Ruben Amorim told he faces Man Utd sack and it could come sooner than he thinks
Ruben Amorim has endured a torrid time in charge of Manchester United since being appointed in November and could quickly find himself under pressure next season without improvement Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been warned he could soon be under pressure at Old Trafford if he does not start next season well. The Portuguese head coach saw the Red Devils finish 15th last season following his first months in charge. Amorim arrived in November to replace Erik ten Hag, just months after the Dutch coach signed a new deal with the club. And while under contract until 2027, the former Sporting boss will find plenty of scrutiny have failed to improve United's form during his time at the club so far. The 40-year-old guided United to the final of the Europa League but c ould not prevent them missing out on European qualification as his team struggled to put a run of wins together. But this summer will provide the f irst opporunity for Amorim to spend pre-season with his squad to implement his methods. United's spending has already proven significant with the addition of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. The club could yet land Bryan Mbeumo and another striker in the transfer market too. And former United coach Rene Meulensteen reckons Amorim will need to hit the ground running in 2024/25. If not, the Dutch coach believes that his position may be in jeopardy before the end of the year. "If things carry on into next season and getting towards Christmas, Ruben Amorim's job will be on the line," Meulensteen told InstantWithdrawalBettingSites. "The club hierarchy will have no choice but to discuss if he is the right man going forward after how badly last season went – that's why a good start to the season is a must." Meulensteen suggests that Amorim's rigid style could yet hold the team back, even with the club's activity in the transfer market. The current players linked do not fix all of United's issues in the mind of Alex Ferguson's former assistant. "When you're managing Manchester United the target should always be to win the title, but if Ruben Amorim said that now then people would think he is mad," he added. "If United somehow get to Christmas with only one or two draws and defeats then people might think the club are back, but I can't see it happening because Amorim is stuck in his system and they are massively vulnerable. "I think if United start the season with Andre Onana and Harry Maguire in defence then there will still be a lot of question marks in the unit and other teams will take advantage of that. "You can strengthen with Viktor Gyokeres, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo alongside Bruno Fernandes but the midfield and the defence will still be overrun. "The minimum has to be to get back into the Champions League, but Amorim has to be careful because not having an adaptable system is not a clever thing to do. You have to be flexible and be able to adapt when needed." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Rashford's strict transfer rules leave Man Utd with one option over summer exit
Marcus Rashford is expected to be shown the Manchester United exit door this summer but the Red Devils academy graduate is rapidly running out of options for his next club Marcus Rashford might only have one Manchester United exit option left after already ruling out three Premier League rivals. The Red Devils academy graduate is fully expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after an explosive season. He was axed from the squad entirely by Ruben Amorim before joining Aston Villa on loan. Villa had a £40m option to make the deal permanent but despite his promising displays in the Midlands, they chose not to re-sign him. That has left Rashford in an uncertain position regarding his future but even then, Rashford has a list of criteria for his next club. According to the Manchester Evening News, the forward is not prepared to take a wage cut on his current £325,000-a-week package, which only a few clubs could afford. It is suggested that Rashford has already turned down moves to both Saudi Arabia and Turkey. He is open to a rival Premier League side but he does not want to move to London, which would see the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all out of the race for his services. It is further detailed that United chiefs expect Rashford to move abroad having put a move to Barcelona at the top of his list. The Catalan giants have an interest in Rashford but are currently attempting to thrash out a deal for Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams which will stretch their finances. A loan move now looks to be the only route out of Old Trafford for Rashford this summer. And he will hope to get his future sorted soon after Ruben Amorim made his feelings about a reintegration into the squad very clear. The United boss banished the forward alongside three colleagues from the club's pre-season tour alongside Antony, Alejando Garnacho and Jadon Sancho. Explaining Rashford's initial omission back in February, Amorim said: "What I say is I couldn't put Marcus to see the way you're supposed to play football and to train the way I see it. "And sometimes you have one player who is really good with one coach and the same player with another coach is different. I just wish the best to Rashford and Unai Emery, and they can connect because he's a very good player." Where do you think Marcus Rashford should go? Share your thoughts in the comments below He added: "The case was some of the guys don't adapt the way I see football, the other guys adapt, and we are trying to build the team. It's something that you feel, as a coach and a player. "It's quite normal, it happened with a lot of coaches. The important thing is that I'm here saying it was my decision." Ruben Amorim to brutally 'axe four Manchester United stars' from pre-season tour
