude towards new technologies. Whilst the cars cannot go on the highway, they can zip around the city with ease. Admittedly, to a lot of people they seem like a novelty. But in reality, the cars really do feel safe and like the future of taxis. In recent years, there have been a flurry of taxi driver scandals, with young women airing their grievances over creepy drivers. And in 2022, Uber was sued in the US over allegations of assault by drivers including allegations women passengers were kidnapped. I have had Uber drivers ask about my age, question my career as a journalist, ask if I am single, been on any dates recently, 'behave' appropriately on nights out - the list goes on. When I first moved to London, these kinds of incidents meant I didn't know which firm to trust - if it could happen with Ubersdrivers, it could happen with any driver from any taxi app or firm. I remember having a female driver in Texas, who drove so erratically I thought she was drunk. And a male driver in London, at 10am in the morning, interrogating me if I had been drinking - all because I had a can of Sprite in my hand. After a night out, I was stranded on two percent with no Uber accepting my trip. Whilst the app told me there were no nearby drivers, I was in central London, with many cars with Uber stickers whizzing by me. More than likely, I was being rejected by drivers because my trip was short and only would cost £5. Another night, whilst with friends, we had an Uber abandon us on the side of the road and zoom off with no reason explained. 5 Once you have ordered an Waymo and it arrives, you unlock it with your phone Credit: Cyann Fielding I have had Uber drivers ask about my age, question my career as a journalist, ask if I am single, been on any dates recently, 'behave' appropriately on nights out - the list goes on. Undoubtedly, I have had amazing drivers too - chatty or not, friendly and respectful, and ones who have offered me water or a charger. And whilst I make effort to give five stars and a tip for these drivers, I shouldn't feel the need to award someone for not being creepy. With Waymo, there is none of this anxiety. You unlock the car from your phone, get in and a safety demo is explained to you, the screen constantly shows what is around the car, the doors are locked for the duration of the journey, you can contact customer service by simply asking. 5 Once your ride is finished, you just shut the door and watch the vehicle drive off Credit: Cyann Fielding All of these safety measures are then enhanced by measures that make your ride enjoyable - a fun, upbeat voice, music options and even the joke that "you can sing as loud as you like because no one will hear you". Essentially, my experience was a safe, comforting private karaoke room on wheels. No complaints - even despite the slightly-higher-than-Uber price - just one satisfied customer.
