Registration still open for Export Day Sarawak 2025 at Imperial Hotel Kuching
According to the organiser, the Sarawak Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (Mintred), the deadline for registration is June 30. — Bernama photo KUCHING (June 21): Registration is still open for Sarawak-based entrepreneurs to participate in the Export Day Sarawak 2025, which will take place at Imperial Hotel here on July 2-3. The event will run from 8.30am till 5.30pm daily, with free admissions for all Sarawak micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). According to the organiser, the Sarawak Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (Mintred), the deadline for registration is June 30. 'Are you a Sarawak-based entrepreneur ready to take your business global? Join us at Export Day Sarawak 2025, a two-day event designed to empower Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with the knowledge, tools, and connections needed to succeed in international markets,' said the ministry in a statement yesterday. Participants can gain insights into export readiness strategies, trade finance options for MSMEs, leveraging free trade agreements (FTAs), logistics support, pricing strategies and legal compliance. The programme also covers advice on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices for sustainable exports and the use of digital platforms for market expansion. In addition, the event will feature the unveiling of real success stories from Sarawak exporters and a town hall session with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also the Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment. The event is organised by Mintred in collaboration with Invest Sarawak and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), with strategic partners including Affin Bank, Maybank, Redly Express, Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC). The ministry said participants must attend both days to receive an e-certificate. Confirmation of participation will be emailed to successful applicants. RWMF 2025 kicks off tomorrow with global line-up, green mission

Final preparations are underway at the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV), where organisers, vendors, and volunteers are putting the finishing touches ahead of the festival's 28th edition, taking place from June 20 to 22. The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), organiser of the event, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth and memorable experience for festivalgoers. Its team, alongside volunteers and vendors, has been working tirelessly on-site to ready the facilities and logistics for the thousands expected to attend. A visit by The Borneo Post to SCV today observed workers setting up food and merchandise booths, finalising the main stage structure, and marking out visitor pathways around the festival grounds. Technical crews were also seen testing audio and lighting systems in preparation for tomorrow's opening performances. Headlining the festival is the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire Experience by Al McKay, set to electrify the main stage. Other international performers include Seppuku Pistols from Japan, Rob Ruha from New Zealand, The Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band from Thailand, and the Siberian-Russian group Otyken, known for their powerful fusion of traditional ethnic sounds. Local acts will also take centre stage, including Sarawak-based groups At Adau, Meruked, and Buluh Berkocak, who will present their own renditions of traditional Bornean music in contemporary arrangements. In line with its sustainability goals, the festival has announced that plastic beverage bottles will not be allowed within the grounds – part of a broader effort to reduce single-use plastics and promote environmental responsibility. RWMF 2025 is expected to draw thousands of music lovers to the foot of Mount Santubong for three days of performances, cultural exchange, and eco-conscious celebration. SUPP reaffirms unwavering commitment in fighting for Sarawak's rights, autonomy

