Is ‘The Santa Clauses' returning for season 3? Everything we know so far
By Aman Shukla Published on June 17, 2025, 20:00 IST Last updated June 17, 2025, 16:45 IST Disney+'s The Santa Clauses has brought holiday cheer to families for two seasons, continuing the beloved story of Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) from the original Santa Clause movie trilogy. As fans eagerly await news about a potential third season, here's a rundown of everything we know so far about the future of this festive series. Will There Be The Santa Clauses Season 3? As of now, Disney+ has not officially confirmed or cancelled The Santa Clauses for a third season. The show's second season wrapped up in December 2023, and while fans hoped for a quick renewal like the one that followed Season 1, no official announcement has been made yet. However, there's reason to stay hopeful! Executive producer Jason Winer has shared optimism about the show's future, saying, 'The show is a giant hit for Disney+, and Season 3 feels… while it's never a certainty, it feels like we got a good shot.' This suggests that discussions are ongoing, and the series' strong fanbase could pave the way for more episodes. When Could The Santa Clauses Season 3 Premiere? If Disney renews The Santa Clauses soon, a release in late 2025 (November or December) is plausible, given the quick turnaround between Seasons 1 and 2. Season 2 was announced in December 2022 and premiered in November 2023, so a similar timeline could apply. However, if delays persist or Tim Allen's other projects take priority, fans might have to wait until 2026 for new episodes. What Might the Story Be About? The first two seasons of The Santa Clauses followed Scott Calvin as he searched for a successor to take over his Santa duties, while also exploring the magical growth of his children, Cal and Sandra. Season 2 ended with Scott defeating Magnus Antas, the Mad Santa (Eric Stonestreet), and focusing on training Cal to potentially become the next Santa. If Season 3 is greenlit, the story could dive deeper into Cal and Sandra's magical abilities. Tim Allen has teased a possible sci-fi twist, suggesting that Sandra's powers, which go beyond those of typical witches, could open up 'a whole other world.' This could bring a fresh, exciting angle to the series while keeping its family-friendly charm. Additionally, the show might introduce new holiday-themed characters, like trolls (hinted at in Season 2), or bring back familiar faces like Jack Frost (Martin Short) as a friendlier ally. Fans on Reddit have also expressed hopes for the return of characters like Mother Nature, Cupid, or Sandman from the original films. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Thanks to David Krumholtz of "The Santa Clause" fame, we've gotten our very first glimpse at the official logo for next year's "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow"... or perhaps just "Supergirl"? Krumholtz shared a picture of his set chair on his official Instagram page, announcing he'd wrapped his part of the film. The first image showed just his character's name - Zor-El, Supergirl's father - while the second unveiled the logo. You can see the images below. Supergirl. Supergirl. DC Comics The image shows the same S logo from the upcoming "Superman" but with "SUPERGIRL" blazoned across it. It begs the question of whether or not, like "Superman", which was originally going to be called "Superman: Legacy" - "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" has likewise changed its name to simply "Supergirl". Whatever it's called, when it bows next June, it won't be the first live-action "Supergirl" film. A "Supergirl" starring Helen Slater as the titular hero was released in 1984, spinning out of the film series starring Christopher Reeve. Unfortunately, the film only made $14.3 million, not even half of its $35 million production budget. More recently, a "Supergirl" TV series launched in 2015 on CBS with Melissa Benoist as the lead. The series eventually moved to The CW and crossed over with shows like "The Flash" and "Arrow." "Supergirl," the series lasted 6 seasons, shuttering in 2021. The official logline for "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" reads, "While celebrating her 21st birthday, Kara Zor-El travels across the galaxy with Krypto, during which she meets the young Ruthye and embarks on a 'murderous quest for revenge'." The film is based on the acclaimed 2021-22 miniseries of the same name, written by Tom King and drawn by Bilquis Evely. "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" releases in theaters June 26, 2026. The film is directed by Gillespie from a script by Ana Nogueira. The feature stars Milly Alcock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. While we have to wait until next year to meet Supergirl, we'll get to meet her cousin a lot sooner. James Gunn's long-awaited "Superman" hits theaters July 11 starring David Corenswet as the eponymous Man of Steel.
