Civil aviation is a big alarm: Supriya Sule on Ahmedabad plane crash
Pune (Maharashtra) [India], June 14 (ANI): After the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule on Friday raised serious concerns over India's transport safety, calling civil aviation a big alarm and a 'red flag for a long time.' Speaking to ANI, Sule said, 'Civil aviation is a big alarm. It's been a red flag for a long time. I request the Government of India to come out with a white paper.' 'The entire transport, be it roads, airways or civil aviation, there are a lot of concerns about safety.' She added, 'I thank Nitin Gadkari because he has been openly asking MPs to focus on safety. Road safety has been his priority. All of us have tried our best to work with him to make sure infrastructure and safety improve,' she told ANI. Sule noted that despite efforts in road safety, the government had struggled to maintain safety in railways and civil aviation. 'Unfortunately, our experience in railways and civil aviation has been challenging. The accidents are very alarming. I am going to discuss it in the Parliament. I'm going to meet Ashwini Vaishnaw,' Sule said. She highlighted the massive number of commuters in Mumbai alone, saying, 'The number of people using railways in Mumbai is huge. The government of India needs to put in a lot of effort and improve safety in the railways pan-India.' While expressing her grief over the crash and its national impact, she said, 'It's very painful. I appreciate that yesterday Amit Shah and today the Prime Minister went. The whole country, and the world, has reached out. It's been a very difficult 24 hours for India. We are all deeply pained.' She also warmly remembered BJP leader and former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, saying, 'Vijay Rupaniji had been a most wonderful colleague to all of us.' On Thursday, the Al-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick had crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport. The airlines said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national on board the crashed plane, airline authorities said. (ANI)

'Some people went with other ideologies': Sharad Pawar says NCP split was unforeseen; urges unity in faction
Sharad Pawar. (ANI) NEW DELHI: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) [NCP (SP)] chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said that the split in the NCP, which he co-established 26 years ago, was unforeseen. Speaking at the foundation day event of the party, Pawar reflected on the party's journey and the recent split that occurred in 2023. "The party faced some challenges, but you (party workers), without getting discouraged, continue to take the party ahead. A split occurred in the party. We never thought that a split would take place in the party, but it happened," he said at an event commemorating the NCP's 26th foundation day. "Some people went with other ideologies, and this split widened. I do not want to talk about it today. But those who remained loyal to the party, it was because of our party's ideology," the NCP (SP) chief added. Pawar projected optimistic outcomes for upcoming elections, highlighting that unity within the party and dedication to public welfare are key to success. "Do not dwell on who has left or who has joined. If we stay united and remain committed to the common people, we will not face any problems," Pawar said. Pawar mentioned that many of his party workers are committed to public service and are the party's strength. He said, "Don't worry about power. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo If we remain united, power will follow. The party split in July 2023 when Sharad Pawar's nephew, Ajit Pawar , joined the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government. The Election Commission assigned the NCP name and its clock symbol to the Ajit Pawar faction. Sharad Pawar's faction was named NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) thereafter.

AI in cane cultivation can boost economics: Sharad Pawar
Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief and former Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar on Monday said the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in sugarcane cultivation can change the sector's economics and elevate the living standards of farmers. He was speaking at an event on the theme 'How AI can be used in the field of farming such as sugarcane cultivation, rice and horticulture' in the presence of deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, state agriculture minister Manikrao Kokake and cooperation minister Balasaheb Patil. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Vasantdada Sugar Institute and Agricultural Development Trust was signed to explore ways to ensure the technology reaches as many farmers as possible. Pointing out lacunas in the sector, Pawar said sugar mills are not getting adequate cane, resulting in a crushing season that lasts only for 100 days or even less, which results in underutilisation of factory machinery and negative impact on the financial viability. 'The solution lies in increasing per-acre sugarcane yield and to achieve this, AI can play a major role. Increasing cane yield using AI, and thereby producing more sugar and by-products like ethanol, is the right approach. AI can transform the economics of sugarcane. It can help improve farmers' standard of living and generate good revenue. We must therefore implement this technology on a large scale,' he asserted. AI will be useful for all crops, but it will be a true 'game-changer' for sugarcane, Pawar added. The Agricultural Development Trust has initiated a programme with the help of Oxford University, he said. 'Experts from Vasantdada Sugar Institute and Agricultural Development Trust are working together to figure out how to set up weather stations and shelters in fields, how to use them to boost sugarcane yields. They will provide this information by visiting different sugar factories,' Pawar said. 'Every sugar factory has agriculture officers. I have consistently complained that these officers focus only on cane planting dates, harvesting schedules, and transport arrangements. They don't pay attention to how the cane grows, how to improve its quality or recovery rate. I would like to request all cooperative sugar factories to take steps to improve their agriculture departments, If need be, VSI will impart necessary training,' he said. Talking about the expenses of setting up AI-enabled systems in sugarcane farms, Pawar said the initial cost is ₹25,000 per hectare. 'Of this, ₹9,000 will be paid by the farmer, ₹6,750 by the sugar factory, and ₹9,250 will be contributed by Vasantdada Institute. It is good that the state agriculture department, Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank are now taking more interest in this project,' Pawar said. To implement AI, drip irrigation is essential, he said urging key drip irrigation system manufacturers to reduce the pricing. Ajit swaps nameplates to avoid sitting next to Pawar Sr Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Monday swapped the nameplates kept on the dais at an event in Pune to avoid sitting next to uncle and NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar, the move coming amid speculation that factions led by the two leaders could be looking at burying the hatchet and reuniting. The NCP split in July 2023 after Ajit Pawar joined the then Eknath Shinde government. The party name and clock symbol were given to the Ajit faction, while the one headed by the former Union agriculture minister was christened NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar). The nameplate swap took place at an event at the Vasantdada Sugar Institute to discuss the use of artificial intelligence in farming. As per the initial sitting arrangements, the nameplates of the two leaders were next to each other. However, the deputy CM moved the board having his name one chair away to allow state cooperation minister Babasaheb Patil to sit between him and the NCP (SP) chief. Incidentally, the sequence of events was a rerun of a similar act by Ajit Pawar at VSI itself this January. That time too, he had allowed Patil to sit next to Sharad Pawar. (With agency inputs)

NCP (SP) criticises PMC, MP over Saras Baug closure
The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) on Monday criticised the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Medha Kulkarni for closure of Saras Baug on the occasion of Eid al-Adha or Bakri Eid, calling it an attempt to stoke communal tension ahead of the civic elections. The garden was shut on Sunday after Kulkarni wrote to the civic body, asking for it to be closed to 'avoid tensions between communities'. 'This is a pre-planned move by the BJP ahead of local body polls. Instead of focusing on development, they are trying to communalise the atmosphere. Since they've failed to deliver on development, they want the elections to be fought on religious lines,' he said. A few months ago, Saras Baug, which has famous Ganpati Temple, was at the centre of controversy after allegations surfaced that some youth had offered namaz in the garden. .
