Brittany Renner posts without hijab for first time in almost a year, sparks mixed reactions online
Brittany Renner, who recently confirmed her divorce from rapper Kevin Gates after just 52 days of marriage, took to Instagram to clarify her stance on several issues, including her journey with Islam and what seem s to be her decision to remove her hijab. Renner's whirlwind relationship with Gates, which started earlier this year, ended just over a month after their marriage, drawing attention due to the brevity of the union and her public conversion to Islam in January. In a recent Instagram post, Renner shared a video of herself without the hijab, accompanied by a message expressing her unwillingness to conform to others' expectations. The video featured a bold text overlay, which read, 'I'm not interested in shrinking myself to fit in anywhere.' In the caption, Renner reinforced her message, writing, "I don't have blind loyalty to any person, place, or thing. I also don't need excuses to do what I want to do because I accept whatever comes behind my decisions. It's still Alhamdulillah for everything! Hope this helps 👁️👄👁️." This post served as a statement of empowerment, showing her decision-making process and emphasizing personal autonomy over societal pressures. Renner's decision to publicly remove the hijab came shortly after she confirmed the details of her brief marriage to Gates. During an interview with Real 92.3 LA, Renner explained that the couple had married on April 6 and divorced on May 28. She also mentioned the Islamic 90-day waiting period required after a marriage, which allows for reconciliation or confirmation of pregnancy, but this period ended without them reconciling. According to Renner, this timeframe is meant to give couples a chance to reassess their relationship, and she used this period as a "90-day reset" to focus on herself. Despite the marriage's short duration, she stated that she had no regrets and was comfortable with her decisions, noting that Islam had made a positive impact on her life. Her decision to remove the hijab after converting to Islam earlier this year has generated mixed reactions on social media. Some people speculated that the move was tied to her divorce from Gates, while others defended her right to make her own choices. I try not to judge but the fact that Brittany Renner came out of that hijab soon as she broke up with Kevin Gates is insane lol. The fact that you are on national television portraying a 'Muslim' woman is surprising. First of all, playing with faith is quite serious. Secondly, we know that everyone has their own ways, but to be cussing up a storm and trying to fight while wearing a hijab is… — Terrance (@frankjrocean) June 17, 2025 One commenter acknowledged the difficulty of wearing the hijab for many Muslims, writing, "Most of us born Muslims struggle with Hijab. Islam is and will always be perfect, Muslims are not." This response highlighted the ongoing struggles that many Muslim women face regarding the hijab and expressed support for Renner's personal journey. Supporters on social media also applauded Renner for her honesty and self-empowerment, with one person commenting, 'The most beautiful part of getting to the destination is the journey! You're so beautiful girl.' Another added, 'Muslims don't always wear hijabs,' underscoring that wearing the hijab is a personal decision and not a requirement for every Muslim woman. Renner's candidness about her choices and her ongoing evolution has earned her admiration, with many expressing pride in her openness and resilience.

How Florida's Attempt to Let Teens Sleep Longer Fell Apart
Florida's brief attempt to let high school students sleep longer began two years ago when one of the state's most powerful politicians listened to an audiobook. The book, 'Why We Sleep,' argues that sufficient sleep is fundamental to nearly every aspect of human functioning. Paul Renner, then the Republican speaker of the State House, said reading it turned him into a 'sleep evangelist'; he started tracking his own sleep and pressing the book on other lawmakers. To give teenagers more time to rest, he pushed for a new law that would require public high schools to start no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and middle schools no earlier than 8 a.m. In 2023, Florida became only the second state — after California, its political opposite — to adopt such a requirement, and it asked schools to comply by 2026. 'School start times are one of those issues that both Republicans and Democrats can get behind,' Mr. Renner said in an interview. This year, it all fell apart. Facing growing opposition from school administrators who said the later times were unworkable and costly, the Legislature repealed the requirement last month. Florida's experiment was over before it began, an example of a policy driven by a single powerful lawmaker that flopped once he was termed out of office. It also illustrates how, even as concerns grow about the well-being of American teenagers, a modest scheduling shift with broad support from scientific and medical experts can struggle to gain traction. MOVIE REVIEW: We decide if AI-themed sci-fi-thriller 'Renner' is worth switching on
Dull then mean-spirited, you'll want to pull the plug long before the end credits roll. Sci-fi-thriller Renner sees the titular computer genius (Frankie Muniz) create AI life coach Salenus (voiced by Marcia Gay Harden) to help him find love. But when next-door neighbour Jamie (Violett Beane) comes into his well-ordered life, things quickly begin to unravel. Renner is a strange film that takes the topical AI technology and doesn't do much with it until the latter stages. Salenus is a giant glass eye who turns out to be slightly manipulative but a long way off M3GAN or Skynet. Most of the runtime in Robert Rippberger's ( Those Who Walk Away) flick is full of awkward conversations and, apart from brief ventures into a corridor, his characters never leave their apartments. There is actually a five-minute story about the board game Monopoly - yes, really. The nervy Renner has OCD and is a germophobe and Muniz proves capable of portraying this nebbish side but the incredibly forced angry rants that burst from his mouth at times just don't suit the former Malcolm in the Middle. Beane was better in Drop and Truth or Dare, however, she deals with Jamie's character shifts very capably. Rippberger's use of UV light in certain scenes feels like a feeble effort to make the movie look futuristic - truthfully it could be set any time from the past few years. Shots of Renner's morning routine become supremely repetitive and as the film went on it entered my mind it would have worked better as a 40-minute Twilight Zone episode. The final third 'reveal' is less surprising than another Love Island couple break-up. Blood randomly starts flowing thick and fast which really jars with everything we've previously watched. Dull and then mean-spirited, you'll want to pull the plug on Renner and its average AI long before the end credits roll. ● Do you have any favourite AI-themed films? Pop me an email at and I will pass on your comments – and any movie or TV show recommendations you have – to your fellow readers. Stevie Bishop got in touch to say: 'Mobland on Amazon Prime is superb. It has such a great cast and the storylines are full of surprises.' ● Renner is screening on Amazon Prime Video now.

