SejaTi MADANI: Value-added Catfish Products Help Boost Community Income
PASIR SALAK, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI) programme has proven effective in strengthening the local economy, particularly for the urban poor and communities in rural and remote areas. Perak Menteri Besar's special officer for the Kampung Gajah state constituency, Khairul Azwan Harun, said that with a government grant of RM100,000 under the SejaTi MADANI initiative, the community of Kampung Makmur near Kampung Gajah here has achieved notable success through the production of value-added products derived from catfish farming in canvas ponds. "The Kampung Makmur community now has three main downstream products, namely catfish balls, cakes, and butter garlic herb fillets, all produced entirely by participants of the SejaTi MADANI programme. "This project not only generates income from fish farming but also imparts new knowledge and helps increase the income of local residents through the creation of downstream products," he told Bernama after launching the products under the SejaTi MADANI programme by the Kampung Makmur Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) at Pasir Salak Community College here today. He also reminded recipients of SejaTi MADANI funds to ensure that the allocations bring positive impact to the local community. "Participants must realise that the SejaTi MADANI programme, initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is meant to help the community grow their economy," he said. Meanwhile, Kampung Makmur JPKK chairman Muhammad Fauzi Ahmad Shaharudin said the launch of the downstream products marked the continuation of the catfish farming project undertaken by the community in September last year. "Following the success of our catfish farming, we began a new chapter by developing downstream products, and a total of 17 JPKK members took part in an intensive training series at Pasir Salak Community College from May 21 to June 12," he said. He added that in addition to processing techniques, participants also received training in packaging, labelling, digital marketing, and accounting to ensure they not only produce quality goods but are also capable of managing and promoting their business effectively.

One-foot papaya project boosts Kampung Kuak Hulu's economy
IPOH: Kampung Kuak Hulu in Pengkalan Hulu, one of three villages under the supervision of Kolej Komuniti Gerik, has been selected to receive an allocation of RM100,000 under the Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI) initiative for its sustainable 'betik sekaki' (one-foot papaya) planting project. Kampung Kuak Hulu SejaTi MADANI project chairman, Mohd Zaidi Bakri, said the initiative, undertaken by the Kampung Kuak Hulu Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK), aims to help local residents generate income through modern and sustainable agricultural practices. 'Since its implementation in early July last year, the programme has benefited 10 participants. Moreover, it has established an integrated development model that connects the local community with an educational institution,' he added. 'The project also supports the sustainability of the village economy by harnessing its true potential, while empowering the community through training, active participation, and shared responsibility,' he said in a statement issued by Kolej Komuniti Gerik today. Mohd Zaidi added that each participant is expected to earn a net return of between RM2,000 and RM2,500 once the crops bear fruit, depending on market prices. Meanwhile, Kampung Kuak Hulu JPKK chairman, Mohd Nazri Md Midah, in the same statement, said that, to prevent fruit oversupply, the JPKK, in collaboration with Kolej Komuniti Gerik, had organised a course on processing papaya into chilli sauce and fruit jam. He noted that the SejaTi MADANI Project, an initiative inspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is expected to be expanded to other areas, with a specific focus on local food production, thereby contributing to the national food security chain. 'The MADANI sustainability project involving one-foot papaya planting is one of JPKK's initiatives to encourage youth participation in the agricultural sector,' he added. Meanwhile, the college said that the community fund is part of the government's effort to promote inclusive community development by harnessing local potential. The villages involved are positioned as key drivers of development through the implementation of high-impact projects aligned with the values of Malaysia MADANI. SejaTi MADANI is a government initiative under the MADANI framework, aimed at stimulating economic activity at the community level and increasing household income by providing allocations of up to RM100,000 to eligible communities. The initiative complements the broader MADANI Economy Framework, which prioritises the well-being of the people by raising the income floor and strengthening the community-based economy.

SejaTi MADANI: Catfish Project Transforms Rural Economy In Kampung Kuala Pertang
KUALA KRAI, May 30 (Bernama) -- A catfish farming project spearheaded by the Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JPKKP) of Kampung Kuala Pertang is gaining strong market traction, proving the potential of rural communities in generating new grassroots economic opportunities. Implemented under the Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI) initiative, the aquaculture project not only provides an additional source of income for the villagers but also has the potential to serve as a foundation for a more structured development of micro-enterprises in the future. According to Kampung Kuala Pertang JPKKP chairman Adnan Mat Yassin, the project which began in mid-January with RM100,000 in funding from the government saw its first harvest on May 1. 'We kicked off the project by releasing 39,000 catfish fry into eight canvas ponds. We began selling the first harvest on May 1, and in just two weeks, sales reached 35 kilogrammes, generating nearly RM1,000 in income. 'Demand keeps rising, not just from locals but also from school canteen operators and restaurants around Kuala Krai. We can barely keep up,' he told Bernama when met in Kampung Kuala Pertang recently. Adnan said the catfish is sold at RM8 per kilogramme or RM9 per kilogramme if cleaned. While they have yet to estimate the overall profit as the first harvest is still ongoing, Adnan is confident the project has the potential to grow and serve as a starting point for a new rural economy. 'Right now, our focus is on ensuring the first harvest runs smoothly. From there, we'll evaluate the actual potential of expanding this project into a structured small enterprise,' he said, expressing optimism that the project could enhance the participants' skills and economic growth. Assisted by 12 other committee members, he also plans to use part of the sales revenue to expand the number of ponds or start a second breeding cycle in July.
