Another Final, Another Loss for Shreyas Iyer as Maratha Royals Lifts Mumbai T20 Trophy
For the second week in a row, a team captained by Shreyas Iyer fell short in a T20 final.
At the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, MSC Maratha Royals chased down SoBo Mumbai Falcons' 157 for four to clinch the T20 Mumbai League title, winning by five wickets with four balls to spare.
Chinmay Sutar, the Royals' Impact Player, anchored the innings with a steady 53 off 49 balls, while Awais Khan's brisk 38 from 24 deliveries injected momentum into the chase. The two added 75 runs in nine overs after Sutar had an early reprieve — dropped on 15 by wicketkeeper Angkrish Raghuvanshi.
While Sutar rotated strike, Awais attacked the spinners with clean sweeps and calculated lofts. Akash Parkar's pace was used against him in the 16th over, and although both set batters fell to Kartik Mishra in the penultimate over, veteran Rohan Raje sealed the win with two composed strokes in the final over.
Earlier, the Royals opted to bowl after Siddhesh Lad won the toss. The Falcons laboured to 60 for three in 10 overs. Shreyas Iyer, looking to break the shackles, fell for 12 trying a reverse sweep.
Harsh Aghav (45* off 28) and Mayuresh Tandel (50* off 32) then stitched together a late surge, adding 85 off 49 balls. Their finish pushed the total past 150 — but not far enough.
The Royals kept their nerve. Iyer's team was left heartbroken again.
Brief scores
SoBo Mumbai Falcons 157 for four in 20 overs (Mayuresh Tandel 50 n.o., Harsh Aghav 45 n.o.; Vaibhav Mali 2/32) lost to MSC Maratha Royals 158 for five in 19.2 overs (Chinmay Sutar 53, Awais Khan 38) by six wickets.

Photos: After being ignored for England Tests, Shreyas Iyer holidays in Kazakhstan
Pictures of Shreyas Iyer on vacation in Kazakhstan have gone viral on social media (Image via X/@AnuranDey_96) Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has opted for a quiet break in Kazakhstan after a rollercoaster month on the field and a notable omission from India's Test squad for the ongoing series against England. Iyer, who recently led the Punjab Kings (PBKS) to the IPL 2025 final and then captained the SoBo Mumbai Falcons in the T20 Mumbai League, found himself on the losing side in two consecutive high-stakes matches. Despite a stellar run with PBKS, who topped the IPL league table with nine wins and 19 points, Iyer's side fell agonisingly short in the title clash, losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by just six runs. He returned to domestic action almost immediately, turning out for the SoBo Mumbai Falcons in the T20 Mumbai League. The Falcons, guided by Iyer's experienced leadership, reached the final but were defeated by Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals by five wickets — adding another near-miss to Iyer's summer. Suryakumar Yadav flies to England: 'With no T20 cricket before August-September, he thought it's the best time to…'
Suffering from a sports hernia-related injury, MI star Suryakumar Yadav has flown to England to consult a specialist for treatment. The Indian T20I skipper was in good form in IPL 2025, registering 717 runs. He was also in action in the T20 Mumbai League after his IPL campaign. It is not confirmed if his pain increased during the Mumbai T20 League, and he also was occupied the last three months due to constant cricket. An anonymous source close to the cricketer confirmed to PTI, 'Surya is suffering from Sports hernia on right side lower abdomen. He has gone to the UK for consultation. If required, he will be going under the knife.' The source further added, 'With no T20 cricket before August-September, Surya thought that this is the best time where he can tend to his injury and also have enough time for recuperation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.' He is not part of the Indian Test team in England, which also gives him a rare chance to sort out his fitness without selection pressure. India's upcoming T20I assignment is in Bangladesh, and is scheduled for August, which gives him time to recover. If he undergoes surgery, we could see him miss those matches. His absence will be a huge blow to the team, considering he was the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2025 and is also the T20I skipper. The 34-year-old is a key cog in the Indian white-ball setup, having won the 2023 Asia Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup. In July 2024 after Rohit Sharma announced his T20I retirement, he was made permanent captain in that format. He has four T20I tons to his name, the second most by any batter ni the format. He was also the world's no. 1 T20I batter from October 2022-June 2024.
