$132 Million WR Was Trying to Get to Raiders This Offseason, Says Former Player

$132 Million WR Was Trying to Get to Raiders This Offseason, Says Former Player originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders had a very busy offseason, but new general manager John Spytek has shown a lot of discipline early on. Instead of spending a ton of money on big-name free agents or trading for disgruntled star skill position players, he's exercised a more patient approach. Advertisement However, the Raiders did have a big need at wide receiver this offseason, and DK Metcalf was an obvious fit due to his previous ties with head coach Pete Carroll. The team already made one trade with the Seattle Seahawks by dealing for Geno Smith, so another transaction wouldn't have been out of the question. Pittsburgh Steelers WR DK Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images Plus, it sounds like Metcalf really wanted to go to Las Vegas. Carroll was a guest on Da Get Got Pod With Marshawn Lynch & Mike Robinson. The topic of Smith coming to the Raiders came up, which led Lynch to talk about how Carroll wanted to bring a lot of former Seahawks to Las Vegas. "I know, remember DK (Metcalf) wanted to go there," Robinson chimed in. Advertisement They quickly moved on from that talking point, but it was a very interesting note for Robinson to drop. He was a former Seahawks player, and Lynch played with Metcalf briefly, so it stands to reason that they'd have some insight into his thought process. It's not entirely clear why the Raiders wouldn't have wanted to trade for the star wide receiver. He did end up costing the Steelers $132 million once he got traded, so perhaps the team just didn't want to pay him that kind of money after a trade. Seahawks GM sheds light on Steelers-DK Metcalf trade: 'Pittsburgh was really aggressive'

"Pittsburgh was really aggressive."@Seahawks GM John Schnieder details the D.K. Metcalf trade this offseason to the @Steelers. There's no denying the 'Khan Artist' — as Seahawks GM John Schneider just revealed how the Steelers–DK Metcalf trade played out. On a recent episode of the 3 and Out podcast with John Middlekauff, Schneider explained how they tried to keep Metcalf — but his desire to leave, coupled with the Steelers' aggressiveness, ultimately led to the trade: "In regards to DK, we had a ton of conversations last offseason about his legacy and where he wanted to go," Schneider said. "He wanted to be here. Once he met the new coaching staff, he was excited. And then this year, it just happened again. You can't change the way people think. As much as we love him and want to have him here, when people want to leave, it's difficult to try to convince them to stay. "…Once we got back from the combine, we had another real open talk. And then we just told him we would concede to his wishes — no promises — but we'll see where it goes. Pittsburgh, Omar [Khan], and those guys were really aggressive." Khan's presence in player acquisition is second to none — as the Steelers GM has continued to fortify the Pittsburgh roster for years to come with great drafts and impressive trades. Seahawks all-time record vs NFC East: updated for 2025

For the past two years, we at Seahawks Wire have been tracking the Seattle Seahawks' all-time records against every team in the NFL. It is important, we feel, to keep an updated log of Seattle's history and how they stack up with other squads in the league. We are resuming this ongoing series with updated records headed into the 2025 season. So far in this series, we have done we have covered the NFC West, NFC North, NFC South and AFC South. We focused on the two southern divisions early due to the fact Seattle is paired against those divisions for the 2025 season. For our latest entry, we will officially be closing out the NFC with the East. The Seahawks were last slated to play the NFC East in 2023, but did have an infamous showdown with one of these teams last year. Dallas Cowboys All-time record: Dallas leads the series 12-10 Longest win streak: both teams have won three straight against each other, but Dallas has done it twice (October 1976-December 1983, November 2008-November 2011) and Seattle has only done it once between November 2015 and September 2018. Most recent outcome: November 30th, 2023 - the Cowboys outlast the Seahawks 41-35 in a Thursday Night Football shootout. Seattle squandered a 35-27 lead in the fourth quarter and turned the ball over on downs on their three final possessions of the game. New York Giants All-time record: the series is tied at 11-11 Longest win streak: the Seahawks won four-straight games October 2011 to October 2017 Most recent outcome: October 6th, 2024 - the Giants gave my father the worst birthday gift imaginable by handing the Seahawks one of the worst losses in recent memory, stealing a game 29-20 at Lumen Field. This would be the last game New York would win in 2024 for an astonishing 10 weeks. Philadelphia Eagles All-time record: Seattle leads the series 13-7 Longest win streak: the Seahawks are currently on an eight-game winning streak over the Eagles dating back to December 2011. Most recent outcome: December 18th, 2023 - the Seahawks saved their season with backup Drew Lock under center on Monday Night Football. Seattle had lost their last four games, and at 6-7 were on the verge of being eliminated entirely from postseason contention. Instead, Drew Lock found then-rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a game-winning touchdown strike and safety Julian Love intercepted Jalen Hurts to seal the 20-17 upset victory. Washington Commanders All-time record: Washington lead the series 13-10 Longest win streak: the Commanders have defeated the Seahawks four times in a row twice, from September 1983 to November 1992, and from November 2001 to October 2005. Most recent outcome: November 12th, 2023 - for the first time in the rivalry, the Seahawks defeated the "other" Washington at Lumen Field during the regular season. Jason Myers nailed the game winning kick from 43-yards out to win 29-26 over the Commanders.

