The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), organiser of the event, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth and memorable experience for festivalgoers. Its team, alongside volunteers and vendors, has been working tirelessly on-site to ready the facilities and logistics for the thousands expected to attend. A visit by The Borneo Post to SCV today observed workers setting up food and merchandise booths, finalising the main stage structure, and marking out visitor pathways around the festival grounds. In line with its sustainability goals, the festival has announced that plastic beverage bottles will not be allowed within the grounds – part of a broader effort to reduce single-use plastics and promote environmental responsibility. Angie Bhasin Is Changing the CPA Game with Strategic Tax Planning at FinTax
When Angie Bhasin started her career in 2002, she believed, like most CPAs, that she was helping her clients by preparing their tax returns accurately and compliantly. But over time, she realized she wasn't helping them create wealth; she was simply recording history. Angie Bhasin "Traditional CPA work is about putting numbers in boxes," says Bhasin. "We are trained to be historians. But what small businesses and high earners really need is someone to help them create history proactively. It's not just about determining how much tax to pay, but to strategically plan and implement tax saving options to reduce the tax liability." That belief is what led Bhasin to found FinTax CPAs in 2018, a firm that specializes in tax planning and strategy. As one of the few certified tax strategists, in addition to being a CPA, Bhasin works not just to file tax returns but to help clients structure their businesses and financials in ways that legally minimize their tax burden. Her mission is clear: empower entrepreneurs with the same tools big corporations use so they can grow wealth more intentionally. "Billionaires don't just pay less in taxes by chance," she explains. "They have the right advisors, people reading the tax code and looking for opportunities. I believe small and medium-sized businesses deserve that same level of support." FinTax CPAs can help its clients acquire a significant return on investment. That's not a marketing gimmick. It's a bold promise based on real results. As part of the onboarding process, Bhasin conducts a complementary review of a client's previous tax return. "Returns tell a story," she says. "They show me income compositions, deductions, and, more importantly, missed opportunities." In one memorable case, a new client came to FinTax after working with a large, well-known accounting firm. Bhasin's team found a substantial amount in overpaid taxes for two previous years, mistakes that had nothing to do with strategic planning and everything to do with careless compliance. "I used to say anyone can do tax prep," Bhasin says, "but I stopped saying that after seeing how many firms miss critical details. Most firms are focused on compliance because they don't have the time, knowledge, or resources to look outside of the box to find opportunities within the Internal Revenue Code. We take a different approach." That approach is not one-size-fits-all. FinTax CPAs operates as a high-touch firm, working closely with a select number of clients on a quarterly basis. This ensures the strategy is not left until the end of the fiscal year when it's too late to make meaningful changes. "If you are handing over your documents in March and expecting miracles, it's almost always too late," Bhasin says. "Real planning and implementation is done throughout the year." For those who may not yet be a fit for FinTax's one-on-one services, Bhasin created an education platform: SnapIt Tax Boot Camp (STB). The online portal offers subscription-based courses to help business owners, real estate investors, and even other CPAs learn advanced, IRS-compliant tax strategies. The first course, focused on short-term rental strategies, is already live. FinTax CPAs "There are so many entrepreneurs who are hungry for knowledge but don't have access to real, actionable tax planning resources," Bhasin explains. "STB helps bridge that gap. It's my way of scaling education and helping more people benefit from the same principles I use with my clients." Bhasin is also passionate about mentoring fellow CPAs and helping them evolve beyond compliance work. She says, "I mentor CPAs to become tax strategists because our profession needs to change. Our clients deserve more than just paperwork; they need vision and guidance." That drive to lead meaningful change recently earned Bhasin a coveted industry award, The National Tax Planner of The Year, recognizing her as a standout innovator in the tax services sector. But accolades are secondary to impact. "The real reward is seeing a business reinvest the money we have saved them, hiring more staff, launching new products, putting their children through college, saving for retirement, or simply having peace of mind," she says. Not everyone is an ideal prospective client. Bhasin emphasizes a thorough vetting process to ensure alignment of goals, values, and expectations. "If we cannot deliver a substantial ROI, we're not a good fit. We don't want to be a cost to our clients, only an investment," she states. That commitment to both education and elite service is what makes FinTax CPAs a rarity in the tax world. It's not just a firm. It's a movement, a movement that emphasizes that tax filings are the end product of the financial process. Strategic growth starts with the design of the customized tax plan and the implementation thereof. "When I show someone how much they've been leaving on the table, it's not just about dollars," Bhasin says. "It's about dignity. It's about helping them realize that with the right knowledge and guidance, they can keep more of what they earn and build the future they actually want." With FinTax CPAs and SnapIt Tax Boot Camp, Angie Bhasin is proving that tax planning, done right, is about empowerment in addition to the immense savings that can be achieved.

