Aamir Khan On Andaz Apna Apna 2 With Salman: 'Santoshi Is Writing, But Too Early To Confirm'

Aamir Khan has finally broken his silence on Andaz Apna Apna 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1994 cult classic that starred him alongside Salman Khan. While the buzz around a possible reunion has excited fans for years, Aamir has now clarified where things currently stand and it's far from confirmed. In a recent chat with Bollywood Hungama, Aamir said that director Rajkumar Santoshi is indeed working on the script, but the project is still in the very early stages. The actor emphasised that both he and Salman would only move ahead with the film once they're absolutely convinced by the story. 'I really believe that scripts have to come out organically. So Raj Santoshi is working on a version of Andaz Apna Apna 2, but it's too early for me to say that it's being made, because until the script is ready and both Salman and I don't love what he narrates and we say yes — until then, the film actually won't be greenlit," Aamir said. 'So right now, it's in very early stages. But let's all hope that he comes up with a good script. We're all hoping." Aamir had previously spoken about the sequel earlier this year. However, his comments were met with concern by the children of the late Vinay Kumar Sinha, who produced the original film. They clarified that Aamir was never a producer on the original and said they would not be selling the rights to either Aamir or Rajkumar Santoshi. They stated, 'Aamir was never a producer (of the film), he was just an actor. We will never sell the rights to him or Rajkumar Santoshi. Yes, Aamir said that Rajkumar Santoshi is writing Andaz Apna Apna 2, and we are very excited about it. But I do want to tell you that in our father's lifetime, for the longest time, Raj ji and Dad kept meeting and talking about a sequel." Meanwhile, Raveena Tandon, who was finalised as the lead, left the film after shooting for 10 days. Meenakshi Sheshadri was later cast in her place. Amrish Puri played Sunny Deol's father in the film.

'Andaz Apna Apna' re-release box office: The Salman Khan, Aamir Khan starrer collects Rs 10 lakh on Monday, expected to grow on Tuesday, day 5
Rajkumar Santoshi's ' Andaz Apna Apna ' has remained a cult over the years since the last few years, even though the film did average at the box office during its original release. It was the only time when Aamir Khan and Salman Khan shared screen space and since then, fans are waiting for both the Khans to re-unite as this union was such a cult. The film also starred Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon . Now that it has re-released, the film is holding up well at the box office despite the newer releases like 'Kesari 2', 'Ground Zero' amidst others. 'Andaz Apna Apna' earns Rs 1.25 crore in 4 days of re-release The film made Rs 25 lakh on day 1 and saw growth on day 2, thus minting Rs 30 lakh. The film also remained steady on Monday earning Rs 10 lakh according to Pinkvilla. Thus, the total collection so far, now stands at Rs 1.25 crore in the first four days of its theatrical run. The film had alreadys sold 5500 tickets in the top three national chains - Inox and Cinepolis, for the opening day. On day 5, which is Tuesday, some growth is expected as the ticket prices in PVR Inox chains is at a subsidized rate ranging from Rs 99 to Rs 149. This is due to the Tuesday movie offer, which facilitates cine-goers to buy tickets at subsidized rates. The ticket price ranges from Rs 99 to Rs 149 every Tuesday only in PVR Inox theaters. Original collection of the film When the film first released in 1994, it earned a lifetime net collection of Rs 5.15 crore in India, with a worldwide gross of Rs 7.59 crore. Considering it was nearly 30 years ago, these numbers are seen as decent today. However, at the time of its release, the film was considered a flop. Thus now, after adding the 4-day numbers of the movie, the total collection now stands at Rs 6.4 crore in India. 'Andaz Apna Apna' also starred Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Actor Paresh Rawal spoke about doing mainstream Bollywood films, often of a poor quality, with serious roles on the stage. A veteran actor on both the screen and in theatre, he said that he would view theatre as a space to 'detox' from all the 'dirt' that would accumulate on him from doing Hindi films. In an interview with The Lallantop, he was shown a picture of himself in David Dhawan's Hero No 1, which prompted him to make this analogy. Asked how he'd go from playing broad roles in films to doing serious roles on the stage, he said, 'Sometimes, I would go do a show after working on one of these movies. I am not a unique person, I can tell you that every theatre actor, when they set foot inside the premises of a theatre, an internal detox begins. All this 'mael (dirt) is rubbed off.' In an earlier interview with Radio Nasha, Paresh said that comic roles were a saviour for him, because he was stuck playing poorly written villains in films. ' Phir chahe woh Rajkumar Santoshi ho ya phir David Dhawan ho, woh log comedy ke scenes mein zyada cut nahi karte hai… single shot hi rakhte hai… jiss wajah se aapko theatre ki feel aati hai (Whether it's Rajkumar Santoshi or David Dhawan, they don't use too many cuts in comic scenes… they prefer single shots… which is why it feels like live theatre),' he said. Expressing his gratitude to Rajkumar Santoshi for hiring him in Andaz Apna Apna, he continued, ' Unn dino mein main toh bohot gatiya kism ke villain roles kar raha tha… so iss kism ka role milna… I'm forever grateful to Rajkumar Santoshi (Back then, I used to do some really terrible villainous roles… so getting a role like this… I'm forever grateful to Rajkumar Santoshi).' The film, starring Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, was re-released in cinemas on April 25.