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang emphasized that SUPP, along with other component parties in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), was committed to protecting and safeguarding Sarawak's rights. He recounted the party's journey since its founding in 1959, saying they had one goal — to fight for Sarawak and for Sarawakians. 'Our objective was to unite all ethnic groups under the Sarawakian identity and to make Sarawak stronger, better and become our own master. Those objectives were in 1959,' he said during the anniversary cum Father's Day celebration hosted by the SUPP Nangka branch here last Sunday. The Pelawan assemblyman also highlighted the key milestones in SUPP's political journey and recalled the formation of GPS in 2018 after Sarawak-based parties, including SUPP, left Barisan Nasional. 'Together with Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), we formed GPS to put Sarawak first. GPS fights for Sarawak, only Sarawak.' He also outlined achievements that underscored GPS' and SUPP's continuous efforts in restoring Sarawak's rights. 'In 2021, the Federal Constitution was amended to restore Sabah and Sarawak's status as equal partners alongside Malaya (as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963). 'That same year, Sarawak amended its state constitution to replace the title of Chief Minister with Premier, reflecting its elevated constitutional status. 'In 2021, we also fought for Sarawak's right to define our own indigenous people without interference from the federal government. We define our indigenous people as native,' he said. He further mentioned that since 2019 until now, Sarawak continues to fight for its regulatory rights over oil and gas. 'We even formed Petros to be the sole aggregator for our gas distribution, and last month (May), our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg signed a joint declaration, recognising Sarawak gas distribution ordinance and our right over our gas, (with) Petros as the sole aggregator. 'All these achievements, we make Sarawak strong again — just through our petroleum product sales tax, we also generated a lot of revenues. From 2019 to 2023, we have generated RM16 billion in revenue. These accomplishments, achieved alongside SUPP, mark significant milestones for Sarawak,' he said. 'When we come to crossroads, SUPP was there together with other component parties (in GPS). So, we are there to defend Sarawak, safeguard Sarawak (rights),' he said. Regarding the celebration of Father's Day, he said it was important for fathers to pay attention to their children's feelings and ideas. 'In today's world, children encounter numerous challenges, particularly online, such as bullying and similar issues. 'It is the responsibility of parents to ensure the well-being of their children. Instead of constantly insisting on obedience from children, consider other approaches,' he advised. Among those speaking at the event were Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, SUPP Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong and SUPP Nangka chairman Chua Beng Seng. PBM to go it alone in Sabah polls, says party's sec-gen
SANDAKAN: Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), a party widely perceived as Sarawak-based, is reaffirming its intention to contest solo in the upcoming Sabah state election — maintaining that no political cooperation is being pursued at this stage. PBM secretary-general Munan Laja said the party is open to possibilities in the future, but for now will rely on its own grassroots machinery and local leaders to contest selected seats. 'So, we go solo. Not unless one day there is another picture coming. At the moment, we will go solo,' he told reporters after officiating the party's Jelajah PBM Sabah programme in Sandakan, on Sunday (June 15). Held at Hotel Gloria in Bandar Letat, the event also marked the launch of the Tanjung Papat PBM division, which has attracted over 1,300 members in just one month. Munan said the rapid growth in membership shows that Sabahans are responding positively to PBM's message, which centres on clean, community-based leadership. 'PBM is a new party with no excess baggage. The candidates are local people, fresh faces,' he said, adding that the party is still assessing suitable candidates from among its divisions. The party currently has seven active divisions in Sabah and intends to field candidates in those areas based on readiness and local support. Sabah PBM chairman Jupperi Lenson, meanwhile, denied claims that PBM is attempting to impose Sarawak-based leadership on Sabah, saying the party's multiracial and inclusive character makes it relevant nationwide. 'PBM is a national party... so the issue of whether we are a local or external party should not arise. What matters is the quality of leadership and an inclusive agenda,' he said. Jupperi said PBM had been preparing for the state election since 2022 and is now active in seven areas, including Tanjung Papat, Bandau, Kota Belud, Tuaran, Tulid, and Kundasang. He also said PBM is adapting the inclusive model it applied in Sarawak for Sabah's unique political landscape. 'There should be no issue about where a party originated from. What matters is its service to the people and its relevance. PBM is here to offer something different,' he said. Munan also reiterated that PBM will keep its options open if political dynamics shift before polling day.

Get your own platform, leave Dayak struggle to us, PBDS tells PBK
Dr John Brian Anthony KUCHING (June 16): Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) ought to stop leveraging on the Dayak struggle but instead focus on their own platform and objectives, said Dr John Brian Anthony. The Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) permanent chairman said the party took note of recent comments and gestures made by PBK on social media, apparently expressing support for certain positions already taken by PBDS. While acknowledging PBK's right to comment on public matters, he said it is PBDS' unwavering mission to represent, protect, and empower the Dayak people politically, economically, and culturally. 'Our struggle is rooted in the history, identity, and aspirations of the Dayak community, and we have paid the price of marginalisation to uphold our integrity and independence. 'We respectfully urge PBK and any other political entities to avoid using the Dayak cause as a political leverage point to gain popularity or score political mileage. 'If your cause is strong, let it stand on its own merit. Do not ride on the Dayak name without truly understanding or representing our struggles on the ground,' he said in a statement. John said Sarawakians deserve to see what PBK stands for in action and not merely by commenting on what other parties are doing. 'True collaboration among Sarawak-based parties must be based on mutual respect, clear boundaries, and recognition of each other's unique identity and struggles,' he added. Nevertheless, he said PBDS remains open to genuine dialogue and cooperation with any party that shares its values of justice, equity, and indigenous empowerment. However, he stressed that such cooperation must not be at the expense of the Dayak community's dignity or political autonomy. 'Let each party speak for its people, work on its mission, and be judged by its performance—not by political theatrics,' he said.
