Father and son jailed after inventing story over crash which seriously injured woman
A father and son have both been jailed after inventing a story over a crash which left a woman seriously injured in Buckley-Barber, 19, was driving at high speeds and 'showing off' when he overturned his car into a watery ditch in Pevensey in April 2023. A female passenger in the car suffered serious injuries. Instead of calling the emergency services, the then 17-year-old called his father, Jason Barber. Barber, 46, drove his son home first before taking the woman to hospital. While in the car, the woman could hear the father and son inventing a story, claiming the car had been forced off the road to avoid hitting an animal. After the woman was brought into A&E at Eastbourne District General Hospital, staff reported the crash to police. Officers later went to Barber's address, but he told officers he didn't know where his son was. At the scene of the crash, beer cans were recovered from around the Ford Escort, and Buckley-Barber had been with friends at a party earlier in the night. The teenager was not found that night, and only called police 12 hours later where he repeated the made-up story. Phones were seized from the father and son, and revealed that Barber sent a text message to a friend, claiming he 'hid' his son from police on the night they were looking for him. Mobile phone footage also showed Buckley-Barber's "reckless" driving shortly before the crash. Inspector Vicki Rees, Sussex Police Luic Buckley-Barber, 19, of Maresfield Drive, Pevensey, pleaded guilty to causing serious injuries by dangerous driving and was sentenced to one year and four months in prison, and was disqualified from driving for three years. Jason Barber, 46, of the same address, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison. Speaking after the case, PC Jessica Crump from the Roads Policing Unit said: 'The father and son showed no regard for the victim's welfare that night, and only looked out for their own interests. 'Dangerous driving is one of the fatal five offences that cause deaths and injuries on our roads. 'Luic decided to drive dangerously behind the wheel, with another person's life in his hands. He had not maintained his vehicle in a good state of repair, and was extremely lucky he did not cause a fatality that night."

'Much-loved' mum-of-three, 32, dies in A98 crash near Buckie
A 32-year-old woman who died in a crash on the A98 was a 'much-loved' mum-of-three. Amanda Lawson, from Mosstodloch, was involved in the collision near Buckie on Tuesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has now shared a tribute through the police, saying she will be 'sorely missed'. They said: 'Amanda was a much-loved partner and mother to three young boys. 'She will be sorely missed by family and friends. 'We would ask that our privacy is respected at this time and we and her young family are allowed to grieve.' The crash involved a white Vauxhall Insignia and a blue Peugeot 2008 and took place at about 12.30pm on Tuesday. It also claimed the life of 77-year-old Janet Cowie, who was a passenger in the Peugeot. Several people from the community have paid tribute in recent days, describing her as a 'gem' of a woman with a 'heart of gold'. Her husband, Gordon Cowie, was taken by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. The former Moray councillor, also 77, remains in hospital undergoing treatment. Police are continuing their investigation into the crash. Sergeant Dave Cooper, of the Roads Policing Unit in Elgin, said: 'Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of both women who died. 'Inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and we ask anyone who can assist who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch. The crash occurred on Tuesday, June 11 during the late morning, and the van driver was airlifted to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. A 21-year-old lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation. A spokesperson for North Wales Police's Roads Policing Unit said: 'A man remains in hospital with serious injuries following yesterday's road traffic collision in St Asaph.' 'Officers responded along with the Welsh Ambulance Service and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the driver of the van was airlifted to hospital in Stoke by the Air Ambulance. Police could not find the motorcycle when they arrived at the scene. South Wales Police are investigating the 11am crash on Sunday, June 1, on Ty Draw Road, at Bonymaen Cross. The force said the crash involved a Vauxhall Vivaro van and an electric off road motorcycle. Following the collision, the 27-year-old riding the motorcycle suffered serious injuries, and had to be taken to a hospital. His injuries are thought to not be life-changing. The force is investigating the incident and its officers are trying to locate the motorcycle involved in crash which the force said had been taken from the scene before officers arrived. Woman dies after crash on Welsh road
A woman has died following a crash in Anglesey. The single-vehicle collision happened on the A5 between Valley and Holyhead in an area known as The Cob. It took place sometime between 11pm on Saturday, May 31 and 12.14am on Sunday, June 1. Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to hospital, where she sadly died. Her family has been informed. Sergeant Leigh McCann of the North Wales Police roads crime unit is appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward. He said: 'I am urging anybody who may have been in the area at the time, anybody who witnessed the collision, or anyone who saw a black Citroen C3 being driven in the area between these times, to contact us. 'I am also asking anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage of the vehicle to get in touch. 'Our thoughts are with the lady's family at this very difficult time, who are being supported by officers.'
