According to the Daily Record, Derek McInnes is considering a shock move for former Hibs and Aberdeen star Kevin Nisbet. The Scotland striker has returned to Millwall after his Dons loan spell came to a close. It's claimed that McInnes has been a fan of Nisbet's for some time and wouldn't say no to trying to lure him back to Edinburgh. McInnes said today that he's in constant discussion with Shankland and his agent over a new deal. But the new Hearts boss insists time is running out and that he wants a resolution soon. He told Sky Sports: "I'm in constant dialogue with Lawrence, spoke to his agents as well several times through the last few weeks but Lawrence has obviously got a lot to consider. "We think we're a really strong option for him, whether we're the best option in Lawrence's eyes we've got to wait and see but there'll come a point really that we need to draw a line under it and Lawrence has got to look at looking after him and I've got to look after Hearts. "Hopefully we can find a solution because he is a player that I think can really thrive with us at Hearts. "He's shown in the time here how important he is and you try and not let players like that leave the door without putting up the best fight you can and we're in the fight for him. FOUR to join Rangers before Champions League Plus Aarons impact on Tavernier REVEALED "I believe we're a really strong option for Lawrence, I believe we're the best option for him at this moment, he's got the World Cup to try and get involved in at the end of next season. 'There are loads of reasons why Lawrence could see this as a good option for him. "Hopefully as I say we're his best option and at the minute we're in the fight to keep him. "I always feel deadlines are not always healthy and sometimes can be a bit antagonistic but there's been enough conversations with Lawrence. "There'll come a point where he has to move on and try and secure his future and likewise I need to make sure that we secure our squad going forward but we're not at that stage yet. "But sooner rather than later really to try and get that resolved because I want clarity in what I'm dealing with and I'm sure Lawrence is wanting clarity on his future as well." 4 Nisbet celebrates scoring the winner for Hibs in a 2023 derby clash against Hearts Credit: Andrew Barr Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Kevin Nisbet on Hearts transfer radar as Lawrence Shankland alternatives eyed and McInnes makes admission
The Jambos are desperately trying to get their captain tied down on a new contract but might be forced to look elsewhere Derek McInnes insists a decision from Lawrence Shankland on his Hearts future is now a matter of urgency - with the Jambos keeping tabs on Kevin Nisbet as a potential alternative. Gorgie captain Shanks is out of contract at Tynecastle and is yet to accept a new deal as he also considers other options available to him, with West Brom and two Saudi Pro League teams keen. McInnes, who hosts former club Aberdeen in a mouthwatering Monday night clash for his first Premiership game in charge, believes Hearts is still Shankland's best bet but admits a decision needs to be made "sooner rather than later.' And if they fail in a bid to convince Shankland to remain in Gorgie, then his Scotland team-mate - and ex-Hibs man – Nisbet is under consideration. Nisbet has returned to Millwall following his Scottish Cup-winning loan spell at Aberdeen last season. The 28-year-old is going into the final year of his deal at the New Den as Alex Neil assesses his future. McInnes is a long-time admirer of Nisbet and is keeping an eye on his situation in south London as Shankland talks continue. On Shankland, the Hearts boss told Sky Sports: 'I'm in constant dialogue with Lawrence, spoke to his agents as well several times through the last few weeks but Lawrence has obviously got a lot to consider. "We think we're a really strong option for him, whether we're the best option in Lawrence's eyes we've got to wait and see but there'll come a point really that we need to draw a line under it and Lawrence has got to look at looking after him and I've got to look after Hearts. Lawrence Shankland trains with Rangers captain James Tavernier and Newcastle Utd star in unlikely pre-season team up
The pair joined Kieran Trippier for an elite coaching camp in the United Arab Emirates Lawrence Shankland has been spotted training with James Tavernier – but it's no sign they'll be teammates any time soon as the pair joined Kieran Trippier for a warm weather coaching camp in the UAE. The Hearts captain is out of contract and, as he mulls over talks with Derek McInnes to stay in Gorgie, he's been keeping himself sharp in his downtime. The same goes for Rangers skipper Tavernier who is due back in on Monday for his first session under Russell Martin with the Ibrox side gearing up for their opening Champions League qualifier with Panathinaikos next month. Neither have been putting their feet up as eagle-eyed fans spotted a post from elite performance coach Chris Bowman – who took the pair to the United Arab Emirates for an intense coaching session. They were in elite company with Newcastle and England right-back Trippier also involved in the session which took place in the searing heat in the desert. Bowman, who ran the session, shared a number of clips on his Instagram story which featured the trio and other players as they were put through their paces in their down time. A snap shared with all the players together showed Shankland on the left and Tavernier on the right, captioned: "Tough one in the cooker today." Hearts fans will of course be hoping Shankland hangs around at Tynecastle to help new boss McInnes in his ambition to gun down Rangers and split the Old Firm this season. Whether Rangers fans would be open to Shankland and Tavernier joining forces on the pitch next season is another question. Russell Martin is thought to be on the hunt for another striker but he'll first need to resolve the future of Cyriel Dessers who continues to court interest from AEK Athens. But the new Ibrox board's firm stance on landing a fee in the region of £5million for last season's top scorer means that one may not reach a conclusion any time soon. Despite what was largely a disappointing season for Shankland last term, he still managed nine goals and 11 assists in a campaign that improved towards the end. He scored back to back doubles against Ross County and Motherwell after the split, rediscovering some of the form that saw him score 31 times in 2023/24.
