PUMA reintroduces Mostro collection with influencer collabs, activation

PUMA Middle East has reintroduced its Mostro sneaker not with nostalgia, but a statement. The brand's latest campaign, Mostroverse, is a cultural manifesto that aims to be less about product and more about people. Inspired by creativity, personal expression and identity, the campaign gives centre stage to a new wave of regional creatives in an effort to redefine what it means to be seen. With social videos directed by Palestinian-Jordanian photographer Omar Sha3, produced by Dubai-based ECHO Agency and creatively conceptualised by M+C Saatchi Group Middle East, the launch was further supported with an in-person activation at Dubai's Mall of the Emirates. 'Drawing from underground and avant-garde culture, the campaign highlights regional creatives who break norms and redefine style on their own terms,' said Zarah Rashid, PR Manager, PUMA GCC. 'The message at its core is simple but powerful: true style comes from fearless self-expression. PUMA wanted to create the 'Mostroverse' where individuality isn't just welcomed, it's celebrated,' she said. View this post on Instagram A post shared by JUNAYNAH EL GUTHMY (@junaynaah) The campaign unfolds across the cityscape of Dubai, with abstract visuals and layered voice overs that pull the audience inside each artist's creative world, to support the Mostro drop. Inspired by underground 'street culture' and a flair for the avant-garde, the social videos feature creators such as Parvané Barret, Karrouhat, Junaynah El Guthmy, Jullz, Huda Shahin and Helena Shahin. Rashid explained that beyond brand awareness and sales uplift, the campaign seeks to build emotional brand equity. 'The campaign aims to spark cultural relevance and boost brand awareness by aligning PUMA with the region's creative vanguard,' she said. 'There's also a longer-term goal of building community and brand loyalty by connecting deeply with creatives who are shaping the region's cultural narrative,' she added. Bringing the concept to life beyond the screens, PUMA is hosting an activation near its store at Dubai's Mall of the Emirates from June 13 to June 26. The immersive brand experience invites consumers to step into the Mostroverse, where they can play a 10-second long game to stand a chance to win a fresh pair of Mostro shoes and other PUMA merchandise. As the campaign rolls out across the region, Rashid tells Campaign Middle East exclusively that a soon to release collaboration with Saudi Arabia's Warcheiff is also in the works. 'Set entirely in Riyadh, from its sleek skyline to the cultural heart of the JAX District, the film is a visual mixtape that captures the daring spirit of movement and creative freedom,' Rashid shared. In terms of results, 'early feedback from social platforms and creative communities were positive,' said Rashid. 'Many praised the campaign's authentic representation of regional talent and its refreshing break from commercial norms.' Rashid also added an unexpected result from the Mostroverse campaign. 'Viewers were particularly drawn to the storytelling format — not just the visuals, but the voices and personal narratives,' she said. UAE: Sharjah court convicts school staff in death of 8-year-old Indian student Rashid Habib

CCTV footage showed 8-year-old Rashid Habib was left unescorted from the school bus and collapsed while walking alone to class/ Image: (File) A Sharjah court has convicted two school staff members of negligence in the death of eight-year-old Indian student Rashid Habib, more than a year after he tragically died following a fall at his school in Muwaileh. The Sharjah Federal Court of Appeal overturned an earlier acquittal by a lower court and ordered the defendants to pay Dh200,000 in legal blood money to the boy's family. Additionally, each staff member was fined Dh2,000. The court found that the two staffers had failed in their duty to escort and monitor students from the school bus to their classrooms. CCTV footage reviewed during the investigation showed that Rashid was left unaccompanied at the time of the incident. The Grade 1 student collapsed while walking alone to his classroom on 11 March 2024, the first day of Ramadan, shortly after arriving at the CBSE-curriculum school. He was rushed to Al Qassimi Hospital in a state of cardiac arrest but was declared dead despite resuscitation attempts. A forensic report from Sharjah Police stated that Rashid had sustained a bruise on his face, a fractured cheekbone, internal bleeding under the scalp, and severe brain injuries, including swelling and bleeding. Surveillance footage confirmed that no school staff were present with the children during the incident. The footage also showed that another child had attempted to hit Rashid moments before he fell. However, the crucial seconds capturing the exact moment of the fall were missing. The appeal court ruled that the staff's absence amounted to gross negligence, emphasising that the accident could likely have been prevented had the staff been present. Rashid's father, Habib Yasar, told Khaleej Times: 'Not a day goes by when we don't remember Rashid. Our lives have never been the same. We keep thinking of what could have been if someone had just been there to watch over him. Why was there no CCTV camera? A school is supposed to be like a second home, but it didn't take care of my child. This conviction brings some closure, but the pain remains. We lost a part of ourselves that day. ' The family had previously claimed Rashid was bullied and attacked during the missing seconds, a charge the school denied. Due to ongoing legal and administrative proceedings, the name of the school involved is being withheld.