Manchester United could be set to bid farewell to some huge players this summer with Ruben Amorim seemingly nudging some towards the Old Trafford exit door before the Red Devils return Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are among four misfits set to be axed from Manchester United 's pre-season tour. The Red Devils are set to travel to the US in July for a clutch of lucrative matches as part of their preparations for the new campaign. They will take on Premier League rivals West Ham United, Bournemouth and Everton as part of that tour. But Ruben Amorim is set to take a brutal approach to his squad with many stars expected to leave Old Trafford this summer. According to The Sun, four out-of-favour stars are set to be left behind at Carrington for the tour should they fail to seal moves away from United before then. That includes academy graduate Rashford after Aston Villa turned down the chance to sign him permanently following his loan spell. The forward has since been linked with Barcelona. He is set to be joined by Jadon Sancho after he too saw a permanent move to Chelsea collapse following a loan spell last season. Napoli have since emerged for his services but are struggling to afford his wages as it stands. Alejandro Garnacho also faces little prospect of a future at United - the Argentine having also been linked with Napoli. The final player that Amorim wants to leave behind is Antony. The Brazilian winger has struggled since his big-money move from Ajax and while he impressed with Real Betis last term, the Spanish side are yet to make a renewed move. Explaining Amorim's hardline stance, a source quoted by The Sun said: 'Amorim is stamping his authority on the club. It was hard arriving mid-season but he now has the opportunity to shape the team in his image. And he's wasting no time. 'He only wants players who would die for the shirt and are on board with his ideas. He also wants a smaller squad to create an intimate team bond so that everyone gets enough game time to be at peak fitness when called upon. He doesn't want any bad apples or distractions.' Who else should Man United sign this summer? Share your thoughts in the comments below While Amorim is set to axe a few faces from his squad for United's pre-season commitments, there could also be a few new additions to the squad. Matheus Cunha is due to join up with the Red Devils following his £62.5m move from Wolves. He could yet be joined by Bryan Mbeumo, who remains at the heart of a tug of war between United and Tottenham. As it stands, he favours a move to Old Trafford but United chiefs are yet to agree terms with the Bees over the Cameroon forward. Teddy Sheringham hits out at Man Utd chief Omar Berrada's ‘dreamlike' comments
The Red Devils are reeling from their worst top-flight campaign in 51 years after they stumbled home 15th and missed out on European football by losing the Europa League final to Tottenham. Rivals Liverpool rubbed salt into the wound by equalling United's record of 20 English league titles – their second since the Old Trafford club last lifted the Premier League when Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out as champion in 2013. Ruben Amorim's side look some way off challenging and fulfilling the club's 'Project 150' vision to mark their 150th anniversary in 2028 by winning both the men's and women's league titles. Chief executive Berrada this month underlined his confidence in fulfilling the goal and told United We Stand 'I firmly believe that we can do it' – but Sheringham thinks such a timescale can be unhelpful. 'Omar Berrada's comments are dreamlike,' the former United striker told Sky Bet. 'In football clubs, you've got to have small steps to get to places and if you see those small steps and are encouraged and moving in the right direction, that's when you start looking positively (at the future). 'But when people come out with quotes like that, it can be pie in the sky when you've got to give the manager time to get things right.' Quite whether Amorim will get that patience and belief is another thing given the Portuguese's struggles since taking charge in November. The United head coach retains the hierarchy's backing, but Sheringham says he can ill afford a slow start to the season. 'For Manchester United, the results must improve,' the 1999 treble winner said. 'It can't go on like this. 'The way the talk is – 'it's alright, we're gearing for next year, everything is OK for next season' – but I think they're a long way off being anything like the Manchester United of old and the pressure will be on Ruben Amorim, without a doubt. 'If he starts the season like the end of last season, there is only one way things will go.' Sheringham hopes United come out 'all guns blazing and rip Arsenal apart' in their season opener on August 17, when Amorim will be hoping to have more firepower in place. Matheus Cunha has joined from Wolves and the Red Devils are pushing to sign Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, but questions remain about the striker position given Rasmus Hojlund's struggles 'We've been speaking about Rasmus Hojlund for a good couple of years now,' Sheringham said. 'First and foremost, I still think he's a decent striker, I just think he's been starved of service at Manchester United. 'The way they play, they play with two out-and-out wingers, no real support apart from Bruno Fernandes getting forward. It's all about the service for centre-forwards and he's had none. 'I struggle to think about any striker that you could put in there, that would suffer from the same service and still score goals. 'You'd have to be some player like Didier Drogba who did things on his own at times, to score goals. Being a young man as Hojlund is and coming into a new country and into the Premier League, trying to understand it, I think he's had a tough ride.'