Korean arrivals to Sarawak up 20 pct, as STB strengthens North East Asia push
Visitors engage with STB delegates at the STB booth during the SITF 2025 held in South Korea. KUCHING (June 14): A total of 12,972 Korean tourists visited Sarawak in 2023, marking a 20 per cent increase compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019, according to the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB). The board attributed the steady growth to its sustained marketing campaigns and digital outreach targeting the Korean market. 'The momentum was further strengthened by Post-Event Product Updates held in Seoul and, for the first time, Busan from June 9 to 10. 'The Busan session marked a historic first outreach in South Korea's second-largest city, reinforcing our commitment to expanding beyond capital-centric tourism promotion,' said STB in a statement issued in conjunction with the Seoul International Travel Fair (SITF) 2025, held June 5-8, where the board accelerated its presence in North East Asia markets. According to STB, this marks a significant milestone in its wider regional strategy, to strengthen its footprint across strategic market clusters particularly within the broader North East Asia region. The ongoing efforts in South Korea also reflect STB's growing momentum ahead of its participation at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai — a global platform to further elevate Sarawak's presence in the North East Asia market and beyond, said the board. SITF 2025 marked Sarawak's third consecutive participation at South Korea's largest tourism exhibition, which also celebrated its 40th anniversary. STB strengthens ties with Korean travel trade partners at B2B sessions in Seoul and Busan, promoting Sarawak as the 'Gateway to Borneo.' 'Sarawak's colourful showcase featured cultural performances and interactive experiences that brought the state's Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food and Festivals (CANFF) pillars to life,' said STB. The Product Updates attracted top-tier outbound travel agents, providing firsthand insights into Sarawak's latest offerings through presentations, destination briefings and curated networking sessions. Sarawak's delegation featured tourism players including Innosar Holiday, Grand Margherita Hotel & Riverside Majestic Hotels, and the Sarawak Golf Tourism Association, each presenting fresh travel packages tailored for Korean travellers. To amplify awareness, STB launched Korean-language Facebook and Instagram pages and collaborated with local influencers to extend digital reach. The Sarawak Pavilion at SITF buzzed with traditional dance, interactive displays and live booth content, drawing thousands of Korean visitors over the four-day fair. Beyond South Korea, STB is also ramping up preparations for its participation in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai, aligning with Malaysia's national branding and positioning Sarawak gastronomy. 'This initiative marks a key expansion of STB's focus into North East Asia, with Japan identified as a high-value market for long-haul travellers seeking authentic experiences in Southeast Asia,' said STB. With Visit Malaysia Year 2026 on the horizon, STB's integrated approach aims to solidify Sarawak's reputation as the Gateway to Borneo and a must-visit destination in Asia, added the statement. When "Just for Fun" Meets AI Tech: Singapore Tourism Board and Mafengwo Explore New Ways to Travel in the Future
SINGAPORE, June 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 10th, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Mafengwo jointly hosted the "#AnywayIt'sFun Inspiration Renewal Journey" event in Beijing. Centered around the themes of "contrast, novelty, and social connection," the event showcased the diverse charm of Singapore travel through an immersive Nanyang-style experience, a friendly roundtable discussion, and stories shared by travel influencers. Mafengwo unveiled its latest AI-powered cultural and creative product, powered by its self-developed AI model for travel industry, offering tourists a glimpse into the future of "smart travel." In recent years, Chinese travelers have increasingly sought