Aamir Khan On Andaz Apna Apna 2 With Salman: 'Santoshi Is Writing, But Too Early To Confirm'
Last Updated:
Aamir Khan says Rajkumar Santoshi is writing Andaz Apna Apna 2, but he and Salman will only return if they love the script. No greenlight yet.
Aamir Khan has finally broken his silence on Andaz Apna Apna 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1994 cult classic that starred him alongside Salman Khan. While the buzz around a possible reunion has excited fans for years, Aamir has now clarified where things currently stand and it's far from confirmed.
In a recent chat with Bollywood Hungama, Aamir said that director Rajkumar Santoshi is indeed working on the script, but the project is still in the very early stages. The actor emphasised that both he and Salman would only move ahead with the film once they're absolutely convinced by the story.
'I really believe that scripts have to come out organically. So Raj Santoshi is working on a version of Andaz Apna Apna 2, but it's too early for me to say that it's being made, because until the script is ready and both Salman and I don't love what he narrates and we say yes — until then, the film actually won't be greenlit," Aamir said. 'So right now, it's in very early stages. But let's all hope that he comes up with a good script. We're all hoping."
Aamir had previously spoken about the sequel earlier this year. However, his comments were met with concern by the children of the late Vinay Kumar Sinha, who produced the original film. They clarified that Aamir was never a producer on the original and said they would not be selling the rights to either Aamir or Rajkumar Santoshi.
They stated, 'Aamir was never a producer (of the film), he was just an actor. We will never sell the rights to him or Rajkumar Santoshi. Yes, Aamir said that Rajkumar Santoshi is writing Andaz Apna Apna 2, and we are very excited about it. But I do want to tell you that in our father's lifetime, for the longest time, Raj ji and Dad kept meeting and talking about a sequel."
Whether the sequel materialises or not, one thing's for sure: fans of the original continue to wait with bated breath for Amar and Prem to return to the big screen.

What Sitaare Zameen Par opened to a modest start at the box office. According to Sacnilk, the film collected an estimated Rs 11.5 crore on its first day. ‘Aamir Khan can take risks, nothing will change': Prosenjit Chatterjee on Sitaare Zameen Par's theatre-only release
Aamir Khan's decision to not release Sitaare Zameen Par on OTT platforms just eight weeks after it hit the theatre has garnered praise from Prosenjit Chatterjee. Speaking with India Today, Prosenjit said that Aamir "can take the risk" as he "understands the pulse and sensibilities of the audiences". However, he added that "nothing will change". (Also Read | Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection day 1) Prosenjit Chatterjee talked about Aamir Khan and Sitaare Zameen Par. Talking about Aamir's different approach, Prosenjit said, "He can take the risk. He has been serving the industry for many years, and he understands the pulse and sensibilities of the audiences." Prosenjit, however, thinks that this move of Aamir won't bring about any change. "To save the theatrical business and cinema, he (Aamir Khan) is a person who can think this way or take this kind of risk. Nothing will change, a film will come on OTT and then on satellite television. That's how it works, that's how we reach our Indian audiences. But let's see how this goes (Sitaare Zameen Par's only-cinema model), and I hope it works," added Prosenjit. What Aamir had said about Sitaare Zameen Par's release Recently, Aamir told India Today about exclusively releasing the film in theatres. 'I am a loyalist of cinema, and I believe in it. Yes, it's a big risk, and there's a lot [of money] involved. If I don't get that chunk of my pre-sales, and the film doesn't work, it could lead to a major loss. I did receive offers, but I turned them down because I want audiences to go to theatres and watch my film. I believe in cinema, and I believe in my audience," he added. As per trade analyst Komal Nahta, Aamir has turned down an offer of ₹ 120 crore from Amazon Prime Video for the digital rights of the film. Komal, writing for Film Information, said that Aamir has "decided to try and change the game" for films releasing in theatres. Komal said that Aamir wants people to experience the release of a film in theatres. About Sitaare Zameen Par A spiritual sequel to the 2007 hit film Taare Zameen Par, Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna, released in theatres on Friday. Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection Day 1: Aamir Khan's film barely gets a double digit opening as he tries to prove cinema supremacy, earns Rs 11.5 cr
Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection Day 1: Aamir Khan is back on the silver screen with his latest film Sitaare Zameen Par and while the makers have tried to push the film via its extensive round of promotions on social media, it seems like the results aren't what Aamir would have hoped for. The film had more than 9500 shows on its opening day and didn't have much competition in the theatres, but, despite that, it has only made Rs 11.5 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. Aamir has been promoting Sitaare Zameen Par by constantly reminding the audience that they won't get a chance to watch this film on a streaming platform in a few weeks' time, so this might be their only chance in the near future to watch the film. This was his way of pushing the theatrical business as he believes that the model of the movie business has suffered greatly since the pandemic because of the 8-week window that is followed by OTT platforms. It is yet to be seen if his bet will pay off as the film has received lukewarm reviews, and even the opening day collections aren't as big as he might have hoped. While the most advanced booking reports had pegged the movie to do under Rs 10 crore on its opening day, the 'spiritual sequel' of 2007's Taare Zameen Par has done better than that. The average occupancy rates across the Hindi shows were 21.34%, as the morning and afternoon shows achieved around 16% occupancy, while the evening and night shows did slightly better and saw 20.21% and 32.50% occupancy respectively. As per an advance booking report by Sacnilk, which mentioned the total number of shows organised and tickets sold, the average occupancy of the movie came out to just around 12 people in every theatre. ALSO READ: In Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan finally faces the man in the mirror, as he trades perfection for vulnerability Aamir's last film, 2022's Laal Singh Chaddha, which failed at the box office, had similar number of shows on its opening day and earned around Rs 11.7 crore. During its lifetime, the film made Rs 61.36 crore. Almost 18 years ago, Taare Zameen Par, which was also promoted in a similar vein, made Rs 63 crore during its run. It is interesting to note that even though both – Laal Singh Chaddha and Sittare Zameen Par – are remakes, the latter has a much smaller budget, and this time around, it's only Aamir who is doing all the heavy lifting as he is the only established star on the film's poster. After letting go of huge OTT deals and talking about bringing back the true theatre-watching experience, Aamir and the team will be hoping that this weekend goes better for them than it did the last few times. The cast of the RS Prasanna directorial also includes Genelia Deshmukh, Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain and Ashish Pendse, among others. The story has been penned by Divy Sidhi Sharma, and the film has been jointly produced by Aamir and Aparna Purohit. Music for the film has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and the lyrics have been written by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