After a year of waiting for ploughing incentives, padi farmers to finally get update next week

ALOR STAR: A year has passed since the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) announced ploughing and harvesting incentives worth RM210 per hectare for nearly 130,000 padi farmers across Peninsular Malaysia. Yet, the farmers are still waiting. Malaysian Padi Farmers Brotherhood Organisation (Pesawah) chairman, Abdul Rashid Yob, expressed frustration over the delay. "It has been a year since the ministry announced on 11 June 2024 that the government would disburse these incentives," he told the New Straits Times. "But to this day, we have received no updates from the ministry." The incentives were announced last year alongside a revision in the ploughing allowance, which was increased from RM100 to RM160 per hectare per season. Additionally, a new harvesting incentive of RM50 per hectare per season was introduced, bringing the total to RM210 per hectare under the government's support package. The announcement came following the launch of the targeted diesel subsidy initiative on 9 June 2024, aimed at curbing subsidy leakages and improving the nation's fiscal health. Rashid stressed that the incentives are crucial to alleviating the financial burden on farmers, particularly in light of rising machinery rental costs caused by higher diesel prices. "We urge the government to expedite the payout, especially for ploughing and harvesting, since diesel-powered machinery is central to both activities," he said. Farmers' advocacy group Gerakan Melawan Penindasan Petani (Gempita) coordinator, Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir echoed the call for prompt disbursement. "The cost of ploughing and harvesting has soared to between RM400 and RM600 per hectare. Without the promised incentives, farmers are left to shoulder these expenses themselves," he said. "They're already grappling with rising costs of fertiliser, pesticides, and labour." Meanwhile, KPKM in a statement this evening said the ministry will finalise the distribution mechanism next Monday. "With regard to the padi ploughing and harvesting incentives, KPKM will finalise the distribution mechanism during the upcoming meeting of the Cabinet Committee on National Food Security Policy (FSCC) this Monday. "It is stressed that all actions taken are based on engagement with industry players, service providers, and the farmers themselves. "Further information regarding these incentives will be shared soon," the ministry said in response to the New Straits Times. KPKM said it acknowledged the concerns raised regarding the provision of ploughing and harvesting incentives for padi farmers. "It must be emphasised that the Madani government always listens and takes seriously the welfare and interests of padi farmers. Various improvement measures have been implemented and are being formulated to ensure that all incentives are delivered to farmers in a fair, accurate, and effective manner.

'We've lived here for generations': Batla House residents worried as demolition looms

NEW DELHI: Inside the maze of congested bylanes of southeast Delhi's Batla House, families pack up their possessions as they prepare to leave the place they called home for decades now. 'We've lived here for generations. Now, they just paste a notice and expect us to disappear,' said 65-year-old Abdul Rashid, who has been living in the locality since 1980. The notice in question was issued by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on May 26, informing residents that Khasra number 279, on Muradi Road, belongs to authority, making all structures on the land unauthorised. Residents were given 15 days' notice to vacate the land with a demolition drive set to begin on June 11. A cloud of apprehension looms as hundreds of families in the area are living under threat of eviction. 'Most people who lived here on rent have already moved away. Among the homeowners, those who have the means have also shifted. But the rest of us don't have any other option. If the authorities actually do carry out the demolitions, we will be in ruin,' Rashid laments. The DDA notice excludes houses under the PM-UDAY scheme meant to regularise Delhi's unauthorised colonies, but many claim they were unfairly left out despite submitting the necessary paperwork. Faizan Quereshi, another local, shows electricity bills and a property tax receipt dating back to 1992. 'This is not an unauthorised settlement. It was regularised decades ago. We have documents, addresses, connections, all legal.' Residents are left to endure an uncertain future. 'My children have exams. My wife is unwell. We can't sleep at night with the notice hanging around our necks,' Parveen Akhtar, a resident of Khizar Baba Colony. said. 'We don't know if tomorrow the bulldozers will come.'