Yahoo Sports has Geno Smith as a Top 10 quarterback

There are few things NFL fans love more than rankings. Teams, games, players, you name it... if there is a ranking of anything NFL related, fans will be naturally drawn to it. Recently, Yahoo Sports released a ranking of the top 10 quarterbacks entering the 2025 season. Of course, the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, reigning MVP Josh Allen and Joe Burrow were in the top spots. No surprise there. But take a look at who cracks the top 10 at No. 8 overall... Yup, that Geno Smith. Former Seattle Seahawk-turned-Raider Geno Smith. Two-time Pro Bowler and two-time Seahawks single season passing record holder Geno Smith. On one hand, I am thrilled to see Smith finally get some recognition. During his tenure in Seattle, Smith was absolutely one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. The Seahawks had a winning record in all three seasons Smith was the starter, and was often the only consistent element in their roller coaster offense. Since 2022, he has also led the entire league with 12 game winning drives. The Raiders have obtained the best quarterback they've had in at least 20 years. But on the other hand, it is beyond frustrating to see Smith routinely praised only after leaving the Seahawks. While he was in Seattle, it felt as if the national media couldn't be bothered to give him the time of day. Now that he's gone, the narrative has immediately shifted to "what are the Seahawks doing!? They let a great quarterback leave!" Where was this energy when Smith was wearing college navy and action green? There is somewhat of an anti-Seahawks bias in the media. Not that the media is actively working against Seattle, but in the sense the Seahawks are often an afterthought at best. The sudden (overdue!) praise Geno Smith is receiving now is further evidence of it.

Jaire Alexander's contract is good news for Seahawks' CB pursuit

Jaire Alexander's contract is good news for Seahawks' CB pursuit The Baltimore Ravens recently signed free-agent cornerback Jaire Alexander following his release from the Green Bay Packers. The Seattle Seahawks never felt like legitimate players for Alexander. Nonetheless, GM John Schneider will have paid close attention to his agreement in Baltimore. The Seahawks have been linked to adding another veteran cornerback to their roster prior to training camp starting in late July. Alexander's deal with the Ravens could help kickstart movement on the market again. Schneider will be thrilled with the terms Alexander agreed to. Alexander signed a one-year contract with the Ravens worth up to $6 million. Alexander's base salary is just $4 million, per OverTheCap. He could earn the additional $2 million via play-related incentives. Alexander is a former Pro Bowl defender. Though he's battled injuries and inconsistencies in recent years, he possessed more negotiating power in free agency than most available cornerbacks. His deal being so team-friendly is bad news for other veteran corners on the market. The Seahawks previously hosted free-agent cornerbacks Rasul Douglas and Shaquill Griffin on visits. Both veterans are taking their time before making a decision. Alexander's compensation will have a direct impact on their negotiations. Alexander's deal means the Seahawks should add a veteran cornerback on an even cheaper deal than first imagined.