deeper, more personalized travel experiences rather than chasing popular attractions. According to user data from Mafengwo's "AI Travel Assistant for Singapore", travelers' preferences to Singapore are becoming more nuanced and segmented. Families with children care about "queue times at attractions" and "stroller rentals," young travelers seek out "trendy cafés" and "Peranakan culture check-ins," while seniors prioritize "barrier-free facilities." "To meet these needs, Singapore has introduced five themed travel profiles," explained Mr. Andrew Phua, STB's Chief Representative and Executive Director of Greater China, during the roundtable. "Health-conscious travelers can explore Sentosa's rainforest ecosystem through immersive guided tours. Food lovers may try the uniquely flavored coffee pork ribs. Urban explorers can marvel at prehistoric wonders at the new Jurassic World: The Exhibition at Gardens by the Bay. Experience-seekers can feel the pulse of Formula 1 and enjoy live performances at the Singapore Grand Prix. Meanwhile, senior travelers may enjoy the tranquility and joy of traditional embroidery workshops. By combining AI technology with tourism products, we can provid endless possibilities aligned with the "Just for Fun" spirit. " "AI travel assistants—whether in the form of digital itineraries or creative cultural products—are more than tools. They are triggers for travel inspiration," said Chen Gang, CEO of Mafengwo. He elaborated on how AI is reshaping travel in the era of hyper-independent travel and introduced "AI XiaoXinxin," an AI assistant in plush doll form. It could seamlessly answer Singapore-related travel questions from both the host and guests, while also acting as a fun companion for photos and emotional support on trips. The AI Travel Itinerary tool ("AI Roadbook") offers exhaustive pre-trip planning support. Chen Gang demonstrated when prompted with "a 5-day in-depth cultural trip with parents," the system generated a thoughtfully balanced itinerary including Chinese heritage tours in Chinatown, local coffee culture, traditional crafts, and old-school cafés. Each section comes with budget allocations from economical to premium tiers. Especially for senior travelers, it introduces features like Singapore's "Green Man+" system and Silver Zones—facilities designed to enhance elderly convenience—thus easing planning anxiety. "Additionally, the newly launched real-time translation tool by AI Xiaoma eliminates the hassle of typing; users can simply press and speak into two microphones alternately on the same screen for seamless multilingual interaction." Two Mafengwo's influencers (Feng Shou) shared what "Just for Fun" means to them in Singapore. Geotechnical engineer and super dad Ren Yuan Tai Shan reflected on how he once fixated on rigid itineraries, but now treasures spontaneous moments—like chatting with local elders while enjoying fish ball noodles with his child near HDB flats. Meanwhile, first-time visitor and ski coach Yi Yun looked forward to zoning out, sipping Kopi, and strolling around the vibrant, sun-soaked streets, hoping to stumble upon delightful surprises. Beyond savoring local dishes at the Peranakan Flavor Remix Booth and creating handmade crafts at the Nanyang Mini Workshop, the appearance of the AI-powered "Xiaoma Robot" dressed in Singapore-themed outfits brought the event to a peak. Like travelers just back from Singapore, these robots offered guests a quirky, smart, and whimsical travel encounter. As long-term strategic partners, STB and Mafengwo have previously precisely reached family and young traveler segments through campaigns like "The Best Summer Homework" and "Jackson Wang's Itinerary," pioneering the integration of the latest technology into travel as the first overseas destination AI partner. The launch of this AI travel companion marks a significant transition in their collaboration from "content marketing" to " intelligent services." It is understood that both parties will continue to upgrade the AI companion's features to empower the "Just for Fun" philosophy, enabling travelers to enjoy both meticulous planning and unexpected discoveries around every corner in their Singapore journey.
