Photos: After being ignored for England Tests, Shreyas Iyer holidays in Kazakhstan

Pictures of Shreyas Iyer on vacation in Kazakhstan have gone viral on social media (Image via X/@AnuranDey_96) Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has opted for a quiet break in Kazakhstan after a rollercoaster month on the field and a notable omission from India's Test squad for the ongoing series against England. Iyer, who recently led the Punjab Kings (PBKS) to the IPL 2025 final and then captained the SoBo Mumbai Falcons in the T20 Mumbai League, found himself on the losing side in two consecutive high-stakes matches. Despite a stellar run with PBKS, who topped the IPL league table with nine wins and 19 points, Iyer's side fell agonisingly short in the title clash, losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by just six runs. He returned to domestic action almost immediately, turning out for the SoBo Mumbai Falcons in the T20 Mumbai League. The Falcons, guided by Iyer's experienced leadership, reached the final but were defeated by Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals by five wickets — adding another near-miss to Iyer's summer. Iyer blows off steam in Kazakhstan Away from the pitch, Iyer is now recharging in Kazakhstan alongside close friends. A fan video on social media shows him cruising through the city in a car with Siddesh Lad, a former Mumbai Ranji Trophy player and T20 Mumbai League regular, and another companion. The trio later posed for photos, with Iyer spotted in a white shirt, donning black shades. In another clip, the PBKS skipper is overcome by laughter, reacting to his teammate. While Iyer's recent run has been a mixed bag on the pitch, the break comes as a timely reset ahead of what's shaping up to be an important few months for the stylish right-hander. Sourav Ganguly Slams Shreyas Iyer's Omission From India's Test Squad

Last Updated: Shreyas Iyer, who has 811 runs to his name in 14 Tests played so far, last played a five-day match for Team India in February 2024 against England in Vizag. The Indian men's cricket team will face England in a five-match Test series, which is set to start on June 20 in Leeds. The Ajit Agarkar-led senior India men's selection committee picked an 18-member squad for the first away series of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle last month, but in the team picked under Shubman Gill's leadership, there was no place for Shreyas Iyer. The 30-year-old right-handed batter from Mumbai has been in red-hot form these days. He played all 17 matches of IPL 2025 for Punjab Kings and amassed a total of 604 runs. But despite his good form, Iyer was not considered for a place in the red-ball squad. Iyer's absence from the squad was questioned by many fans and former greats of the game, and now former Indian captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has also joined the bandwagon. According to the former left-handed batter, Iyer should have been in England simply because of his current form in all formats. 'He (Iyer) has been playing at his best in the last one year, and should have been in this team. The last one year has been fantastic for him. He isn't the player who got left out. He is now scoring under pressure, taking responsibility, and playing the short ball well. Although Test cricket's different, I would have had him in this series to see what he can do," Ganguly told RevSportz. Iyer, who scored a century for India on his Test debut against New Zealand in Kanpur (November 2021), last played a red-ball match for Team India in Visakhapatnam last year. He was dropped from the side due to form. After losing his place in the Test team, Iyer impressed with his batting performances in white-ball cricket. He was India's best batter in the Champions Trophy 2025, which the Rohit Sharma-led side won earlier this year with a 100% win record. Ganguly, who scored a century for India on his Test debut against England at Lord's in 1996, was also asked about India's chances in the series, and he said, 'Yes, sure. We just need two things: batting well and [Jasprit] Bumrah remaining fit. We won in Australia, in Melbourne (2020-21), with a young batting lineup, having no [Virat] Kohli, no Rohit Sharma. So, I do not see why we cannot win." First Published: June 11, 2025, 15:19 IST

Another Final, Another Loss for Shreyas Iyer as Maratha Royals Lifts Mumbai T20 Trophy

For the second week in a row, a team captained by Shreyas Iyer fell short in a T20 final. At the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, MSC Maratha Royals chased down SoBo Mumbai Falcons' 157 for four to clinch the T20 Mumbai League title, winning by five wickets with four balls to spare. Chinmay Sutar, the Royals' Impact Player, anchored the innings with a steady 53 off 49 balls, while Awais Khan's brisk 38 from 24 deliveries injected momentum into the chase. The two added 75 runs in nine overs after Sutar had an early reprieve — dropped on 15 by wicketkeeper Angkrish Raghuvanshi. While Sutar rotated strike, Awais attacked the spinners with clean sweeps and calculated lofts. Akash Parkar's pace was used against him in the 16th over, and although both set batters fell to Kartik Mishra in the penultimate over, veteran Rohan Raje sealed the win with two composed strokes in the final over. Earlier, the Royals opted to bowl after Siddhesh Lad won the toss. The Falcons laboured to 60 for three in 10 overs. Shreyas Iyer, looking to break the shackles, fell for 12 trying a reverse sweep. Harsh Aghav (45* off 28) and Mayuresh Tandel (50* off 32) then stitched together a late surge, adding 85 off 49 balls. Their finish pushed the total past 150 — but not far enough. The Royals kept their nerve. Iyer's team was left heartbroken again. Brief scores SoBo Mumbai Falcons 157 for four in 20 overs (Mayuresh Tandel 50 n.o., Harsh Aghav 45 n.o.; Vaibhav Mali 2/32) lost to MSC Maratha Royals 158 for five in 19.2 overs (Chinmay Sutar 53, Awais Khan 38) by six wickets.
