KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government will continue to strengthen the implementation of inclusive and comprehensive development policies under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. According to the Chief Minister, the roadmap has shown results. 'We are seeing steady growth in investments and a rise in state revenue over the past few years,' he said. Hajiji said this during the State Honours and Awards investiture ceremony held at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Saturday (June 21), in conjunction with Sabah's Tuan Yang DiPertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman's 74th birthday. Hajiji stated that one of the initiatives for the agriculture sector was the establishment of the Sabah Paddy and Rice Board and the introduction of the Rice Crop Takaful Scheme. The state government had also approved the formation of the Sabah State TVET (Technical, Vocational Education and Training) Council. It would serve as a coordinating and monitoring platform for technical and vocational education and training. 'We want to ensure Sabah's youth are equipped with relevant knowledge and skills,' he added. Hajiji also said that the state is committed to maintaining ties and cooperation with the Federal Government. He thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Federal Government for their ongoing support in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security, as well as for their efforts in defending Sabah's sovereignty on the international stage. 'The success in repelling foreign claims over Sabah affirms our sovereignty within the Federation of Malaysia, giving the people of Sabah greater confidence and reassurance,' he said.

Sabah government remains committed to holistic development for people's wellbeing - Chief Minister

Hajiji delivering his address at the 74th official birthday celebration of the Head of State, Tun (Dr) Musa Aman, at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Saturday. KOTA KINABALU (June 21): The State Government remains steadfast in its commitment to driving inclusive and holistic development under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap, aimed at ensuring sustainable progress and the wellbeing of the people. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said the SMJ initiative has yielded significant impact since its introduction, particularly in economic recovery, investment growth, agriculture, human capital development and social welfare. 'Alhamdulillah, we are witnessing a surge in investment activity and an increase in state revenue over the past few years. This is a testament to the effectiveness of the government's strategic approach,' he said. Hajiji said this in his speech during the 74th official birthday celebration of the Head of State, Tun (Dr) Musa Aman, held at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Saturday. He emphasised that agriculture remains a key focus area for the State Government, as it plays a crucial role in strengthening food security in Sabah. Among the notable initiatives, he said, is the establishment of the Sabah Paddy and Rice Board (LPBS) and the launch of the Paddy Crop Takaful Scheme (STTP), which aims to raise the state's rice self-sufficiency level from the current 24 per cent in 2025 to 60 per cent by 2030. 'This is a strategic move to enhance Sabah's self-reliance in food production while reducing dependency on imports,' he stressed. In line with developing future-ready talent, Hajiji said human capital development, particularly among youth, remains high on the government's agenda through various empowerment programmes involving skills training, education, entrepreneurship, leadership and sports. The State Government, he added, has also approved the establishment of the Sabah State TVET Council as a coordinating and monitoring platform for technical and vocational education and training in line with industry demands. 'We want to ensure that Sabah's youth are equipped with relevant knowledge and skills to meaningfully contribute to the development of the state and the nation,' he said. On federal-state ties, Hajiji reiterated that the close cooperation and good relations with the Federal Government will continue to be upheld to ensure Sabah is not left behind in the national development agenda. He expressed appreciation for the Federal Government's various forms of assistance and initiatives, especially in areas such as infrastructure, health, education and security. Hajiji also thanked the Prime Minister for his firm stance in safeguarding Sabah's rights and sovereignty, including the recent success in fending off foreign claims against the state at the international level. 'Malaysia's success in defending Sabah from external claims affirms the state's sovereign status under the Malaysian Federation and provides reassurance and confidence to the people of Sabah,' he said. Hajiji also conveyed his heartfelt birthday wishes to Tun Musa in conjunction with his 74th official birthday and prayed for continued good health and blessings for him and Toh Puan. 'The State Government and the people of Sabah extend our deepest appreciation for Your Excellency's leadership and enduring service. May Allah SWT bless Tun with longevity and continued protection,' he said. The ceremony was attended by top state leaders, recipients of state honours and awards, heads of departments and invited dignitaries.

Sabah to revive rice production in food security push, says CM

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is reactivating efforts to boost local food production, including rice farming, as part of a broader push for food security. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the initiative at the state-level Kaamatan celebration, saying the festival serves as a timely reminder of the importance of agriculture. 'As we celebrate Kaamatan, we must also reflect on the significance of agriculture in our lives — especially padi farming, which has long been a symbol of our people's resilience,' he said in his speech during the launching ceremony of Pesta Kaamatan 2025 at the Hongkod Koisaan hall, on Friday (May 30). Hajiji said the state government is committed to strengthening Sabah's food supply chain by revitalising initiatives to increase local rice output and reduce reliance on imported food. These include the reactivation of the Sabah Paddy and Rice Board to improve the state's self-sufficiency level (SSL), with the aim of achieving 30% rice SSL by next year and 60% by 2030. 'These efforts are not just about economic sustainability — they are also about preserving our culture and heritage that revolve around rice and farming traditions,' he said. He added that the government is also focusing on improving the rural economy through modern agriculture, community-based tourism, and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), under the Sabah Maju Jaya development blueprint. Hajiji stressed that strong cooperation with the Federal Government would be crucial in ensuring that the state's development policies translate into tangible benefits for the people. 'I am confident that our close relationship with the federal government will help accelerate the success of our state development agenda,' he said. Beyond agriculture, Hajiji also emphasised that Kaamatan serves as a unifying force for Sabah's multicultural society, bringing people together in the spirit of harmony, respect, and mutual appreciation. 'This festival is a reflection of our unity in diversity — Kaamatan belongs to everyone, and through it, we celebrate not only the harvest but also the values of togetherness that bind us as Sabahans,' he said. He also noted that this year's Kaamatan marks the 65th celebration since its official introduction in 1960, with the theme 'Kaamatan Untuk Semua, Kaamatan For All, Kaamatan Montok Toinsanan'. The Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for gracing the celebration, calling his presence 'a meaningful gesture of support for Sabah's culture, people and aspirations.' Kaamatan, also known as the Harvest Festival, is an annual cultural event celebrated by the Kadazan Dusun and Murut communities and has grown to reflect the state's broader multicultural identity.