Jeremy Renner recalls snow plough ordeal: "I felt On fire, electrocuted, and melting all at once"
Hollywood star felt as if he was "on fire and electrocuted and melting" all at once after his snow plough accident. He shared that he had nothing to do but "breathe" his way through the pain. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The 54-year-old actor broke 38 bones in his body and sustained a collapsed lung and lacerated liver after being crushed by his snowcat in January 2023. Speaking on UK TV show The One Show, Renner said: "What is the alternative in that situation when your nerve-endings are on fire, and electrocuted and melting, and drowning, all of it all at once, it was confusing. "The only thing I wasn't doing was breathing, pain is just pain, essentially, so I had to breathe otherwise I would pass out, my organs would fail and I'd die. That's why the book is the My Next Breath, it's the fight to exhale, then inhale, not realising that the ribcage is collapsed and the lung was punctured." The actor added: "My eyeball came out, when you can see your eye with your other eye, it's like 'Okay...'" Renner is the oldest of seven siblings, and recalled that attending antenatal classes with his mother when she was pregnant was what gave him the power to know just how important breath control was in that moment, reports He said: "Not a lot of 12-year-old boys get that opportunity, but, ironically, it was probably the thing that gave me the confidence to understand the power that you're mitigating pain with breath. "And believing in that, knowing that, seeing it first hand with my mom in labour. Feeding her ice chips to get her to breathe right and all these things." The actor said that was essentially what he had to do. "I had to breathe to stay alive, but it also helped mitigate my pain. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It took so much energy to focus on the breath that I didn't have to worry about my eye or my twisted-up legs or that the bones were broken. I wasn't even focusing on or feeling that, I had to breathe. He added: "If you can't breathe, you're drowning, right? It doesn't take very much time to drown so when you're there for 45 minutes, you're really trying to figure out your next breath and that's all that mattered. I don't even call it an because it wasn't, it was an incident."

Brittany Renner confirms her divorce to Kevin Gates. ‘I followed my heart'
Brittany Renner said she followed her heart and is getting divorced. (Warning: The below link contains language some may find offensive.) In a recent radio interview with REAL 92.3 LA, the 33-year-old 'Basketball Wives' star revealed that she and her husband, rapper Kevin Gates, are officially going their separate ways. 'We got married April 6 and divorced May 28,' Renner said in the interview, which aired June 7. The social media star says the couple must now enter a 90-day waiting period. The waiting period, known as iddah in Islam, is meant to ensure that a woman is not pregnant. Renner converted to Islam in August 2024, per Complex. 'And then also in those 90 days it's for reconciliation, because Allah wants you to stay married,' Renner explained. 'During those 90 days, you are not to entertain anybody romantically.' Renner and Gates, who converted to Islam in 2016, went Instagram official in April, according to E! News. The couple sparked engagement rumors the following month after Renner appeared at the season 12 premiere of 'Basketball Wives,' which aired May 5, with a ring on her ring finger. Renner later referred to Gates as her husband in a since-deleted Instagram post May 4, per E! News. 'You don't fit on this show and that's why you're a fit for this show,' Brittany wrote in the caption. 'Last night at the #BasketballWives Season 12 premiere party with my huzband.' Renner says she's looking forward to a 'nice 90-day reset' With her 52-day marriage in the rear-view mirror, Renner says she now wants to focus on herself. 'I followed my heart,' she said in her interview with REAL 92.3 LA. 'And that's more than what most people can say in this world.' She goes on to add that she doesn't view the divorce as a bad situation and is ready to move on. 'I don't think anybody gets married to not stay married. So, I think my biggest thing for me is just a nice 90 day reset. Focusing on myself and pouring into myself,' she explained. She said 'what is meant to be is always gonna be.' The divorce comes roughly one month after Renner gushed about Gates in an interview with People. 'I'm with the person that I quite literally dreamed of,' she said in the interview, published May 5. 'And to be able to just wake up next to him and spend time with him, even to have him here behind me, it's like so surreal,' she added. 'He's just the most beautiful person inside and out that I've ever met.' At the time, Renner said that the couple weren't concerned about what the future holds. 'I think that's where people get a little lost,' she told People. 'Like, we gotta stay present and I feel like when we get too far ahead, we don't live in the now and have fun in the now and pour in each other into each other in the now,' she continued. The pair don't share any children together, but Renner does have a 4-year-old son, P.J. Washington III, with NBA player P.J. Washington.
