59th foundation day of Sena: Shinde sounds BMC poll bugle, says Uddhav Sena looted Mumbai treasury

Sounding the poll bugle for the upcoming elections to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde accused the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena UBT, which ruled the civic body for over two decades, of looting it and now invoking the 'fight for Mumbai' campaign for 'political gain'. Shinde was referring to Sena UBT MLA and former minister Aaditya Thackeray's recently launched 'ladha Mumbai cha' (fight for Mumbai) campaign. He was speaking at the event to mark the 59th foundation day of Shiv Sena in Worli. 'Just like a demon's life is tied to a parrot, their lifeline is the BMC treasury, and hence they now remember Mumbai and fight for Mumbai, and are making baseless claims of plot to break Mumbai from Maharashtra,' Shinde said, alluding to the Sena UBT. He added, 'Mumbai belongs to Maharashtra. No matter who comes or even if seven generations descend, no one can separate it from the state.' Reaffirming his allegiance to Sena founder late Balasaheb Thackeray's ideology and referring to the foundation day event of Sena UBT, Shinde said, 'Ours is a gathering of principles, theirs is one of desperation for power. We have preserved Balasaheb's vision, and that's why Shiv Sena is charging ahead.' Taking a dig at Uddhav, Shinde said, 'Even a chameleon takes time to change colour — not these people. Balasaheb once gave up his voting rights for Hindutva but never compromised. Today, those claiming to be his heirs have sold themselves for power.' Referring to Uddhav's remark during the foundation day event of Sena UBT, Shinde said, 'What's the point of hitting someone politically dead? Maharashtra has already killed you in polls.' Recalling a dialogue from the film Prahaar, Thackeray said during a rally, 'Like Nana Patekar in the film, I am standing before these traitors and telling them, Come on, kill me.' 'You were in power all these years, looting the treasury, playing with Mumbaikars' health, and now you remember the Mumbai fight?' he asked. On ongoing investigations into the Mithi River desilting scam, Shinde warned, 'One person(actor Dino Morea) is already being probed — if he starts speaking, many will fall like dominoes. No one will escape the crocodile grip of the Mithi River.' 'Get ready to win,' he told party workers. 'The saffron flag of Mahayuti will fly high over municipal corporations, councils, and village panchayats.' During his address, Shinde announced the launch of a new campaign titled 'Dowry-free Maharashtra' to protect the women facing dowry harrassment. The initiative, spearheaded by Sena's women's wing, comes in the wake of the tragic death of Vaishnavi Hagwane in Pune, allegedly due to dowry harassment. 'Like the daughters of Maharashtra, daughter-in-laws are also like my own sisters. This campaign will begin at Anand Ashram in Thane and expand across the state. Every Sena Shakha will become a second home for women facing dowry-related abuse,' Shinde said. Earlier in the day, Shinde Sena mocked Uddhav Sena for celebrating the party's foundation day, claiming the Sena UBT came into existence only three years ago and should celebrate its foundation day on October 10, 2022, when the Election Commission granted it the name and mashal as its poll symbol.

Rs 1.8 crore found at Maharashtra guest house stirs political row

Rs 1.8 crore seized from govt guest house in Dhule NASHIK/MUMBAI: Maharashtra CM Fadnavis said Thursday an SIT would be set up to probe the discovery of Rs 1.8 crore inside a locked room of a govt guest house in Maharashtra's Dhule, reports Abhilash Botekar. The cash was seized prompted by a tip-off, authorities said. Additional SP Kishor Kale said, "counting of the money went on till early Thursday. The room has been sealed". Police said no FIR has been registered yet. State legislative council chairperson Ram Shinde later said Kishore Patil, a section officer in state legislature, has been suspended. Former MLA and Sena UBT member Anil Gote alleged the money was meant for Arjun Khotkar, an MLA of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and chairperson of Estimates Committee of the legislature, which scrutinises spending of public money by govt. Gote claimed "the room was booked under the name of Kishor Patil, who is also Khotkar's assistant and had been staying at the guest house for the last couple of days". Khotkar, however, dismissed the allegations. "He (Gote) is in the habit of making such baseless allegations. I checked with Patil and he clarified he had booked a different room and not the one in question," he said.

Sena UBT former BMC corporator Tejaswi Ghosalkar quits party post

In yet another setback for Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) in Mumbai, party's former corporator Tejasvee Ghosalkar, who is the wife of slain party leader and former corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar, resigned from the party post on Tuesday, citing personal reasons and expressing displeasure over the functioning of the local leadership in North Mumbai. Ghosalkar, who was the Sena UBT's women's wing head for the Dahisar Assembly segment, submitted her resignation via WhatsApp to the local party unit. The Ghosalkars had a long association with the Thackeray family. Citing personal reasons for the resignation, her WhatsApp message to the local leadership of Sena said, 'I thank the party leadership for the opportunity to serve and respectfully request that my resignation be accepted.' According to sources in the Sena UBT, party chief Uddhav Thackeray called her to convince her to withdraw her resignation. Even as Ghosalkar has not yet announced any further steps, it is being speculated that she may join the Shinde-led Sena or the BJP. Abhishek Ghosalkar was shot dead in early 2024 during a Facebook Live by local resident Morris Noronha — an incident that sent shockwaves through the city and catalysed her entry into public life. Tejasvee's father-in-law Vinod Ghosalkar had contested the Assembly polls from Dahisar seat in the 2024 polls on the Sena UBT ticket, but lost. Vinod Ghosalkar is considered to be loyal to the Thackeray family. It is, however, speculated that her strained relation with her father-in-law is one of the reasons for her resignation, apart from the differences with the party's local leadership. Half of undivided Sena corporators with Shinde Nearly 50 per cent of the corporators of the undivided Shiv Sena in 2017 have now aligned themselves with the Eknath Shinde-led faction, after the party's vertical split in 2022. The undivided Shiv Sena, under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray, had secured 84 seats in the 2017 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. However, since the split, 43 former corporators joined the faction led by Eknath Shinde. Prominent among those who shifted allegiance include former corporators Ameya Ghole, Samadhan Sarvankar, Sheetal Mhatre, Yashwant Jadhav, Raju Pednekar, Suvarna Karanje and Snehal Shinde. The exodus is being viewed as a significant boost for the Shinde-led Sena as it gears up for civic polls in Mumbai.

Sena UBT slams govt over not hiking Ladki Bahin payment, to submit memorandum to collector

The Sena UBT Tuesday questioned the state government over not increasing the monthly amount under the Ladki Bahin scheme from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100 as promised before the state Assembly polls. The party's women's wing will meet the Mumbai Collector on Wednesday and submit a memorandum demanding to fulfill the promise of increasing payout under Ladki Bahin scheme. In a press conference on Tuesday, senior party leader and former BMC mayor Kishori Pednekar accused the state government of deceiving the public with grand announcements while lacking a concrete execution plan. 'You had a slogan, we had a plan,' said Pednekar. 'We can provide Rs 3,000 to women if needed, but why should we reveal our strategy when the government is looting the municipal corporation?' She said the ruling alliance had promised to raise the monthly payout under the Ladki Bahin Yojana from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100. 'You admitted to this hike. When will you deliver it?' she asked. Pednekar said that the memorandum on Wednesday is expected to demand immediate clarity and timelines for fulfilling the Ladki Bahin scheme promises and call for swift action to conduct pending civic elections across Maharashtra. The Sena UBT's remarks came a day after Social Justice Department Minister Sanjay Shirsat said that the Maharashtra government cannot increase the payments under the Ladki Bahin scheme to Rs 2,100 due to 'financial burden'. Besides, the decision of the Finance Ministry to reallocate approximately Rs 400 crore from the Social Justice Department to fund the Ladki Bahin scheme had sparked criticism from both ruling allies and the opposition.

Raut presents copy of his book to Pawar, Shinde Sena says ‘invitation to go to jail'

As Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday handed a copy of his book ''Narkatala Swarg' (Heaven in the Hell), which details his three-month jail term after the ED arrest, to NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar, Shinde Sena took a jibe at the meeting terming it as Raut's 'invitation to Pawar to go to jail'. Sanjay Shirsat, spokesperson of Deputy CM Eknath Shinde -led Shiv Sena, said that there could be two meanings behind the meeting. 'One, he must be telling Pawar that you go to jail, you will be able to see the heaven. The second meaning could be that Raut had been to the jail for three months, he has seen the heaven and he is much experienced now…The government should take serious cognisance of this and should once again send Raut to jail. He will then get another idea to write another book,' Shirsat said. Raut, who met Pawar at his residence in Mumbai, also urged the NCP(SP) chief to attend the book release function to be held in Mumbai on May 17. The book details experiences of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in 2022 and his imprisonment. He was arrested on August 1, 2022, in the connection with the alleged irregularities in the Rs 1,034-crore Patra Chawl Development case in West Goregaon in Mumbai. The court had granted him bail after 100 days while describing his arrest as ''illegal'. Raut said the book will be released in presence of his party chief and former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Sharad Pawar and Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale will also attend the event. In a social media post, Pawar said,' Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut met me at my residence and invited me to attend the function for his book release. During the meeting, we discussed various state and national issues. I wishes all tthe good luck for his future endeavours.' Speaking about his book, Raut said, book exposes the way the ED carried out his arrest and how the government went all-out to silence him. 'I was framed in a false case. This was done intentionally and brazenly to muzzle my freedom of speech. Every word that I spoke had a grain of truth in it and it hurts the powers-that-be who conspired to put him in jail. I had full faith in our judiciary which again upheld the truth and called the bluff of the rulers, he said. 'Though the government sent me to the hell, people like me did not bend or come to the knees. They could not break me, my values and my honesty. The book will inspire those who fight for democracy,' the Sena UBT leader added. However, Raut the book does not intend to make any explosive revealation. 'Narrating the real life experiences does not mean explosive revelation. Whatever I saw and experienced has been revealed,' he said.
